10 years ago, UNT was not in good football shape. That is just flat wrong. They weren't in any position to handle expansion. You didn't get banned because you spoke the "truth." Above is a great reason you got banned. You throw out highly charged opinions based on lies or very loose "facts." You constantly belly ache about the same topic, regardless of what the thread is about -- and you troll people into arguments about that same damn topic. For some peace and quiet, the admins showed you the door. Here you are, a year or so later, stil harping on the same exact topic and dragging people into your net.5 points

Eactly! The way it sounds from some lurkers, they have already surpassed us even BEFORE they have a program.2 points

yea dd only got the money from Mac to build the Athletic Center, the day you are talking about the autographs the AD dept did not post anything in the locker room about this event. All of the players showed up for all events that they were aware of.2 points

So much misinformation in this post, but lets just stick with the above. The defense in 07 returned 9 starters from a defense that was ranked in the high 80s the year before. Dodge promptly turned that into the worst defense in FBS football. No mention about the dismal special teams play for 4 STRAIGHT YEARS. So tired of people who accept losing.2 points

Move the "I'm Not Saying" thread into the Hall of Fame forum. We're 0-3 with it wallowing in UNT News Forum. Make the change and we win Saturday.1 point

That report is ridiculous. Whoever hired this fool should be questioned. I, as well as 75% of the members on this board, could have typed that piece of trash up and told you exactly what it said. Although I think most of us would be able to count to four: it first states that UNT has the 5th largest budget in the Sun Belt and goes on to say, a couple paragraphs later, that only three Sun Belt schools have budgets larger than ours and ends with a bar graph that shows that we are fourth in the Sun Belt. I'm positive that everything in the report has been discussed on this board within the last six months. I'm thankful that I received free tuition to this school. I would be very disappointed if I paid for a joker to type up a ridiculously freshman level report that included everything we had already known. Our hope is slipping away.1 point

Mr. Neinas: "Uh, you should think about starting a baseball program." Rick V.: "That's a great idea! We've actually had it in our plans for quite a while, but just don't have the funds yet." Mr. Neinas: "Your stadium is going to be pretty nice! You should highlight it by budgeting some money towards advertising for it." Rick V.: "Thanks! That's a good idea." Mr. Neinas: "That'll be $100,000 please." Rick V.: "Wow! Thanks for everything Mr. Neinas, would you like to come over for dinner? My wife is cooking her signature Lasagna." Mr. Neinas: "No. I really gotta go. The University of Texas-San Antonio is anxious for my services. Fare thee well."1 point

Her UNT is on a tight budget as it is and they paid this guy to write something the average Tom, Dick, and Harry already know this? Wow.1 point

How bad of a season are you having when you are forced into conference realignment talk before kickoff of the 4th game?1 point

And how much do you donated to the Scrappynator? Have you joined the Scrappynator club? Have you told your family and friends to be a part of this Scrappynator? If you do that then great things will happen to this Scrappynator!!1 point

I was thinking about the scrimmage that was done along with the item collection for Katrina relief in 2005 - I think it was the Saturday that we were supposed to have the game at LSU, but it got postponed because of the hurricane. It may have been a few days later, but that's immaterial. There were signs up everywhere on campus advertising that there would be a scrimmage, and the players would be available for autographs for those who brought donation items. I was working on campus and going to grad school at the time, so I saw the posters myself. My husband and I were standing on the alumni side after the scrimmage, looking for a few autographs. I saw a few of the players start to head over, and Dickey called them all back and told them to head to the locker room. I'm not suggesting that the players weren't willing to sign autographs. Based on my outsider observations and what I knew of the advertising, it appeared to me that the players knew about the event, but were kept from signing autographs. Maybe I misinterpreted what the players knew, but I know I didn't misinterpret the look RV gave Dickey, and the look he returned after the scrimmage.1 point

I give credit to the new coach for winning. Dodge is not a recruiting coordinator. He's a head coach. He is judged on wins. I was one that was really pulling for Dodge at the start of the season. I like him. I think he's represents the school well. But in my opinion, two big things hurt him. He held on to his HS assistants too long and he still can't get his team prepared to play. Second play vs Clemson, 60 yd TD run. First play vs Rice, 70 yd TD pass. First series vs Army, 3 and out, shank a punt, short field and Army goes down and has a 7-0 lead 4 minutes in. Same story over and over. Injuries or no injuries, we get ourselves out of the game before injuries have a chance to happen. The team looks unprepared at the opening kickoff every game. You have to put that on the coach.1 point

Todge Rodge, I have been trying to determine if you are a fan of our football team or not. Most of what you post are counterpoints to everyone here, and to a great extent - factual. I will pull out the, "who are you a fan of?" flag, because I really can't tell. UNT has done some truly stupid things over the years with athletics. But it doesn't seem like you come out and support anything they do one way or the other. Everything you posted in this thread was, "Yea, the WAC sucks and yea, CUSA isn't going to come calling and Sun Belt isn't great either. I don't know if you are a defeated fan, not a fan, or just defeated. It's more of a woe is UNT attitude.1 point

ee, you and I have agreed most always, but I'm with Green Dozer on this one. Darn It! Life Is Just Not Fair! I don't like the fact that TDodge (who I was one of many, many, many on this board who thought him with potential to do it at UNT), and the timing of his hiring has really given the guy (best I can count) only 2 Spring/Winter recruiting years (of which this includes the early signing period); but the "W's have yet to arrive. How many other 1'st year coaches make big splashes expecially in leagues like the SBC? AND.......TDodge could still pull this sucker out but time is drawing nigh where it likely might not happen BUT IF IT DOES...many of us will have that Sylvestor the Cat look on our faces but will still congratulate the coach and his staff for a miracle of very big proportion and job well done. We have a new era on our Mean Green horizon that will for the first time in my lifetime give us a chance to really compete with a (hopeful) Big Time Coach coupled with a Big Time Stadium--a first for all of us in fact. If we were to have another year at Fouts Field then maybe allow Coach Dodge even a 5 win season but that will not be the case. Since we of GMG.com don't have a very good record of HFC selecting at UNT, I will defer to our non-stop AD Rick V. IMHO, Rick V will be smart enough to consult with our interim UNT prez' who is very pro athletics and Chuck Neinas for what will turn into a short list of candidates. Meanwhile, we will all speculate on GMG.com and that is probably why so damn many of us are hooked on this forum because we want to know what others are saying or thinking--and from all eras, too--not just the Hayden Fry era. Like GrayEagle has posted "this time we go for the name coach" and I wholeheartedly concur with that since when I was a student at UNT that is what we actually did in December of 1972. And dammit--for the life of me, I can't get that era and what I witnessed firsthand out of my mind no matter how hard I try and no matter how some on this board have tried to downplay the success, revise its history and barometer-setting of that era; an era of which whose obvious success was recognized more outside Denton than inside Denton because look what we got when Fry left for the Big 10? In that era's place were the setting of lower goals and most times lower goals are much easier to reach; hence our stay in the Bottom 25 and Bottom 10 polls too many times the last 10 or so years. I wouldn't want anything but a proven name, Blinn is a Junior College. So no to Brad unless he is an assistant coach of some kind. I don't like his Dad either, and I think his reputation in Texas is shot.1 point

Perfect! Every once in a while I could begin to understand Todge Rodge only to be led back to ranting and raving similar to Baghdad Bob. I'm still trying to figure out who was more factual.1 point

Look...he ain't going back to high school. The guy has something in the bag. But, there have been many coaches who were great position coaches or coordinators who couldn't run the whole show. Running the whole show at this level is a completely different ball of wax. Dodge just can't do it. It sucks for us that our school had to be the proving ground, but I can't think of a regional school that wouldn't hire him. In fact, I'll go ahead and predict that if Dodge is fired, he'll have a job as someone's QB coach, WR coach, or offensive coordinator/co-coordinator/pass game coordinator at a BCS school. There's no shame in not being able to do the whole thing. As shown in several threads after the Army loss, there a dozens of former head coaches now assisting at FBS schools or in the NFL. Listen, being the boss is hard. At this level, it's completely different. Like, different planet different. Think about it: the guy walked away from a high school where the parents policed their kids and they were respectful. College football is different. There are so many different backgrounds and experiences in a locker room. You've got to earn the trust of those guys. They don't go for top down-type of authority. Anyone catch the comments of Bob Stoops or Mack Brown recently. Neither are thrilled with some of their schools' recently performances (yes, I know we'd trade for them...but, their level is different). Both have hammered home the fact that they've got kids on their roster who aren't working hard enough and aren't listening...and it shows up on the field. For what is expected of those squads, they've struggled against teams they'd normally blow out early. Keeping the trust and attention of a college locker room is very difficult. Dodge just couldn't do it. It's not that the players don't like him. It's just that, after being sent into battle so many times with a losing plan, carrying it out becomes burdensome. At some point, guys just think to themselves, 'Screw it. I ain't putting it all on the line anymore. There'll be someone new next year anyway.'1 point

I wished I could attend this report because I don't want to miss what will surely be a comment something similar to the Stallings on Trilli shot. Anyone remember how that went? Something to the tune of, and I paraphrase.... ......."and then I look up and here we are losing at home to a DII program that doesn't even give out scholarships????? You can't have that happen folks and expect to improve your athletic program?".... Funniest yet most tense moment I ever remember for a public forum. Rick1 point

I think with this athletic department it's the other way around - if the head coach is having health issues and losing, you fire the coach...even if he's taken to bowl games, won conference championships, etc. With Dodge, the player injuries are simply another excuse for keeping him around for another year. See the difference? The guy who has put a winning product on the field in the past gets sick, and he's out. The guy who has never fielded a winner, then has a season where many players are injured, gets to stay. This is how great programs are built. You have to completely ignore the lack of depth created by questionable recruiting, and exposed by the injuries, to really have a good understanding of why Dodge should be allowed to stay.1 point

fausports.tv doesn't list any live events. It looks like a front for CBS College Sports and they don't list the game on Saturday either. The Mean Green premium doesn't have it.. Looks like we are blacked out. My apologies to John Wiley Price for my language.1 point

Definitely a positive of the day!! Tailgating could not have been better yesterday, just perfect weather for being in the parking lot. We had a great crowd show up I lost count of how many made our tailgating. Probably about 60-80 just crazy. Special thanks to UNTFlyer for joining us and sharing his TV. The food was pretty damn good, one of our guys John, He brought out 4 deep cell batteries, a huge inverter to power he his sandwich press, I knew he was bringing that, what I did not know was he decided to bring his full size light commercial 3/4 horse power meat slicer as well. The Cuban Sandwiches were simply incredible, he had smoked and slow roasted his pork loin, keep it in a cooler (dedicated to hot to keep the natural warmth from cooking) wrapped in foil then he ran the pork loin and the ham through the slicer for paper thin slices. He assembled these bad-boys with all the other goodies, buttered the French bread, and then placed them in the his handy dandy sandwich press until they were about a 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch thick. Best I have ever had! He wins the award in my group hands down. ****Super Bonus**** :THE TOMATO: Ski (Mike) stopped by and then he brought several Stuffed pizzas to the tailgate. I think it has been nearly 4 years since I had a slice of The Tomato stuffed pizza, I love those things. John Denver how did your chili cook-off go?1 point
