Very good points, and I would also add the inequality in how the state historically funded Texas, Texas A&M and then all the other state suppported schools. I'm not sure U of H is a good comparison. They still have the notch in their belt of being a part of the SWC which puts them a nod above us in many peoples eyes. Our conference affiliations, or lack thereof, is really what hurts us in the public's eye. Houston's facilities, on a whole, will be behind NT's once the stadium is completed, and their basketball facilities are abysmal, although their new AD is trying to change this. The SWC and Phi Slamma Jamma still carry a lot of weight in many peoples eyes. North Texas really hurt themselves when Fry left and the administration pretty much gave up properly funding the program and allowing us to drop to 1AA. We basically went from the verge of the SWC and Top Twenty rankings to poor coaching decisions, losing seasons and being group with the likes of SFA, Sam Houston, Northwestern (La) State, etc... Nothing against those schools, but when your aspirations had you playing alongside the likes of UT, A&M, TTech, etc... one day and the next your playing against the schools listed above, public opinion is sure to slide.2 points

That's how Dickey would have done it -- and we hardly won any OOC games and hardly ever had a starting OB before conference play. It is hard to make the difficult game decisions when you have to look over your back the whole game.2 points

Hey guys, here is something I wrote after looking at practice earlier this morning. I wrote it for kntu.com, and it's only a spotlight on the quarterbacks. I'll be at practice on Monday, and I'll be putting what I thought about the defense then. Don't attack me for talking about the QB's today, but they really stood out. Plus, it's hard to tell exactly how good the players look when they are just using helmets. Here is the link: UNT QB's look good at practice Again, don't attack me, I'm just a student but I figured there can never be enough Mean Green coverage! I can't wait for football season, and I'm sure everyone else here can't either.1 point

Definitely the NMSU game. There was an electric atmosphere and the crowd was REALLY into it. The best big-time college game feeling I can remember at Fouts. Navy is second, but it too felt pretty good even though we lost. Great pageantry and exciting offense, both ways. Baylor was a romp and there wasn't much excitement except how many points we would score. A real good time but not an exciting football game.1 point

This piece by Greg Doyel at CBS Sports touches on the oversigning done by the BCS schools. I'm not sure it has turned out this way at Troy, but these big schools basically oversign, allow the players to qualify and report, have too many players in fall to put on their roster, and cut players from their promised scholarship. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/13727507/bad-guys-utilize-oversigning-and-it-has-to-stop?tag=globalNav.collegefootball;cover1 point

What I love about this story is that the Knicks are in the spot they are in large part because of Isiah. So, in order to increase sucksess, they have asked him to consult. This makes total sense to me.1 point

I hope the defensive players are getting as tired of seeing this as I am.1 point

I'll go wih Baylor because of the rare "big-time college football" atmosphere we had for that game. Didn't hurt that we dominated the game either.1 point

Agreed, this battle will go into the season. I think that Riley will throw the ball quite a bit, just not line up as the QB. Whoever can work with Riley the best will get the starting nod.1 point

Having camps like this just makes sense. I hope it continues.1 point

1st team, 2nd team or the A-team...it doesn't matter, he protected the football. Make no mistake, if we don't protect the ball we will NOT make a turnaround. We're just not that good. If Thompson brings speed, arm strength, athleticism and INT and/or fumble numbers like we got from the QB position last season...we will lose. We could win only scoring 21 pts or so. We cannot win putting the defense in bad spots and spotting the other team cheap points off turnovers. I fully believe Tune gives you the best chance for this reason.1 point

The Target off the Loop has a isle of nothing but UNT gear. Boxer shorts , pennants , shirts , even UNT notebook covers. My wife surprised me and bought my son a little UNT jersey the other day. It was a nice to walk in from a hard day of work and be greeded by my little man decked out in his brand new # 5 jersey !1 point

I remember watching that game and seeing those turnovers, and I'll admit, I blamed him a little bit for losing that game because of those interceptions, but a few weeks later I changed my opinion on him during that game, and you are right, he did a very good job protecting the ball.1 point

I think he's done. He neither wants nor can take the beating that would surely come. Plus, and I don't know why others don't see this, Tune has proven to be a VERY good steward of the football. No backbreaking turnovers (dont even TRY to bring up Ohio people...he brought us back and threw passes to win that one, TWICE). He faced the best teams on the schedule last season (live time against a first team defense...for more than one series) and came out looking pretty good.1 point

This is just a battle that I honestly didn't expect to see. I thought for sure with Riley moving to WR that it was basically Tune's job. But now Tune is thinking, "man I wish I had bones of steel!!"1 point

no, this is a student radio station for and about the university of north texas. if you want to highlight some pro sports stories or some results of important national college games or bowl games fine. but a story about ut scheduling notre dame when they have already played each other 10 times in the past and nd is not even top 25? bs. some internal texas or nd fan stuck that story on there on purpose.1 point

Here are the kiddos decked out in their UNT gear. Pretty cool getting to meet Johnny. Guess you can tell by two of the three kids that we're more into UNT basketball, but we'll make it to a few football games this season, too.1 point

Just got the word that we decided to change it to DOLLAR beer tonight, just more reason to come out to the stadium and enjoy some good college baseball1 point

KRAM.....your memory is off. The number Dan quoted was 465...not 200. Still way too low.....we need over a thousand.....but it's not 200. BTW...conferences take things like...support group (MGC in our case) and season ticket sales into consideration when considering new members. So we really need more MGC members and season ticket holders, if we want to be taken seriously as a FBS program.1 point

I agree with you and disagree with you, both at the same time. Yes, turnovers must be eliminated from the QB position, and Tune should be better equipped to do that. But, I think Thompson is better equipped to be able to move the football on offense. If you are going 3 and out every series it doesn't mattter if you aren't turning the ball over (just an example, not what I would expect from Tune). For this team to make a dramatic turnaround, this team NEEDS Thompson to be the difference maker that he appeared he could be against Ark St. Tune may get you between 3-5 wins. Thompson may get you 7 or he may get you 1. It's a gamble, but surely we are due for some luck for a change. I hope.0 points

I'm afraid in his one drive last year, Thompson created expectations that Joe Montana couldn't live up to.0 points

No offense....but you shouldn't throw out unsubstantiated stuff like "word from around camp is that coaches want ******* to start." I really doubt that coaches would be saying anything of the sort. They've got two quality QBs battling it out. And btw.....whichever one they choose, I'm fine with. Just my opinion. And I appreciate the effort...just to me, it's a turnoff when someone posts something like that and doesn't back it up.-1 points

You mean to tell me the KNTU website is about Texas sports in general and not just NT? Hmmmmm, something VERY wrong going on if that's the case. Does that mean I should expect an SFA story in the near future?-1 points

Interesting post. I find it baffling that nobody likes to talk about the conspiracy theory that the coaching staff betrayed Tune and the team by going ultra conservative in the first quarter against Alabama. Many UNT fans and players from last year think it was clear that it was a move to not allow Tune to succeed, just so Riley would keep his job and there would be no QB controversey.-6 points
