Great Start for Mean Green Soccer. Kelsey Hodges netted a hat trick in the first game of her career (two break aways and a very impressive header off a corner in the second half). Overall Great game. Two goals were rockets from outside of the 18-yard box. I believe one was Julie Lackey, and the other Shannon Gorrie. Mean Green Sports Article4 points

It's being investigated by the MUTS athletic department and PD. That's like when Austin PD and UT investigate a Longhorn. It will be handled, as Mack likes to say, "in the family."3 points

I think this kid was really climbing the charts so to speak. He was listed as one of the top performers at the Dallas Showtyme Classic...(along with Jordan Williams and about 12 others). Anyway, that tourney had a "Who's Who" of area and state top prospects. Also from what I read...he averaged 14ppg and 5 apg last year. I think this is another great pickup. And if he signs and Williams signs (in November)....two Metroplex players that us area folks can go see play this season. Here's a link to where I found this info. The ppg and apg were on the Google page that lead to this: http://www.dfwbasketballnews.com/ (if you look at that Prospect photo gallery---Norris is the 6th one pictured)2 points

Beats,me, why would CUSA add a school in Ruston, Bowling Green, or Murfreesboro? Well in as much as the DFW metroplex has a larger population than some states, maybe one private school is not enough. I may be wrong but aren't Houston and Rice both in Houston?2 points

I hear ya about the two most important ingredients in selecting realignment teams. I would add a third in which we are also currently deficient, success on the field/attendance. As to power, none of our competition is dripping with it. We are fortunate to have Lane Rawlins at this time. There are few men available with his NCAA credentials. Also, his hiring of Chuck Neinas, one of the more respected men in college sports won't hurt our political clout either. If they can't do it then we deserve to stay where we are. It's also true that we don't have money but we are about to add a good deal to that thanks to our students. Our competition is not exactly rolling in dough either. Beginning next year, we could be at or near the top in total revenue among the major competitors for a vacant conference spot. The third factor that we are fighting is more serious. We have been non-competitive in football for the past five years. If we had success during that time, as we did in the first half of the decade, then I believe we'd stand at the top of the list. What we are going to have to sell is potential. In spite of five losing seasons, our attendance has been on par with our competition. We appear to be on the verge of really turning this program around. Maybe enough of the presidents that will decide new members will be able to see that. I've been around this program for more than sixty years and if anyone should be pessimistic about our chances it should be me. I've seen us never try so many times and fail a few times as well but this time I sense something different from our other efforts. There is a spirit now that hasn't existed before to make this effort a success. We haven't begun to reach our potential yet but at least an increasing sized group is trying. With our size and location we should be the leading candidate.2 points

Remember a couple days ago when we had all that good Mean Green football talk in the Mean Green football forum? Those were good times. What if we moved all the realignment crud to the hobbit forum?2 points

If four years in, you still have yet to master the PAT and are in a "might as well go for it" mode, then yeah, it's on the coaches. As are most of the deficiencies we've seen minimal improvement in in a three year period. I don't understand how Chancellor redshirts with all the issues at WR, especially in such a critical season for this staff. Then again, it's the same head coach who said re: Carey “We hope to get him back for the first game [at Clemson], but definitely I want to get him back for Rice and Army", so who the heck knows what the end goal is. Maybe we'll just roll out the Eagle Angels at WR at Clemson, take our 7 TD beating, and get ready for Rice. Hopefully Jackson and Stradford are just dinged and won't miss time, unless the Clemson sandbagging claims them. Sounds like the biggest positive was the defensive speed... I hope that translates, particularly in the "giving up the big play" arena....1 point

Or BM's...made him a great roommate in Mobile. This may not be the star-power of Williams, but it seems as though he's rising quickly...and if he actually has been offered by those programs this is a nice win for JJ. Now if we can steal one of those A&M commits...that'd really send a message.1 point
-
That's interest, not offers, but still... Another nice pickup. Still a lot of time left before November and early signing. Things are moving along nicely. Very nicely. But, the question remains- Is he a PURE "1"? Scouts' honor, no foolin'? I can only await the evaluation.1 point

At this point, the only change NT will be involved in probably includes absorbing schools from a dead WAC conference. CUSA will look for universities in other TV markets outside of Texas. Maybe if SMU went to the MWC, CUSA might consider us for DFW coverage. Ain't happening........1 point
-
This is why I have always been against the "we'll wait and see what happens" method. Schools in CUSA, MWC, and in some cases the WAC really don't have much to worry because conference wise they are better off than the SBC. CUSA already has plenty of Texas schools...adding NT just based on potential probably wouldn't do much for most of the CUSA brass. Why wouldn't they consider MT, NMSU, Troy before us? Heck right now I would say just because we are in Texas....CUSA would consider just about anybody else but us even with our committment to athletics the last few years. I just have a feeling that all of this is going to backfire on RV and NT athletics. I hope I am dead wrong but I just sense it.1 point

Why would CUSA add another Texas school?? Why would CUSA add another Texas school from the DFW area??61 point

With the way the WAC is collapsing, Benson should just try to merge the WAC with UNT, MT, ASU, ULL, and Troy. That is the only way RV will listen. I would personally prefer that conference than the belt as it is constructed right now.1 point

If you look at the third (I think it's the third) picture there is a ladder from the club level to the suite level. Not exactly gonna be handicap accessible. Someone should look into that.1 point

Props to RV for sticking to his guns. The WAC is a sinking ship. Well maybe not a ship, but a sinking tugboat at the very least.1 point

I actually agree. I use to support us going to the WAC, but it's just too unstable.1 point

It's still there & we're fortunate (especially now) to have that holy trinity on our campus...Forgive me, I'm just going thru the old "if only we had done this 25 years ago" pity-party crapola again that a few of us older f@rts tend to do at times. BIRTHDAY ANNOUNCEMENT: Oh God! I turn 60 this November 24'th and I'll be gol'darned that this snuck up on me much too fast. But from my perspective and the era I attended NT, ie, The Fry Era, I have just always thought UNT should have progressed a bit more quicker than we did the last 30 plus years post-Fry and it was probably our 1975 Mean Green football season (I was a Junior) that spoiled me way too much as to make me think the (immediate) future looked very bright for North Texas. (I just never dreamed we'd be in the NCAA football wilderness as long as we have been). My "ONLY" complaint with the Athletic Director part of my hero Hayden Fry's job in Denton was that he didn't lead the way (and fund-raising efforts since he knew almost every Fat Cat in Dallas back in that day); anyway, that he didn't lead efforts in having Fouts demolished back then while having a new football palace built nearby. Even after my moving from Denton & moving to Dallas/Fort Worth, I never thought the Cotton Bowl or Texas Stadium would ever be the answer for our "Denton-based" university. NOTE: I'll check with Nurse Ratchitt about having my meds changed now!1 point

Can we stop with this? Football ball is not Basketball ball at this school. Whoever started drawing lines between the 2 should be ashamed. Basketball ball at this school has a lot to offer a player the caliber of Jordan Williams. 4 20 win seasons in a row and 2 NCAA appearances in this time certainly show that this team has the core and coaching to give someone like Jordan Williams every benefit as a player that can immediately step in and ooze confidence. Jordan and the rest of the players, like White and Thompson, Odufuwa, now, can leave a legacy and continue building the winning tradition and program. This program is teetering on the cusp of something great, and the players that join in will forever be remembered as the ones that got us there. Jordan feels it, as we fans do. That is completely different from football ball. Good for UNT's program, but more importantly, it will be great for Jordan Williams to blaze a trail and be a core component to getting us to a greater level. It certainly won't be easy, but he will have great coaching, great teammates around him, and family right next door. I, like Jordan Williams, am ecstatic with the potential.1 point

That struggle seems so UNT to me, when I was in school at North Texas I felt we would never get past it. I think this why so many felt we would never build a new Stadium.1 point

Normally, I would counsel a "quality over quantity" argument here. But, that would leave the impression that I also have a lot invested in the "size doesn't matter" argument as well. So I'll just stay out of this.1 point

I still can't think why the MWC would want USU, other than location. Did I miss them suddenly becoming a "good" athletic program? I would think that NMSU is too far west for CUSA, and would think that the MWC would rather add UTEP than Hawaii. I could see Troy or MTSU getting the invite to CUSA.0 points

Realignment basically comes down to two very main points.....(1) who has the political pull and (2) who has the money. UNT has neither. Never really had major political influence and never had any money for athletics as evidenced by the number of major head coaches NT has hired. Other than Fry what major college head coach has NT ever hired? I hate to say this but better get used to playing in the Sun Belt for a long time. Going to the games are fun and exciting no matter what conference we are in. Heck, as a kid I always thought the "Roo's" of Austin College was as exciting as football got. To me, for a while, that was major college football.0 points
-
Well that is the obvious and given. However CUSA as a whole going to an outreach that is a top media market is only a plus. Are you the real obvious man?0 points
