Dear Mean Green Family, I urge everyone to fly the American Flag Saturday at our Tailgate Parties. Let's never forget the meaning that 9-11 will have on our Nation. It is also a grand time to honor OUR first responsders like FireFightinRick, Emmitt, FireFightingJoey and all the others that help keep our city, state and Country Safe. Let's make it happen Mean Green Family! ParksAndRecRick "Mean Green's Biggest Homer"---Brett Vito7 points

No...I love legit information...I don't like an SMU fan who happens to go to church with an assistant coach or who's son is a ball-boy or who's daughter is bangin' Coach Doh on the side thinking he's getting real inside information and that SMU is "leading" in the recruiting process for top area kids when that school hasn't had a winning season since 2002-03, their coach will probably be out the door after another losing season and when Doherty has signed exactly 1 Texas freshman in his past 4 (including 2011) recruiting classes...and that kid was from Houston. So, if the shit you're throwing up against a wall sticks, congrats on a really solid recruiting class...but I'll wait for it to happen. I, like the rest of the posters here, will just be concerned with the kids coming to Denton and what UNT has to offer up against the legitimate programs, like Creighton, who also happen to offer. Plus, once York signs elsewhere, you can justify it by saying SMU never offered and that he's not C-USA material.6 points

Galbreath may like the younger ladies. Scrappy used to wear #5 too. True story - was at a gentleman's club in the 2000's and this lady who was dancing told me she used to be the UNT mascot. I looked up her name and sure enough, it was true. I never returned, it hurt my head to pay Scrappy $20 to dance.5 points

I, for one, never made a mistake in college. It is absolutely impossible for me to get caught up in the moment. Especially when bringing us within a TD of 75K Clemson fans. Kids have no more excuses these days to not be perfect, what with the world wide web, Twitter and Dora the Explorer.3 points

i'd feel like most in the dfw area/alums all over who seem apathetic are just looking for a reason to come back. it takes winning in football, doing more than just getting to the tournament in basketball, and things in the academic realm. this may seem unfathomable to us on the board- but why would a casual fan want to be associated with a team that gets blown out by 30,40, 50, even 69 points a game????2 points

He was showing emotion. The ref was giddy about throwing the yellow flag on Darius. Boise State scored the game winning touchdown and they all went nuts also...but the ref didn't call it because these are young kids that are super happy and flying high in the moment. You can call it selfish but that was true emotion. And I am glad they had that because they are all probably beaten down and frustrated from the last 3 years of constant losing and ass whippings they have received.2 points

But to SWB's point. They FELT like they ran up the score. Of course the coach said that after the game. But even if he called off the dogs after the 3rd quarter, I'm sure the players weren't asking our players about their majors and what their favorite movie is. That would lead one to FEEL like they ran up the score.2 points

Plus you don't know what was being said on the field after scoring 77. I'm sure the Rice players weren't saying, "gosh guys, this has gotten out of hand, we feel terrible."2 points

I thought his schemes kept the Clemson defense guessing. Coach Dodge did a great job finding Coach Canales and getting him aboard.2 points

I want to say something about Savod Atkinson and you will either agree with me or disagree with me: He looks better than he did last year. Now, I'm going to say something else about Shavod Atkinson and you will either agree with me or disagree with me again: He is playing well enough to be a First Team All-Sun Belt performer, and probably Third Team AP All-American since they are too cowardly to give players from our school First or Second Team consideration. Now, I'm going to say yet another thing about Shavod Atkinson and you will either agree with me or disagree with yet again: Rice will be sorry they ever heard the name Shavod Atkinson because it will echo in the heads of their quarterbacks, running backs, fullbacks, tight ends, wide receivers, guards, tackles, centers, kickers, punters, defensive tackles, defensive ends, outside linebackers, inside linebackers, middle linebackers, cornerbacks, free safeties, strong safeties, deep snappers, holders, head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, special teams coordinator, wide receivers coach, running backs coach, linebackers coach, run game coordinator, tight ends coach, offensive tackles coach, offensive line coach, cornerbacks coach, defensive graduate assistant, offensive graduate assistant, trainers, water boys, cheerleaders (male and female), athletic director, assistant athletic director, executive assistant to the athletic director, senior associate athletic director/senior woman administrator, senior exective athletic director, associate athletic director for development, associate athletic director for sports administration/support services, associate athletic director of finance, assistant athletic director for student athlete development, assistant athletic director for facilities and operations, assistant athletic director for compliance, assistant athletic director for marketing and ticket sales, assistant athletic director for team giving and special projects, assistant athletic director for ticketing operations, assistant athletic director for football operations, assistant athletic director for media relations, assistant athletic director for equipment, general manager of Rice Sports Properties, account executive of Rice Sports Properties, associate director of academic advising for athletics, assistant director of academic advising for athletics, athletic academic advising coordinators, marketing director, coordinator of strength and conditioning, assistant ticket manager, "R" Association executive director, video coordinator, data coordinator for development, assistant athletic trainer, video specialist, asssistant equipment manager, staff assistants for football, director of facilities and events, events specialist for football, compliance coordinator, football video coordinator, marketing coordinator, accounting assistant, President David W. I'm sick of this conversation...especially when it comes to Thompson and the talk of red-shirting him this season as some sort of penance for Dodge's playing him last season. Thompson is our back-up quarterback and was neck and neck with Tune to be the starter this season...he needs to be game ready and of the mindset that I'm the next guy on the field should Tune go down. Especially considering the other 2 options are walk-ons. Thinking that you'd red-shirt one of two scholarship QBs on your roster is ridiculous. This team doesn't have the luxury of red-shirting anybody who can contribute this season...not just for Dodge's job, but for this football team to have a successful season. If Orr beat out Prior behind Penson at MLB...play Orr. If Abbe needs to contribute on the DL this season...play Abbe. If Wright is one of the best 10 on kick coverage...play Wright. Best players need to play now...start winning and we'll be recruiting better players for the 2013 season, which everyone seems so concerned we won't have a QB for now that Thompson played Saturday.1 point

And if the Mrs. says anything, give her a little dose of that same medicine. For the younger members of the forum... If you're looking for Mrs. Right (or, let's all be honest, Mrs. Likely-to-stay-hot-enough-and-also-good-at-cooking-and-ironing-and-knows-to-shut-up-when-something-good-is-on-TV), you need to find out the answer to the two most important questions for a strong, long term relationship: 1) Can she take a punch? 2) Can she keep a secret? If the answer to both questions is yes, you'll be able to work through any of the inevitable problems or disagreements that pop up in every relationship. If not, there may be trouble on the horizon. If she's got a glass jaw, then you'll inevitably have emergency room people asking how she fell down stairs in your one story house. And if she can't keep a secret... Well, that's just not a good situation at all.1 point

Am I to assume you do nothing special on your anniversary, Christmas or Easter? These too are things that could be "celebrated every day." Things are celebrated more heavily on select days because it gives everyone a chance, and reminder, to remember certain events as a whole.1 point

i go back and forth on these types of remembrances. why must we only do something to mark the occasion of something terrible/great(america's response)? why can't we always fly the flag that we are proud of? to me, flying or doing something on one day a year doesn't mean much. if it was that important of an event, the dedication/remembrance would go on everyday.1 point

You could just hit the kid for each time he hit the TP roll. That should teach him and you could still enjoy your TP in the way God intended.1 point

I'm glad some of you think that our program has made such great strides in the last year that we can afford giving away TD's to our opponents over stupid grandstanding. I don't care how much our fans or their fans thought the call was BS, it ended up being a MOMENTUM KILLER. Mr. Carey can grandstand when we are 21+ points ahead and there is 5 min. left in the game. Otherwise, this is what I think of his momentum killing stunt.1 point

North Texas is easy to read about 12" down from helmet, the NORTH TEXAS that goes across the front of the jersey. Do we really need to have it in two places? Thursday night when MTSU was playing Minnesota, they had MT on their helmets, I doubt anybody watching didn't see Middle Tennesse up in the corner of the screen with the score and Middle Tennessee on their jerseys. Who cares what RV wants or likes, is he an alum of NT? Shouldn't it be more about what the paying alum, coaches and players want?1 point

Yes, we lost. Yes, it sucks. I still say, having seen it live, we haven't "shown up" for a money game like this since 2002 at Texas. Sure, some will nitpick this game to death...and wrongly so. We moved the ball. We scored against the first team D. We gave up 4" and about 40 lbs on both lines...yet we fought until the final whistle. These things didn't happen in recent years. Lance went for 100 plus. Rice is in trouble next Saturday. I believe it, it's time you did too. 8 wins.1 point

Again, a redshirt is not something you have to declare before the start of the year. If Thompson didn't have to play this year, he would have been eligible for a redshirt. If Tune goes down, Thompson is your immediate replacement, no question. But why do this in the closing minutes of a blowout loss, unless you knew for a fact something was in store for Thompson later in the year. Think of it this way. Let's say Tune stays healthy the entire year ( a distinct possibility with a seasoned O-line) and the rest of our games all are one possession games in the fourth Quarter (a very good possibility with the exception of Kansas St and possibly Troy). If Tune is truely your #1 starter the rest of the season, Thompson never gets back out on the field, and you have wasted 2 years of eligibility for 6 passes. Right now, we have nothing of substance behind Thompson at QB. We know that Thompson's Spring and Fall equalled Tune's, and that Tune was chosen for his experience. We know that Coach Dodge needs to win 7 games, and if he doesn't, the new coach will face a tough 1st recruiting year. You know that in the only meaningful minutes Thompson has played, he outperformed what even the most optimistic (KRAM ) poster on this board would have expected. Thompson could have been both your #2 QB and a redshirt at the end of the year if Tune stayed healthy. The 2 are not mutually exclusive.1 point

Odds makers think these teams are even since NT gets the "within a FG" nod at home. I haven't capped games in a couple of years, but I would stay away from the side on this and strictly bet on a total. This game is really hard to call, IMO.1 point

If this team fails to win 6 games, why would you keep Canales?????? It's only the first game, does anyone remember what happened to Ball St. last year???????? Rice can't get here soon enough, jeez.1 point

I couldn't agree with you more. I bitched the rest of the game about that game changer. The thing that really chaps me is that the act could barely be seen. On one or two of Clemson's touchdowns most of the team went into the end zone to celebrate and nothing is called in the way of excessive celebration.1 point

Tune had a good 1st half & bad 2nd half. D & Special Teams were the usual suspect. Still lots of questions until AFTER the rice game, IMO. 1 down 5 to go!!!!1 point

Canales is a huge upgrade from what we've seen at that coaching spot for the last 3 seasons. Let's hope his impact is as big as many people appear to think it will be. Hell, he's about to walk on water according to most GMG posters...........1 point
