Talk about an epic day for the auction. I have been glued and fascinated since the morning. The best line of the day is after winning the bid, Chuck Greenberg said "It was a lot of money but we're still going after Cliff Lee." Just awesome to hear.2 points

Does anyone really know if he was in fact a promising player, has fully recovered from his injuries, does not have family obligations that become before football, havs academic issues, etc.? Not everyone is suited for college or college football, It is easy to criticize especially when you are speculating without much information. Maybe he just rather drive trucks, but there could be any number of other reasons; he is not going to play at NT. Whatever, I hope Keenan made the right decision for himself.2 points

I just got back from HI a month ago. I was surprised to see the UNT student body president quoted in the Honolulu paper as U of H students are putting up quite a stink about a proposed $50. per semester athletic fee, before you youngsters get a rope, I would inform you that unlike UNT students U of H students PAY for tickets to all athletic events. The quote from UNT student body President was encouraging in that he said the fee was a big deal when proposed but now is accepted as the new stadium rises and the worth of a UNT degree rises with it.1 point

I see a lot of optimism on this board. Even 5 wins would be considered a huge improvement. But I remember telling myself last season not to get caught in the emotional trap again this year. Much like what the Mavs do to me, I can't get excited about this thing again. As hard as I'm trying to keep my emotions from getting the best of me this thread is making it difficult, however. Kyle, In response to a posting you put out here a few months ago asking locals to open up their homes for these players. We actully became a host family this season. It has worked out great. We attend a lot of Marshalls games.1 point

1) Tulsa (either one) -- but I think the home loss stings more. On the road I remember Tulsa trying to be nice before half time and kick a field goal instead of blowing up the score. Dickey calls a timeout, pisses on TU's coach and they send in their offense and score the TD just to spite DD. 2) South Florida -- jesus. I thought this game would be proof we were finally "good." 3) Troy (2001) -- We only had to beat a Div 1aa (provisional 1a) school to have a WINNING record heading into our first bowl game in 4 years? But we still can't win?one1! 4) Kansas State -- that was a long drive there and back. TTG sums it up well. However, their stadium blows and their fans were on the lame side of passionate fans. I guess that is a minor victory. 5) USM -- I thought we would see the offense peak and Super JMO be on ESPN. Instead we got a tricked up offense that didn't look anything like what got us there.1 point

This is a good one. With that game being talked about then we can also put the NT/Navy game in there. It's just wheels off when you say yup we scored 62 points at home but we still lost by 12. Just a kick in the gut.1 point

Sorry to lose him, but just to be clear. "He has a grandfather with a trucking business and is going to work for his company." Going to work for you grandfather, the owner of a trucking business, is not quite the same as becoming a truck driver.1 point

Another one that wasn't exactly within the last 10 years, but since we are strolling down a painful memory lane... 1994 Boise St 24 UNT 20 First round of the I-AA playoffs in a year that I think we could have gone very deep (maybe even one the thing) had we been able to get out of the first round. If memory serves, I believe we were ahead for most of this game until things fell apart late as Boise started blitzing on about every play.1 point

I'll add the 2009 Army game to the list. Late in the fourth quarter I turned to my wife and said "if we don't find a way to F**** this up, we just won a football game". Well, I'll be darned if we didn't find a way to do exactly that.1 point

There are two kinds of Walk-Ons. First you have an Invited (also known as Preferred) Walk-On. They are invited by a member of the coaching staff. This usually takes place between National Signing Day in February and before two a days start. They may be asked to join the team at the start of two a days (top 105 players) or after school starts (will be in the group of players #106-120). The second kind of Walk-On is at a tryout that happens in September and February where current students of the university can try to walk on. This year UNT is only doing this in February. The team might select no one or a few that tryout depending on the team's needs and the availablity of spots on the 120 man roster. Anyone selected from this tryout is normally put in the 106-120 group on the team until the next season unless there is a need to move them up to the 105 man active roster. I do not believe players are cut unless there is an academic or team violation issue. Below is what is on the UNT football website for the second kind of Walk-On: Football Walk-on Information There will be no open walk-on tryouts this fall 2010 for the football team. If you have interest in walking on to the football team, the next opportunity will be in February of the spring semester 2011. We have an open tryout day once a year for those individuals who meet the requirements. You can check back the first week of classes (info will be posted on the website) in January 2011 for more details on the exact dates. Thank you for your interest in North Texas Football. FYI: All walk-on prospects who want to be eligible to tryout in the Spring of 2011 must meet the following: 1. Be enrolled at UNT fulltime (12hrs) and carry a 2.25 cumulative G.P.A. at all times. 2. Current and active insurance ( copy must be presented at try out) 3. A physical within 6 months of the try out date in February 2011..1 point

I've always been impressed with the passion I hear in Rick's voice. While he is well compensated, I think believe he wakes up each morning thinking of ways to make North Texas Athletics better and wants nothing but a high level of success for our players, students, and coaches. Thanks Rick GO MEAN GREEN1 point

Without NFL Europe not many options to get paid to play football besides NFL and CFL. I don't see it any different than guys going overseas to play basketball before those leagues became more legitimate. This league is only in its sixth year and is growing each year. Like you said can't be bad to dominate and get paid while you can to play a game you love.1 point

...and here's the BIG dilemma that clouds my thoughts on TDodge. I would like nothing better than to see Dodge turn it around at UNT and coach here for a long, long time. He is an absolute class act and seems to really want to be here (unlike previous coaches who shall remain nameless). However, we haven't even been competitive in our games against Troy with Dodge at the helm. The 45-7 loss was the worst beating I've ever witnessed, at this level, when you consider that we had 7 takeaways and still lost by 38! We hardly put up a fight against the best teams on our schedule year in and year out and that really, really worries me. I realize we were 19 points away from a winning record last season, but that was 19 points against a cream puff schedule. The really tough teams we played put us away quickly. If we manage to win 7 games this year, but are not at least competitive with Troy and MTSU (or whoever ends up winning the conference)....then I'd rather not see Dodge return. I don't know if that makes me a fickle fan, an idiot or just plain beaten down.1 point

...So, I love all the predictions... everyone has good points... ...but if you're picking UNT to beat Troy, you're drinking far too much Kool-Aid.1 point

AMEN to recruiting American runners...now if only we could get the tennis program to do the same thing....OK, so it's not exactly the same, but every scholarship given to a foreign athlete means that some American kid is not getting a chance. Makes absolutely no sense to me. maybe the change needs to come at the NCAA level????0 points

I can still remember talking with a friend who was very close to the program and discussing why we never had anyone spy the running back (pitch man). We had an all-conference safety then, Weathers I believe, and never did this. It's these kinds of things that make me so deadset on wanting seven wins to be a hard and fast standard. It's one thing if you just have bad luck for three years and are almost over the hump. It's another when coaching decisions, coaching staff decisions, being slow to institute personnel/package changes, etc have brought you to this point. To put it in terms relative to my profession, if I had a guy who started out robbing banks, then robbing convenience stores, then only pickpocketing and he got probation after all this...he can only make probation work by being crime free, not by stealing the occasional candy bar and pleading that he's making "progress". His own actions took him to this precipice.0 points

From the 2002 UNT vs Arizona recap- "the Mean Green’s only points came off three Nick Bazaldua field goals. Bazaldua hit on kicks of 44 and 32 in the first half and then connected on a 31-yarder on North Texas’ opening series of the third quarter." Even if Arizona was down in '02, could last years Mean Green FG kicker have done this??0 points

Let's just hope he doesn't end up torn and calling this job his own prison. We need to take it higher and become number one. I want a coach who will stand here with me, not leave me six feet from the edge and thinkin' maybe six feet ain't so far down.-1 points
