I hadn't seen the information that our first game in the new stadium is going to be on national TV. Anyway, if you're frightened of us playing Houston....stay home. You can cower under your sheets all day.....and maybe Mommy will bring you a bowl of soup. Sheesh.6 points

Can we try not to crap our pants whenever we have an opportunity to register a meaningful win? Houston will be breaking in a new QB and, possibly, a new head coach if Sumlin duplicates last year's success. Sound familiar?? If, as an institution, you are going to worry about playing a home game against a non-BCS opponent, just do yourself a favor and voluntarily drop to FCS.5 points

Houston is good, but they aren't unbeatable good. Good Lord....they beat OSU last year....and then got beat the next week by UTEP by 17 (as I recall). Houston lost 4 games last year. They also lost to ECU and UCF. And in the bowl game in Ft. Worth....Air Force beat them by 27. I'm doing this from memory...so the score margins may not be accurate. But to sit here acting like Houston, at home, is a "body bag" game is so "give up"...that it's pathetic.4 points

When you drive north on 35 through Lake Dallas, there are a couple of those digital billboards at the Swisher Rd. exit. Anyway, I noticed today that UNT had an ad up for football. Now these ads change out every twenty seconds or so, so we are not continuously seen. But they are using the artists drawings of the new stadium along with a reference to UNT football. I think it is great that something is up and in a great location. There are many people who live in Oakmont, Corinth, Shady Shores, Lake Dallas, and it is great that we are advertising there. Hopefully they will think that, with the new stadium, they might start attending some games.3 points

To you girls that are afraid of playing Houston in the opener of our NEW STADIUM: This is about opening that new football stadium for UNT, not the opponent. Come to celebrate the facility, the stadium, the bright future ahead. Do you realize how close we were to not having this stadium, and perhaps not having a top level program too? I remember waiting on here that October 2008 afternoon for news of the student vote on the athletic fee. Someone posted that it wasn't looking good. I was beyond depressed, thinking of "the future that could have been for our program". Well, the vote finally did pass, and that future and new facility will soon be reality. http://web3.unt.edu/news/story.cfm?story=11204 This is what many of us MG fans have waited so many years to see. Bring on Houston or Notre Dame or the Cowboys as an opponent; the team and fans will be pumped and ready that night for anyone!3 points

Maybe it's that 54 - 2 game vs Tulsa or maybe that 77 - 20 drumming vs Rice that is still in some heads. Do I worry , yes. Should I , no. We should raise our expectations , but just because we build a new stadium doesn't mean we will all of sudden get better on the field. See SMU2 points

Thank God our team won't go into that game under the assumption they are going to get "smoked." UH will be breaking in a new QB. If they do well again this year, they may be looking for a new head coach, too. This is a good opportunity. We'll get press in Houston and in Dallas on our stadium and our facilities as well as our on-field performance. In one of those areas, we'll hit a home-run. The other remains to be seen but I'd be hesitant to raise the white flag this early in the game.2 points

Nitpicking I know, but the article says 2011 will be our second consecutive season of six home games. It will be the third. We played six last season in 2009 also. Smarty-pantsiness aside, I'm thrilled by how the schedule shakes out. I don't want an SBC home game for the first week in 2011...some of our "supporters" might decide to stay home or in the parking lot.2 points

Good article and I hope this is the year he realizes the success from his hard work. has he been perfect? No, but who is? He is a good man that represents our university very well and is a good man. I hope he is the coach here for a long time.2 points

Troy just rolls the dice. http://www2.dothaneagle.com/sports/2010/jul/30/troy-football-players-report-ready-work-ar-645273/ Qualifying updates: ... Waycross, Ga., defensive end Adrian Mack didn’t qualify and is headed for junior college, along with Marianna defensive back Fidel Montgomery and Prattville wide receiver Corey Shelton. Other February signees who won’t be here this fall are running back Mike Smith (Tallassee), offensive linemen Mark Beard (Birmingham), Chris Hawkins (Florence) and Jeron Boykin (Thomaston) and defensive backs Ethan Davis (Panama City), Terrance Evans (Bristol, Fla.) and Charles Hayes (Thomasville, Ga.).1 point

Joined his HS team last fall after moving from Paradise to Graham and finished the season as a starting wide reciever. Case McCoy was his QB. Played WR/DB. 195 pounds, not sure of height. Sr stats: 45 catches/802 yds/17.8 ypc/8 TD's/17 tackles/1 INT/2 FC (third in receptions, second in TD's). NT coaches told him they would redshirt him this year.1 point

Joe, what do you sound like when you are confident and not scared? I think if SMU or TCU won't come, then I think Houston is a good choice. I think you should open with as biggest name as you possibly can. USF hosted Texas in their new stadium. Though Texas won, Mack Brown said after the game that they would be careful not to help another school open their stadium. USF played lights out because of the excitement, and I believe we will to. If Dodge is the coach, then we will be coming off a good season this year, and will want to prove this year was no fluke. IF he is not, then the new coach and the team will want to usher in the start of a brand new winning era in the new stadium at UNT. We have quite a few graduates living in the Houston area, and I am sure Houston has its share in DFW. A couple of years ago, UH dang near filled up the lower bowl at the pit when we played them the day of their bowl game in Fort Worth. There was a lot of red! I think it is a great choice and I believe many would snicker if we scheduled a soft opponent.1 point

I think Houston is a great choice. A lot of people in that city do not even know we exist, and a win in that game could put us on the map for many. They will likely have a rookie at QB, while we will hopefully have a reasonably seasoned and talented QB in Thompson, to go along with an experienced receiving corp and a Heisman candidate at RB. Hopefully, they'll bring at least 5k up from Houston to add to the atmosphere. If we can just get that defense up to a top 75 level, I suspect we'll at least be competitive.1 point

I agree with SUMG. Houston is not some invincible team, and certainly not the next "up and coming Boise State". Their QB will be gone and the coach could be history as well. We're 1-1 against Houston, so at worst there's a 50-50 chance we can take them in Denton.1 point

Houston is a good opener. We have wanted these types of in-state games, plus there are many variables on both teams that makes the outcome difficult to call. The Indiana home and home series is also a winner and will be sure to bring a good crowd to Denton. For those with a penchant for trivia, Indiana and North Texas annually vie for the largest music school in the US. After building the music program at North Texas, the dean (Wilford Bain) then went to Indiana and did the same thing there. Things are looking up!1 point

IF anybody should be scared it should be Houston. Lance Dunbar will be a Senior and one of the nation's best RB's and they have a pathetic defense, a new QB, and possibly a new coach. We have nothing to lose assuming we can score some points and they don't kill our defense....1 point

Agree 100%, but the BMW (bitch-moan-whine) crowd will be wringing their hands and shaking their heads.1 point

I think it's great to have Indiana and Houston in home and gome series, but opening the new stadium with Houston is a terrible idea. I drink alot of green cool-aid, but the chances of us winning against a team that looks to be the next TCU, Boise, BYU, or Utah of college football, just don't seem good to me. I want to open the stadium with a win. Get the stadium built on time, and if we have to, schedule WKU for Sept. 3. I would think the Waters would rather us open this thing with a win. If the Houston game ends up being the opener, and they kick the crap out of us on ESPN (2, U, Classic, or the Ocho), many of you who are happy now will be calling for someones head.1 point

I really like the home-and-home with Indiana. A school from a BCS AQ conferences that we have a chance against, and get to have them in our place. I would love more along those lines.1 point

Dozer, the reference was in regard to me purchasing the thousand dollar packages in the opening thread in which the responses were that I was not supporting the program. Look, I agree that we need donations and donations of all amounts, but to simply say (not you) that because someone doesn't want to give thousands of dollars to the program they are not supporting it, just isn't fair. I support the program and go to just about every event, I have relatives that were a part of UNT athletics and we belong to the Letterman's club. All that to say that yes I am not going to dish out thousands on a premium package until we play better opponents. This is a fair statement. I am not saying that I/we are not going to be a part of UNT until this happens but you cannot deny that if all of a sudden we joined the CUSA next season that premium seat sales would go up. Were these people not supporting the program previously? To all: Please don't automatically jump to the conclusions that people are not giving to the program. It is possible to still support the program even though you are not exactly satisfied with where it currently is.1 point

Love you Harry, but that is comedy gold. Thanks for the laugh, and I will always forget how funny this remark was. I, too wish Nathan nothing but the best this year. Let's not forget, no shot at you Harry, but a year ago at this time he was considering not playing anymore. Thankfully he hung around, and I hope he is rewarded for his effort this year.1 point

What? Are you serious? The attitude of guys like Dumpsalot isn't what's 'holding this program back.' Just because some alumni choose to spend their money elsewhere isn't the reason this program is where it is. Too many on this board feel that if you're not buying club level seating, joining the mean green club, or playing in the gmg bowl, you're the problem. If I choose to support the program by paying to get into the tailgating area and throwing tortillas in the parking lot the entire game, so be it.1 point

Harry is much more tactful than I will be. Why don't you "Pony Up" and lend your support to SMU, or head to Cowtown and support TCU, or join the typical Texan that follows UT or A&M regardless of where you went to school? You are like that infamous Denton resident Bob Clifton that finds something wrong with everything. If it is so bad, then go elsewhere. It's not that difficult and would make many a person's life more enjoyable.1 point

It will be an awesome atmosphere, and our team should be motivated to win. We will becoming off of a New Orleans bowl win, and Houston will have a new qb.0 points

Gotta disagree. It's time to start raising expectations We are in year 4 now and your saying it's okay to just " hang " with fellow conference mates ? This is the Sunbelt , not the SEC. Those 2 are maybe top 50 , not top 10. I think we are past moral victories , especially when it's just Troy & MTSU. No reason we shouldn't be beating these teams by now. If we do lose to Troy & MTSU , Dodge better go 6 - 0 in all other conference games with 1 OOC victory. Only way 6 - 6 will cut it is if we beat K state in the finale & RV makes he decision on the high from that WIN0 points

I am so tired of reading this kind of stuff. What would you have Dodge do, forfiet. So, according to you, Dodge should tell the rest of his team "I'm sorry, but we will have to forfiet the remainder of the ballgame. Our starting QB and his backup are both out for the rest of the game. Defense, I know you just got a big stop. I know you are still playing hard at the end of a long season. I know you have battled back into a game you were waaay behind in. Sorry guys, but we really should just surrender." Instead, he is forced to burn a redshirt. The kid takes the team down the field, we score, and we are attempting an onside kick with a chance to win. If you had been there, and seen they way those kids fought back...well, since I'm pretty sure you were not there... and since you don't have to consider that on the pee wee team you coach...how about you just give it a break.-1 points

Yep. Comparing two guys who aren't playing quarterback for us next year. Gotta love the offseason. Who's a better tackler: Zombie Landry or Zombie Ditka? [Edit: not about any specific post, just the general madness that overtakes us so close to the season starting]-1 points

I said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not impressed with the home opener of UH. If we are going to get smoked by a team at least make it a name team. Not another non BCS level school, but at least we don't have to worry about their fans buying out the stadium.-2 points

Our first game in Fouts was a win against South Dakota. I'd like our first game in the new stadium to be a win also. The Cowboys first game in the Cowboys Stadium was a lose to the Giants.-2 points

I want to play Houston. I'm not saying that we shouldn't. I wish we played Houston every year. I'm from Houston. I'll make that trip every time. I'm saying we shouldn't make that game the first one in our new stadium. I'm not scared to play Houston. I'm being realistic. We've won five games in three years. A new stadium isn't going to change that over night. If we have another bad season, Houston is going to embarrass us. I don't want my first memories of a game in the new stadium to be a disaster like the Tulsa or the last Rice game. Based on our recent performance, the most likely opportunity opening against Houston presents is receiving a beat down as we open the new stadium on national T.V. No thanks. We play WKU at home in 2011. Finish the stadium on time and move the WKU game to Sept. 3. If we don't, odds are we will regret it.-3 points
