1) I was watching when Benny Jones got twisted up in a drill...could tell he tweaked his ankle. He walked off later on his own....hopefully it's not serious....as word is that he has had a great camp. 2) On a drill where three WRs went out for passes.....and three QBs threw passes to each one of them...I noticed one WR didn't try to catch the ball. But I thought, "Man, I sure love the way he runs." Anyway when I noticed his number.....it was Darius. So they have him running routes...just not catching the ball. Very smart, IMHO....to have him still doing his route running. I knew he would be out there conditioning....didn't know he'd be running routes. Maybe this is common for guys with hand injuries. I thought it made a lot of sense. 3) Saw something that I hadn't seen at a practice....but I guess has to be practiced ever so often: Coach Seroka had our punters and kickers practicing tackling. 4) If Coach Jeff "Bear" Bryant is who I think he is.....he looks just like Lefty. I don't mean in the face....I mean in the way he stalks around amongst the O linemen. Very similar in appearance. 5) Derrick Teegarden....looked good on the few passes which I saw of his. BTW...when I was out there....Riley practiced only as a WR. 6) I think we're really deep at O line. 7) I liked this guy in the spring....and he still impresses me. He may not ever be more than a backup OL....but Ayodele Adeipe (# 79) sure looks the part. I actually think he will end up starting for us in the future. But man does he stand out....he's huge. I think since his name is hard to pronounce...he really needs a nickname. Since his initials are AA and he's from California....and he's just this big....I'm calling him The AAC. (The AAC is what us Metroplex folks call The American Airlines Center). 8) Starting D line were as you can imagine....AK 47, Obi at ends; K Jax and Shavvod at tackles. 9) It was nice to finally meet fellow poster Travis. Travis, if you have any additions or corrections...please feel free to add and correct. SUMG11 points

Anyone who reads this board knows that I have been a vocal critic of coach Dodge. I have, along with many others, questioned a lot of the things he's done. I've even been accused by some with reading comprehension shortcomings of being "anti Dodge.". Let me go on record as saying I am far from it, I can easily separate the on field product from the man. With that said let me say this. After stepping back and looking at things I must give Dodge kudos. Many have complained about the glut of HS coaches...that has been fixed. I've complained about the lack of TE's in the passing game...all indications are that that will change. There is talk of going under center on short yardage. And now, according to Vito, there is actual hitting going on in practice. Mucho kudos. Ok, sit down for this next part. I believe, really, that this team can and will win eight (8) games this season and Todd Dodge will see the opening of the new stadium. I see a lot of promising things with this team. Guys are D1 sized at important positions. College coaches are on staff to make in-game decisions. The schedule is far from brutal. And, yes, I think the move of Riley to wideout will improve us because I DON'T believe it will hinder Dunbar's productivity and I think having a Qb who stays upright from week to week will be a big positive in terms of continuity. And I think having Riley in lots of different spots on the field will drive defenses crazy. Throw in the fact that I see "a lot of care" in this team and I believe it turns those near misses to W's. (I'm only being partially sarcastic about the "care" part)7 points

When something needs done, you ask a busy person to do it. Those actually with the free time are often so busy doing nothing that they don't have time for anything. When things are important, you simply MAKE THE TIME. One of the challenges the nation faces today is that too many people leave it up to others to do the job and to make things happen while they ride the coattails and reap the benefits of the work and effort of others. I work a full-time job (like most on this board), but there are lots of hours left in the day, and there are weekends. It's simply too much fun "doing stuff" rather than sitting around. I guess I learned it many many years ago from my parents that one of the responsibilities we have as citizens of this great nation, this great state our our wonderful local communities is to "do something" to try to help. Seems only natural to me....plus, there really is lots of time left over to relax. Sorry, have to run...I have a golf outing today (yes, I am sneaking away from work) with a guy I am trying to talk into donating to the Mean Green Alumni Pavilion and the new stadium...and the guy is an Arkansas grad, but had a son graduate from UNT. See, sometimes you can combine fun with that "effort and concern". I'll say "thanks" for what I'll take as a compliment. Hopefully, all that "effort and concern" will at least give some pause to stop and think about how they look at such things. GO MEAN GREEN!5 points

I'm pretty sure in order for a cage match to work both fighters have to actually be allowed in the cage.3 points

The "W" drill, or "Blood Alley" as it is also known, has been as common to football practices as cleats and chin straps for generations. I think I first participated in one in the 5th grade, although usually the rest of the players who are waiting their turn line up along the sides so that the guy running the ball can't run out of bounds around cones to avoid a hit. You either foughtt through the tackle or got the crap knocked out of you. A Dickey/Deloach run practice during "Blood Alley" drills were some of the most exciting football practices to watch. Even the QB's, Kickers and Punters had to participate in it. There was no taking it easy on anyone regardless of what color practice jersey they had on and the equipment guys were constantly changing out and replacing the face mask mounts on the helmets from the massive collisions. The very fact that this is just now being introduced and considered something "NEW" around here says and explains a lot about the past three years. Better late than never I suppose? Rick3 points

Thank God they are finally doing this! Between bringing something like this back and the workouts these kids were doing over the summer I am starting to get really pumped about this year! You guys are right on about Dickey and the way we practiced then. EVERY DAY in pads during the spring and two-a-days ended with something like this. Rather it was 1 on 1 or 3 on 3 Oklahoma drill or the much more violent cover drill, we would get after it. I remember the days that we would do 1 on 1 Oklahoma drills were a relief after enough time doing all of this. Hell, we used to get called out in groups which sometimes involved the kickers going against linebackers. Bazaldua held his own by the way! Looking back now it is funny how as much as you hate it, beating the crap out of each other can bring you closer together and make you a team. A tough team at that! Good for the players and for Dodge. It seems like they are putting in the work and are going to send Fouts off with a bang not a whimper in 2010!2 points

I've dispatched Vito to the task of procuring info on Redmond...apparently the guy is too busy with some thing called "football" to get back quickly. Jerk.2 points

Well, Dwone Hicks from MTSU scared me in 2001. Anyone remember the "Hicks for Heisman" campaign. Well, we popped him in the mouth a couple of times and he sat on the bench the rest of the game. Do the same to Dasher and see what happens.2 points

I must say I do miss the "Kick-A$$" attitude of DD's teams, especially the defense. We may not have always won, but you knew you had played us based upon our defense. I miss those days and hope this signals the return.2 points

Illegal block in the back, if I recall correctly. If Green Lantern hasn't erased his text messages I believe he'd be able to provide you with a complete, play by play recap of this game that we were happy enough to provide him while he honeymooned in Turks and Caicos.2 points

Emmitt has been hitting the Panty-Dropper! I'm already at 7 - 5, maybe a glass of what he's having will get me there. Seriously, I like what I read and see about what is happening on the practice field and think we're due. Coach Dodge, we want you and your staff to git 'er done!1 point

I don't think this quite matches the Fake's 180 degree turnaround, but we are certainly seeing unexpected optimism from some unexpected places.1 point

Remember when Quoner and yourself kept stealing the meat out of my refrigerator and so I tried to convince you two that a piece of particularly tasty and exotic meat was actually human meat? It wasn't. It was chimpanzee. One particular chimpanzee. Don't let it happen again.1 point

I'll make it up in beer...in NYC...you know...when you and the wifey come up for the Army game. This. This. This. I was just thinking..."when is the last time MTSU was favored to win the Sun Belt?" Oh yeah...2001... Anyone remember what happened that year?1 point

All true but good teams find ways to win. Everything you listed is why we went 2-10 last year. Nobody in this league scares me.......well, except us. We kill me.1 point

Metroplex Hoops says Williams has cut his list down to 5 schools, and we're still on it. Marquette, Georgia, Arizona State, Houston, and North Texas.1 point

This list is a joke...our acceptance rate, our programs offered, our research developed, our campus, our Greek programs, our cost, our Sports Teams, our graduation rate.....all of these things rank in the top 5 public schools in Texas on any other site. I have often seen sites that compare our ranking with that of Tech in both graduation rates, Average SAT/ACT, and apparently we have a lower acceptance rate than Tech. Again...this list is garbage. Jackson probably failed to write a check to Forbes for the endorsement.1 point

Yes, his throwing mechanics are somewhat scary. But when you win like he (and Ronnell Sims) has (especially in 5A football Region II) and put up numbers like that you've got to be a good football player. Saying that, he probably does not pass the litmus test as an FBS QB, but he's a heck of an athlete who our coaches need to take a long look at. We're probably never going to go down to DeSoto or Cedar Hill and get their top 3 recruits; but we've got to start chipping away at kids who are their next tier on those teams and are committing to Houston, Tulsa, Baylor, SMU, etc.1 point

I am certainly hoping for the best but all I need to say is 5-31 the last 3 seasons. There is absolutely no way they win 8 games this year. I hope I am wrong but I don't see it.0 points

If I see one more post(and I already know I will) about interceptions being drastically reduced with a new QB next season imma internet barf. We're replacing an inexperienced freshman QB with either a kid who's thrown 3 passes or a guy who's been a career backup. Sure rodge had his fair share of warts as a freshman starter.0 points

Unless you tell someone WHY you are not going back, BIG DEAL...they won't miss you and will never know you have left. It is amazing how talking to the manager can, at times, help in these sort of situations. It may not have been the manager's decision, but he could send the issue up the chain of command and let those that make these stupid decisions know that they might need to re-think a bit. However, as long as UNT fans do not buy and wear UNT gear the lack of respect will definitely continue. It's no secret within the local business community that you can get away with this sort of thing because you'll never suffer any sort of backlash from UNT people and no one will say much of anything about it...EVER! UNT doesn't get the respect it deserves because those that support UNT do not demand respect for UNT and most who say they support UNT simply don't care. To get respect you have to earn it and demand it. Tell the manager and then others should tell the manager. I was in that store yesterday as well, but did not see the display...I was in the grocery section for about 10 minutes. I will definitely make a point of going back and talking to the manager...not in a disrespectful way by any means, but simply to let him know that it's a mistake...and I'll be wearing Mean Green gear when I do! I encourage anyone who can to stop by that store and ask to speak to the manager about this.0 points

Do the softball programs have as much trouble getting JUCO players to qualify, show up and actually stay in school as the football programs at most schools?0 points

Interesting. I'm not sure what he would have to sign if he is not being given a scholarship.-1 points

Why does it offend you? Let's just face it. People don't want to wear UNT gear and that Wal Mart in Corinth will never sell UNT stuff like they will OU stuff.......ever. And as far as the economic impact of UNT people in this whole area is great and all but when it comes to the school pride and wearing gear it's just not there. We win some games and do big things in all of our major sports and beat teams people know then it may change but until then it is what it is. It's no big deal.-1 points

So, tell me...why is a simple honest question worth -2 in points???? It's a fact that JUCO football signees have some challenges at times actually getting to enroll at their D1 programs and then there have been numerous cases where JUCO transfers don't stay for one reason or another...including academics. It was just a question guys...and honest one as I do not follow college softball all that closely..GEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ-1 points
