  2. All this speculation is going around as to what if and what happens if this comes about..... the only thing you need to do is to get to the Rice Home Opener with no less than 5 people in tow...preferably 10. Drink your beers before the game but get your butt in the seat to let the guys know we are there and we want them to succeed. I've got my entourage for Rice...do you?

  3. Article on the Bleacher Report, "2010 Non-BCS Conference Profiles: Sun Belt Conference http://bleacherreport.com/sun-belt-football Check out North Texas RB, "Lamar Dunbar", who is mentioned twice in the story. Geez! One of the very best RB's in the country and the Bleacher Report cannot report Dunbar's name correctly! IMHO, this article confirms to me the Bleacher Report is about as useful as screen doors on a submarine.

  4. And, while we are at it "putting our big boy pants on", why don't we put our support dollars where our mouths are? If we demand from our coaches and our players, should we not also expect support levels to increase by the same standard? It is one thing to "say" UNT needs to do this or that and be a "champagne" program, to pay big tinme coaching salaries, to recruit the best, to play the best, but it is hard to do on a "beer" budget. If ever there was a time to financially support this program, it is NOW! The administration is demanding wins, it is building a new stadium and it is moving the entire program ahead. That takes dollars and plenty of them. Season ticket sales are not at nearly the levels they should be for this program to move forward, memberships in the Mean green Club are so low as to be laughable for a university the size of UNT, Alumni memberships are still way too low. Little things add up and make a difference. You can make a difference for very little in the way of donations...yes, a little can help a great deal at this time in UNT's history. The time is really "now or never" for this program and its supporters. It's a great time to be a member of the Mean Green Nation as so much positive is happening. Let's all try to get beyond past snubs (real and perceived) or past "I'll do this when's" and decide to step up and be part of the solution. Buying season tickets...at any price...even one...can help, making a donation to the Mean green Club and/or the stadium at even $25 if you are currently a non-donor can make a big difference, joing the Alumni Association at the annual level can make a big difference...it doesn't take much to make a difference at this very critical time in UNT's history. I ask each and every member of the Mean Green Nation to stop and really think about where UNT is and what it wants to accomplish. Do what you can and only what you can...however much that is...but do something. Let's help move this program from a "beer budget" to a "champagne budget" and show the nation that the Mean Green Nation means business, and that it has the support from alumni, students and fans to make it happen. It is way past time that we all "got over" our own personal grievenances and stop placing "conditions" on our support. RV and his team have shown that they mean business, do we or do we just want to continue down that same old tired lame road of excuses? GO MEAN GREEN!

  5. You get what you pay for. No sense bitching about free content unless something egregious pops up. EDIT: That said, there are plenty of people doing it for free, doing it well and doing it with care. Look at the articles and podcasts on this very site. You vote with page views (unless you can find a questionable Facebook photo of Tobi Writes; then it's open season).

  8. We are so lucky to have a fan that has dedicated his time and money to providing all of us with such a wonderful fan website. Harry keeps the board updated, writes articles, does pod casts, and still manages to keep his cool through all the hijinks and shenanigans on this sucker. Thank you Harry, the board has come a long way since the old Paradise board... I appreciate you. One of these days, we are going to get you the Spirit Award from UNT :/

  9. Ha ha...that's funny. Air Force Lt. and Captain turn the keys and blow the enemy to kingdom come and the Army Sgt says "thanks for saving my hide"! OK, here's a little story I was once told by an Army capt. When the war starts... The Navy sits offshore and pounds the beach with shells to 'soften the defenses"; The marines then come ashore and take the beach and secure the high ground The Army then comes in and relieves the marines and march inland The the Air Force comes in and build the Officer's Club! And another from my Army Air Corps WWII enlisted vet Dad..."son, never sign up for any branch of the service except the Air Force or the Navy. Those guys know how to live and at least get hot meals and warm showers most of the time." Of course one might ask all the downed pi,lots and POW's fliers and crew about that "hot meals and warm showers" stuff. I, for one, appreciate every man and women who serves or who have served in ANY branch of the armed forces or Merchant Marine or Coast Guard. Were you aware that many members of the Coast Guard served in Viet Nam patrolling the rivers and took fire on a consistent basis from the enemy? And, are you aware that the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is the ONLY academy allowed to fly a battle standard on its flag...not West Point, not the Naval Academy and Not the Air Force Academy. Why, because the Merchant Marines Academy is the only academy that sends its cadets/midshipmen into harm's way in times of conflict...in fact 147 midshipmen from the Merchant Marine Academy gave their lives in service to this great nation during WWII. I am very proud of my Air Force Service...hot meals and warm showers and all. AND...BTW...GO MEAN GREEN...BEAT ARMY!!!!!!

  10. I don't understand debating on whether or not to bring a coach back after this season when we have yet to play a down of football? Is Coach Dodge the coach of the future? I hope so. Does 6-6, or even 5-7 bring him back next year? Who knows what this year could hold? I don't know... His team's results will dictate that and regardless of how you feel about him, everyone here on this board should be rooting for the MEAN GREEN to win every game. I'm pretty sure that is the case with all of us. Say we start 5-1 with a sole loss to Clemson, then Dunbar,Santiago,Robertson & Tune/Thompson all go down with freak, season-ending injuries in game 7 and we lose out...but we're competitive. What then? Reprieve? I would hope so! We don't know the circumstances of the upcoming season. Let's just show up and support the green. If Coach Dodge deserves to stay, it will make itself apparent. If he needs to go, it will make itself apparent. GO COACH DODGE! GO MEAN GREEN!

  13. Do you watch the games with 'anti'-Dodge goggles on? Simply having a dynamic run/pass threat at QB opens things for the RB in this style offense. Would you argue that even that is not true? Unless TDodge was just blowing smoke in the press today about still running the zone-read as a our base running package, we're going to need a dynamic player at QB in order to run that effectively. I like Tune for his poise and passing ability...but I don't see how he's going to suddenly (I say suddenly since we have not yet seen it) develop into a running threat at QB. I hope he wins the job....but I imagine that our offense is going to have to change, from what we've seen the last 3 years, if we're going to run the football effectively with Tune running the zone-read most of the time. I'm not necessarily trying to knock either Tune or Thompson....the staff tweaked our offense when Riley took over last year(to take advantage of his running ability) and I think it's hard to argue that Dunbar didn't benefit greatly from those changes. It'll have to change again this year with someone else in there, and I hope that the staff figures out HOW to keep Dunbar and our running game the threat it was last year. There is no question that Tune is a better down the field passer than Riley....but if all we are is a one dimensional passing team, we're not going to be hard to defend.

  15. I agree with the platoon against Clemson considering the coach's likely honest view of that game. Given the comment this week about Darius Carey: “We hope to get him back for the first game [at Clemson], but definitely I want to get him back for Rice and Army,".... one doesn't have to think hard to recall the STUNNING admitted strategy in Manhattan a couple years back replaying itself. Platoon the QBs, figure out what works best, and get ready for Rice and Army... you know, the games we DEFINITELY want to be full strength for.

  17. Well, let's see if I understand this right......if you have the players that are good enough to win seven games and you don't win seven games, that only leaves one area that underperformed, doesn't it ?

  20. This seems simple to me. We named the last stadium after the athletic director that got it built. We should name this stadium after the athletic director that got it built. Rick Villarreal Park Call it the RV Park, the "V" or what ever. Would you rather play in a stadium or a Park ? Thanks Rick What have YOU done to benefit North Texas Athletics lately ? GO MEAN GREEN

  21. If it's history you're after, then why not name it "Normal/Teachers Stadium"? I would not be opposed to the Rick V idea, but "Mean Green Stadium" would be my vote for now.

  22. I mentioned this in another thread, but I'd like it if it was ultimately named Villarreal Stadium and nick-named "The V", both for the name as well as for the shape of the end zone stands.

  30. Wow. Has the culture here become so beaten down that we are afraid to demand a winning season out of a coach in his 4th year? Do you really believe it will take the next coach (if that even happens) 4 years to establish a winning record? Well, I for one am glad that standard are being set and they are public. Everyone now knows that we expect something from our athletic programs and that we will not settle for status quo. Is that such a bad thing? Why do you think it will take 4 additional years for a new coach to "rebuild" this program? My God, how many coaches have been successful in year 2 at their new job. Just look down the road and you will find one, and with a similiar set of circumstances. I expect to win at least 7 games a year. I don't care how bad we have been "since returning to FBS," I care about how good we will be this year forward. I don't mean anything personal by this, but it is infuriating to see these "we have always sucked, so it's ok if we only suck only a little less" posts from people that have been around here a long time. Is that really the standards you want set for this program? Have you really been that badly beaten by your husband/college football program that your college football self-esteem is that low? Hey, Coach Dodge is a great guy and does everything right for UNT, except win (so far). Like it or not, that is the name of the game in college football. If you don't want to play by those rules, take your a&% back to D1AA. I would bet Coach Dodge would be the first to tell you the same thing. Maybe we all should suck it up, grab the young ones, and take ourselves to the Shelter for Battered College Football Program's Fans, where we can begin to build the expectations and confidence that will lead to a better college football future. Jackwagons!!!

  31. Wow. So facts and anything at approaches accuracy should give way to "volume" and "content." Of course that "content" is utterly devoid of reality but there is a lot of volume. That "content" also must exclude any sort of logic or fact-based reasoning as well. If a so called writer lacks even the most basic desire to appear literate and doesn't even bother read what he scrawled onto a page, why is there any reason to assign any value to his drivel? Name a functioning magazine or newspaper or legitimate news website with the a spelling, grammar or factual error at the Bleacher Reports usual rate one every third sentence. I can't think of a single reason to read, much less believe, anything appearing in The Bleacher Report.

Good to know that Coach Dodge knows exactly what the expectations for the team are this year. Can't help but respect a boss who lets you know exactly what he wants a year before he wants it.
