  1. I wish this thought would just die. I would be so much angrier if Dodge admitted that he intentionally did not put the best available QB in to save a redshirt. It's all about WINNING. You put the best options on the field. 10 games or 60 seconds. If you have a chance to win the game (and we did), try your hardest to win it. Dodge did. Thompson did. There's nothing wrong there. Dodge down. Tune down. Baine didn't travel. Thompson is next in line. Yes, Hamilton, Carey, etc... played QB in high school, but they were not the ones Dodge chose to use in order to win the game. Is it unfortunate that his redshirt was burned with only a few plays? Absolutely. Was it the right choice? Absolutley! Ask Thompson himself. I don't think there would be a QB competition (which made both of them better IMO) this offseason if Thompson did not play those minutes in Jonesboro.

  2. The reasons for Thompson playing against Arkansas State are well documented and far from self-serving.

  3. Congrats to Tune, and Thompson you will be a great starter next year.

  4. Congratulations to Nathan Tune and family. This is good news and good to get it behind the team as they prepare for Clemson. We are so very lucky to have both Tune and Thompson (and our other QB's for that matter as well) to lead the team into the season. I feel very confident in the QB's this season and it will only help to have Riley able to play a snap or two each game to keep the defenses on their toes. Can you imagine what defensive coordinators on opposing teams will have to game plan for now that they did not have to worry about a season ago? I can't wait for the season to start. I am 100% convinced that the Mean Green faithful will see a very new and improved Mean Green hit the field at Clemson on Sept. 4th. GO MEAN GREEN. Time to strap on the helmets and tee it off!

  5. Yeah, well... The Soviet Union was pretty intimidating back in the 60's and 80's, too. At least the godless commies are self-aware enough not to run around screaming "scoreboard" in the here-and-now. As for that national championship from 30 years ago... Congrats. I wish we had one in football. Lafayette College has three, but I don't exactly think it makes them relevant today. And I'd dig those 13 conference championships more if they hadn't all come before most Clemson undergrads were born. You wanna impress us? When's the last time you people beat Western Kentucky? Huh? Yeah, that's what I thought. Point- NORTH TEXAS.

  9. No, we didn't have a chance to win down two scores with about a minute left. It was a meaningless game and statistically the odds were stacked agains us to actually make such a comeback anyway. The only reason I don't care about the Thompson thing anymore is because he publicly said it was something he wanted to do. So that was enough for me. However, the argument that you stated doesn't fly for me.

  10. Grammar, people! If it meant both of those schools were leaving, it would be "except Louisiana Tech and Boise State, which have already given notice of their withdrawl)".

  13. Nathan is our quarterback. We're not going to win or lose solely because of him. We're going to win or lose with him.

  14. I hope Tune plays the entire Clemson game and is not pulled out at the half when we are up by 21.

  15. @Tasty I've been there. No idea where that second pic is from, but that's not Magness. Not saying it's a bad place to catch a game, not by a long stretch. However, I prefer the SP because it's built for basketball whereas Magness is built for hockey. Edit: looks like your second pic is the Kohl Center at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

  16. Glad to see the quarterback decision is over. I hope Tune has a great season, but also feel confident that Thompson can come in and take the reigns if need be. Seems to me like both young men have proven themselves with flashes of greatness during the pre-season. I think the important thing is to SUPPORT WHOEVER our starting QB is. Can't wait for the season opener next week! Go Mean Green!!!

  19. What I love is that in the grand scheme this poll is irrelevant. Irrelevant in that, regardless of who starts, we have the best 1-2 lineup in our leage by a decent margin.

  20. Look at the past and you'll see Meager got the nod over Vizza in a like situation. To start Thompson in "Death Valley" could ruin him emotionally for the rest of the year. Tune took the pounding last year from the best teams on the schedule (Troy & AL). Thompson is not ready to handle this kind of atmosphere. It's Nathan's job to lose.

  22. You guys are a piece of work...you even complain about a fellow member of the Mean Green Nation trying to do a favor for another member. I am sure that my offering to help will spell the doom of the Denton-Record Chronicle. I suspose both of you guys subscribe to the paper on a daily basis like I do and have done for over 30 years? Good grief. You are really reaching with this one.

  23. Addendum: I think the scheduling of the University of Houston Cougars for the Grand Opening of our stadium was an act of genius by Rick V. Why? Instead of us getting just a "blurb" in the Houston Chronicle if it had been any other school, we will get a full write-up of our game for all down there to read with many of the Greater Houston population (including HS coaches & potential recruits) will be finding out for the first time about our new football palace. We can't pay for that kind of publicity we rarely get on the golden Gulf Coast of Texas.

  25. I thought we were talking about the modern ACC, but hey, congrats everything before 1992 and for tying TCU, BYU and Texas A&M in national championships. I like Texas A&M as a comp for you guys: same middling results, same old high point of success (although 1981 trumps 1939 any day) and huge delusions of grandeur in the grand scheme of college football. Your role is to decide if you'd like to go 3-5, 4-4 and 5-3 in conference. Our role is to make sure you still get to 6-8 wins. Don't get me wrong, we'd love to flip places, but outside of playful banter, you won't see us waving our junk around if we get there. Besides, we all know our real job is to soften you up for Presbyterian to finish the job next week.

  29. I think our programs ate in simmilar ( not same) situations. You guys want to be seen as a 1st rate FBS program. We want to be FBS. Do like you guys any time I get to share what's realy going on here at TXST I will. Hope to have UNT over regularly once we get to FBS. Then we can help fill each others stadiums. As for breaking ground on our stadium it's already in progress. Our South EndZone complex was completed in 2004 our new suites and club seats were completed in 2009. Our North Endzone will start as soon as this season is over. Funds are already in place and contractors are in negotiations.

  30. So my memory is fading. Someone please refresh me. In the last 5 years how many QB's have we lost to injury when playing one of our opportunity games (formerly known as body bag or pay day games.)? And BTW - isn't our O-line suppose to be a major strength of our team? Thanks for believing in those guys and their ability to protect the QB.

  31. Deep thought #1: "You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea."

  32. Agree. And +1. I love that once we start digging a hole, we're suddenly pricks to everyone else under the sun. "Look at their track! It's almost as destructive to distance and ambiance as the one in the stadium we still play in..."

  33. What's the point in knocking TSU-SM down. Their conceptual drawings are great and I really like their current endzone facility. Just a couple of years ago we were touting our conceptual drawings at anyone that would listen. I think they will have a more difficult time moving their project forward than we have, but I wish them well in their efforts.

  37. Sweet. Smack talk from the 6th or 7th most relevant school in the Carolinas! If we couldn't open the season against North Carolina, Duke, South Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, or the Citadel... At least we could open it against Clemson. Welcome to the board, and congrats on getting to waggle your dongs at someone besides ECU or SC-Upstate for a change. But we'd be a lot more inclined to listen to team color smack talk from a school that doesn't look like Prince wearing a hunting vest. OREGON FANS want to vomit when they look at your uniforms, for crying out loud. And you Clemson fans obviously don't know jack about football. Or you'd realize our kicking game sucks. Only a moron would predict us to kick a successful field goal at this point in fall practice.

  38. Is Lauren Bowden still hanging around campus? If so, where would be a good spot to track her down? UNT is also trying to reach Tier 1 status on U.S. News and World Report's college ranking system...any advice on how to improve our rating? If I wanted to throw an Antebellum themed costume party the night before the game with my guests dressed as their favorite actors from the period, you know, George Washington Dixon, Thomas D. Rice, Daddy Jim Crow...that'd be cool, right? Or has it been done? Maybe wait until next MLK Day? I am also a life long Tiger fan. "GoMeanGreen" sent us an invitation. I agree with everything pete had to say. Those of you who are traveling to the game should have a nice time given TigerTown's spirited reputation. As for the "riddles of CBL": 1) "She's married" 2) The answer is an ancient, well preserved, ACC secret: *whispers* you have to occasionally beat Duke in basketball during the regular season, or demoralize them in football every year. 3) Not my cup of tea, but I would suggest asking that local 'genius' who gave Vince Young the "horns down" in Dallas last spring. *LOL* As for the teabags of Quoner... well it's not suggested, as my name kind of specifies why.

  43. I'm fine with throwing Tune to the supposed wolves at Clemson, but it needs to be someone else for the majority of the season. What I fear the most is wasting Dunbar's senior season, not to mention stadium opening momentum, breaking in another new starter.

  44. One minor element of either the offense or defense (usually the O-line) 'graded out' at ____, which is grounds for optimism. We've got a really young team, and they're still learning how to deal with that adversity. There's still a lot of time left in the season. Plenty of time for us to reach most of our really important goals. I think a lot of folks may not realize the level of football that's played in our conference these days. (Insert team other than Western Kentucky) is a pretty good little team, and (insert coach other than Dave Ellson) is doing some nice things over there. No matter what happened on the field last Saturday, our boys never stopped fighting, and I'm so proud of them for that. A lot of people may just look at the final, and not realize that with (insert length of time in the game) left, we were still hanging in there with a chance to win the thing. I tell my men that you can't control luck, all you can do is prepare for the things that you CAN control. This was another one where if we'd just had 1 or 2/3/4/5 plays go our way, the final result would have been in our favor. I think if you look at the effort and the performance by our guys, we deserved to win this game. Unfortunately, that's true of both teams. This was a tough one between two very hungry teams, and we just didn't catch the breaks we needed to make the difference. Am I happy that this one went in the loss column? No, I'm not. Nobody wants to win more than I do, unless maybe it's the men who are on this journey with me. But we're going to stick together and keep fighting, and I believe that it's going to turn around for us. There are still ___ games left, and I think we can show the kind of results we want, the kind of results our fans are wanting. I'll tell you one thing- whatever the final results are at the end of a game, I know what's in the hearts of those boys out there. Win or lose, I'm proud to be taking this journey with them, and I know that the struggles and the fight we're going through today are going to make all of them BETTER HUSBANDS AND FATHERS SOMEDAY. ------------ There, that's pretty much everything I've ever heard in three years of listening to Todd Dodge Radio Shows. Anyone who can't make it out in person this season or who may not have the chance to listen live on the radio... I'd be happy to do all of those in my best Todd Dodge impression on a telephone voicemail so they can enjoy a Todd Dodge Radio Show any time that's convenient.

  45. Considering the precarious position many newspapers are in...and considering Quoner's media savvy...I don't think its much of a reach.

  46. I wish the Tune the best of course. But I'll feel bad for Thompson if he sits out a good chunk of the season only to play a game or two and then has burn yet another year of edibility for minimal play time. I think Dodge playing him last season for a few minutes in that one game was atrocious and self-serving.
