Gotta be honest...the kicking woes do not appear to be addressed and I'm sure this causes Dodge alot of worry. Alot of you are predicting 7-5. This WILL NOT happen unless we can consistently put 3 points on the board when needed.3 points

The fools. Very short-sighted by the USU AD thinking agreements in football conference membership involve loyalty over desire. It's not a marriage, it's a business.3 points

Why is everybody on Larry Coker? What is he supposed to say? He is doing what he is paid to do. At least he has confidence in his program and school. Yeah they won't get a big 12 invite but he is shooting for the stars...meanwhile little ol North Texas is just in a wait and we'll see what happens mode. Remember that he is a national championship winning coach....and it was not too long ago.3 points

Here are some pictures of the North Texas Skin I received yesterday. I know, I know. They aren't aerial photos of some giant new stadium or business building, but someone might be interested to see the actual product. I am quite happy with skin. Easy to "install", makes gripping the tablet much easier, adds protection without a bulky case and shows off some Mean Green pride. All the real fans have one...2 points

Remember a couple days ago when we had all that good Mean Green football talk in the Mean Green football forum? Those were good times. What if we moved all the realignment crud to the hobbit forum?2 points

Irony of all ironies- UTEP gets the MWC invite, UNT replaces UTEP in CUSA, the WAC goes bye bye, and La Tech is forced to go Sun Belt. This would result in Jihad of biblical proportions in Ruston.2 points

The WAC is now looking very weak. I would expect them to extend us another offer. If this happens, I hope RV continues his "wait & see" approach, and tables that offer. We have options! We will have to "wait & see" if BYU goes through with their threat, and if so, it's possible that the MWC would have more moves to make. I highly doubt that "wait & see" means "sit & do nothing". I'll bet RV has made a pitch or two to MWC officials. This is a possibility (albeit a very small possibility)! If the shakeups are ferocious enough and ConfUSA is affected, then we have yet another possibility open to us. We'll have to "wait & see". Folks, this is where our Interim President can make a HUGE difference for The University of North Texas. I'm thinking that with him at the helm at this time, we're in good shape. His connections are very well known, and this is not his first rodeo. And, when the smoke clears, if UNT is still in the Sun Belt, it is because that is the best place for us to be with the options we had (which none of us on GMG.com know). Trust in Lane. Trust in RV. Go Mean Green!2 points

Some really smart posters here told me they left for better opportunities because of how great the WAC is. I mean, if a boss gets 16 employees promoted in 11 years, he must be one heck of a boss. /Wank2 points

Dog him all you want, but Schnellly used the same shtick when he was freshly hired, frothing about FAU and we've yet to beat that start-up program. Sometimes baseless bravado works.2 points

Article (On if Pat Cobbs is sort of the default option as the kick returner) – “No, I don’t think he’s a default option. You just have to really understand what Patrick Cobbs does for our team in special teams. So, and I’m well aware that the return game is something that we need to improve on. But, Pat does a lot of jobs and he does them all really well. So, some of those areas we have to evaluate his return ability compared to maybe how he does another job there and the value of that. And I think that’s probably where we are right now so at this time when you have 80 bodies out here and you have some young guys that maybe have return ability in their past, you probably want to see them a little bit, so.” (On if it’s rare for a guy like Pat Cobbs to have that many different jobs/roles) - “Yeah, well I think it’s rare in that you don’t find too many players at times with the ability that Pat has to put the team first in every possible situation, so. And this guy puts the team first always and whatever you ask him to do he’s going to do it and he’s probably going to do it pretty good.”1 point

Karl Benson might want to defer to the old Kenny Rogers, ie, "The Gambler" hit song that includes the lyrics (and I liberally paraphrase) you need to know when to hold them--when to fold them. KB, it may be coming close to "fold em' " time, ol' pod'nuh.1 point

I am absolutely thrilled with all the good news relating to the basketball program recently. GREAT STUFF. The fact that UNT is getting this great PR is also good for the University as a whole and the athletic programs in specific. Man, here it is August and the BB program is getting such good press. Be still my heart! Hey, maybe the football program will get this sort of great press in January and February during basketball season. Could happen, you know after that 7+ win season this year! GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

USU invite tells me all I need to know. You don't want to be in a backalley knife fight with the MWC. They went for them first to provide maximum screwing to BYU.1 point

If the WAC totally implodes I hope we let La Tech "swim with the sharks" for a while. Don't immediately offer them a life preserver. They need to learn a little humility towards the SBC. Then make them pay a huge buyin fee, like $5 million!1 point

--Fan support would NO problem if we were in major confernece with big name schools coming to town.1 point

the one thing missing on your list is fan support. if we don't support a winning men's basketball, what will we support? unless we grow attendance, we bring nothing to the table.1 point

The wait and see mode is in regards to conference realignment. In my opinion NT's name needs to be out there and in the mix with all the other schools being mentioned. I don't think the waiting and see mode for a magical CUSA invite is the best strategy.1 point

Excellent points. Look at where we are now versus the last time shakeups hit close to home. Coaches (like Larry Coker) can spout off, presidents can spout off, and fans can fill up message boards but the real maneuvering happens behind closed doors. We have real political operatives working for us now and our facility improvements speak for themselves. We took care of the cosmetic stuff (facilities) and we have the political, quiet weapons as well. (Rawlins and Neinus) I feel comfortable with our current spot.1 point
-
Umm, how are we in a wait and see mode? We just hired a consultant that was a founding father of CUSA. We have built our stadium. We are doing EVERYTHING to walk the walk and not just talk the talk.1 point

I don't want to give ANY credibility to Coker's comments but, to give the devil his due... At least he's making some kind of noise and at this point maybe that trumps our "wait and see" attitude. As crazy as Coker looks and sounds, he's getting exposure for his program and as they say... the squeaky wheel does get the grease. Maybe a little more chest thumping on our part wouldn't be such a bad thing.1 point

I read the other day on TexAgs.net that we'd be a viable replacement for Iowa St in the BIG12 North within the next 27 years. I'm just gonna wait and hope.1 point

Don't take board talk to heart. Memory is short term for many of the posters. They see the last five years (or even less) and think that we have always been losers. They don't recall our four straight bowl appearances or remember that we have been a Top 20 team. They often aren't aware of any athletics other than football. They don't know the size and scope of our university. Here's some of the things that we have going for us that university presidents know but most fans don't: - We have 36,000 students - We have the largest number of alumni in the 5th largest market - We have more than 185,000 living graduates and far more that attended but did not graduate - We have been a member of the highest NCAA division for 57 years, 45 at the FBS equivalent - We are a little more than 20 miles from one of the world's busiest airports, allowing cheaper fares and easy availability - Beginning next year, excellent football and basketball facilities and an athletic village that will soon be on par or better with any non-AQ university - We offer 246 baccalaurate, masters, and doctors degrees at the Denton campus - We are on a 10-year plan to become a Tier 1 research university - There are 17 FBS universities within a 500 mile radius of Denton The above, along with having a president that has been active in NCAA hierarchy and perhaps the top-rated consultant in college sports, I think that we are well-placed to be a "player" in the upcoming realignment. No guarantees but I like our odds.1 point

how would a belt conference with n.mexico st, nt,a-state,ull,ulm,and la.tech in the west, fau,fi,middle,wk,troy, and s.ala. in the east play out? la tech is a natural fit, but n.mexico state has severe budget issues and is 600 miles from denton. i don't see what they bring to the table except a football team worse than ours.1 point

Good post. +1 Also trust in Chuck Neinas. Chuck thinks big time....he won't recommend that UNT be part of anything small scale.1 point

In life there are winners and losers. The WAC has 16 teams since 1999. They are down to little of value. Time for the Sun Belt to grab two, kill them and collect the power-up coin. http://beltboard.com/?p=4321 point
-
Why don't we (the Sun Belt) raid the WAC and take on NMSU and LaTech. When USA jumps up in football as expected that gives us 12 teams. It would be a better option for us than trying to jump ship to a dying WAC and try and revive it.1 point

Can't see MTSU moving West. Looks like this purposed conference whould be better in DII.1 point

That does nothing for me. What we have....and add the crap of the WAC. No thanks.1 point
