  1. I don't understand how anyone can defend DD or how he can defend himself and claim to be a supporter of the program. It's got nothing to do with how much you give. Some are defending DD for his inabilty to shell out all this money for premium seats but DD didn't say he couldn't afford the club seats. As a matter of fact, he will pay for club seats......"when UNT gets in a better conference." He makes a choice to NOT support the program because he doesn't like who UNT plays in conference. That is crazy to hear someone claim to support the program but only if they play better opponents. And then Eppy4life gets on here and says he's not the reason the program is where it is? I'll guarantee you DD is not the only person that feels that way. His attitude is the EXACT definition of not supporting the program. He has the money to give, he's just going to hold it until some other team besides UNT makes it worth his while. Get behind UNT. Regardless of who they're playing.

  2. Maybe while we're doing construction....we can borrow a crane to remove those giant chips on your shoulders. Just because some of us are encouraging fans to give....does not mean we're ridiculing those who don't. We all know that in any life, most of us go through various economic class levels. Speaking as someone who is buying club seats.....I couldn't have bought those most years of my adult life. Now I can. For now, anyway. Who knows in five years....I may be sitting in the V section. You as a fan, should be thrilled that folks are buying club seats. Hey I'm thrilled that the really big money people are buying suites. Hallelujah! The program does need money you know. So whatever you or anyone else does....if that's all you can...that's all we expect.

  3. Really a dumb post. To me a true fan Buys the tickets they can afford and contributes what they can Doesn't put conditions on their support (I won't do this until you do that, etc) Has pride in their school Backs their team during good times and bad May complain but doesn't just look for things to bitch and moan about

  5. Good article and I hope this is the year he realizes the success from his hard work. has he been perfect? No, but who is? He is a good man that represents our university very well and is a good man. I hope he is the coach here for a long time.

  6. Harry, if you refuse to remember, then how do you recall if the performance was outstanding or not? Start off the year right for us Nate! Make Parker wish he was a baseball player.

  7. An even more ridiculous post than the one from Daddy Dumpsalot. However, many many thanks for stepping up and buying your first set of season tickets. Welcome to the "largely republican" crowd as you call it. Your support is very much needed and appreciated. BTW, season ticket purchases are not democrat, republican, liberal, conservative, progressive or libertarian.....they are in fact, supporters of the Mean Green Nation. Welcome to that crowd!

  9. I think the point is if you don't want to buy them, fine, bit don't come on the fan website bashing the pricing, schedule, etc as a reason not to make the purchase. Just don't buy them. Sometimes we all forget this is a public site.

  11. I sure hope that skirt comes in green and white. Nobody has ever said they were a better fan than others. All that has been said, and it can't be argued, is that this program will only get where we ALL want it to be when we realize quality has a price tag. Let's not kid ourselves by suggesting that wearing our NT sweatshirt to the grocery store or throwing a tortilla OUTSIDE of the game will help 2-10 become a thing of the past. UT or OU would love for you to wear their sweatshirt to the grocery store. They already have millions of dollars.

  12. Riley makes plays happen. He may make more stupid mistakes the Tune, but he creates big plays. If his arm would have fully healed, then I really believe we would have seen one of the best QB's to ever come through North Texas.

  16. Dozer, the reference was in regard to me purchasing the thousand dollar packages in the opening thread in which the responses were that I was not supporting the program. Look, I agree that we need donations and donations of all amounts, but to simply say (not you) that because someone doesn't want to give thousands of dollars to the program they are not supporting it, just isn't fair. I support the program and go to just about every event, I have relatives that were a part of UNT athletics and we belong to the Letterman's club. All that to say that yes I am not going to dish out thousands on a premium package until we play better opponents. This is a fair statement. I am not saying that I/we are not going to be a part of UNT until this happens but you cannot deny that if all of a sudden we joined the CUSA next season that premium seat sales would go up. Were these people not supporting the program previously? To all: Please don't automatically jump to the conclusions that people are not giving to the program. It is possible to still support the program even though you are not exactly satisfied with where it currently is.

  17. Love you Harry, but that is comedy gold. Thanks for the laugh, and I will always forget how funny this remark was. I, too wish Nathan nothing but the best this year. Let's not forget, no shot at you Harry, but a year ago at this time he was considering not playing anymore. Thankfully he hung around, and I hope he is rewarded for his effort this year.

  18. I'm sorry if anything I've written was interpreted as me being upset with those who can and do contribute money. Of course I appreciate them. You guys give up certain things so you can give to your school. That takes some heart (and some understanding wives). I was simply trying to prove a point and clearly didn't do a good job. But thanks to Green Dozer's response for providing the perfect example.

  19. Flyer, can you reference this because while Baylor might not sell beer "in the stands", I bet it would not stop them in the SEC schools if there were not some kind of rule. Not saying you are right or wrong, I am asking because I don't know for sure.

  20. Then why do you come to the games at all? Seriously! Why don't you head over to Amon Carter or to Ford Stadium on Saturdays' this fall? Because we are simply not good enough for you here. And fwiw, we won't be playing in a BCS conference anytime soon. As for giving, surely you can afford to give $250 to the MGC. Why don't you start with the money from your faculty discount you get with your tix? You know you can pay your Mean Green Club donation out? You can also get more than one ticket with your donation? That doesn't happen at places like UT or these "better conference" schools that you aspire to. In the north end zone, at the top, it is $750 per seat donation to the Longhorn Foundation (which cannot be paid out), then you add your ticket price to that. The point is we cannot get to a better conference without donations. The problem I have with you is that you want to go to a better conference, but you also want to ride somebody's coat tails to get there. It takes the big and little donors for this thing to work. We cannot continue to rely on the student's fee to carry the program, and sorry, it alone is not going to lead us out of the place we are in on the college athletics landscape. So, your monthly payment would be $20.83 for your MGC donation. If you cannot budget that every month, then I would suggest going to Dave Ramsey's website and attending a Financial Peace University event on Saturdays' this fall instead of wasting what seems like your precious time at our games. 24. hall was not recruited as a star qb. he was a db given a chance to try qb first. riley became injured trying to do too much. but he doez not stink as a qb as houston put it. most losses were caused by the defense.

  25. What's even more interesting is that Mr. Rawlinson is excited enough about our upcoming season that he committed to this coaching staff right now probably believing that this same staff will be here when he finally gets here.

  26. Arkiesman, the seats in the Club Level are actually outside. There is lots of stuff inside (buffets, etc) but the seats to watch the game are outside.

  29. Well, back to the topic--these seats are going to be a great bargain in comparison to some other "premium" seats at other programs. Most programs charge the "one time" fee EVERY year, and the seats can only be renewed by paying that premium at season ticket renewal time, so for those who can get in--it's a steal. Thanks to those who clarified the tax question I had.

  30. Are we in LALA land? What world are you living in? That is 100% the reason the program is where it is. Money and support grow programs. Period. Wait.....OK, you got me and pulled me offsides. You're trying to be funny right?

  31. Harry is much more tactful than I will be. Why don't you "Pony Up" and lend your support to SMU, or head to Cowtown and support TCU, or join the typical Texan that follows UT or A&M regardless of where you went to school? You are like that infamous Denton resident Bob Clifton that finds something wrong with everything. If it is so bad, then go elsewhere. It's not that difficult and would make many a person's life more enjoyable.

  32. Sad comment and exactly the type of comment that reflects in part why UNT has struggled to fund athletics on a consistent basis. My guess is that folks with this attitude would never purchase Club Level seating even if UNT played in the Big XII. Excuses...excuses. OK, so you won't purchase Club level seating (even though your comments indicates that you are financially able to do so) as the requirement for you that UNT join a different conference. So, are you financially supporting the program at any level? If so...great, you are doing more than the majority of UNT alums and "fans", and you have my appreciation for what you are doing. It doesn't matter if one doesn't care to buy Club Level seating. I know several great Mean Green supporters who just don't want to participate in Club Level seating, but they support the program in many other ways including donations to the stadium project, season ticket purchases, membership in the Mean Green Club and membership in the Alumni Association. It isn't how you help it's IF you help that matters. Support the program how you wish...just support it...as was said here earlier...be part of the solution, not part of the problem. If you wish to be part of the problem, just keep your opinions to yourself and go away. The Mean Green Nation will be just fine without folks who want to be part of the problem.

  35. Absolutely stupid post. Obviously did not read or cannot comprehend what the vast majority of people urging fans to give WHAT THEY CAN (and only what they can) are trying to say. Maybe the arrow hit a bit close to home for you...I have no clue, but I would ask that you actually read posts in the future and do not attribute to the "masses" what you read from one posting.

  38. Way to go Eppy! You tell him! SUMG has been a die hard fan, like am sure you are, for many years. He also puts his money where his mouth is! So, when we reach whatever success we are seeking, you can thank people like him who have stuck this out thick and thin. And then you can let everybody know that you did not contribute one damned dime because you were using your money to buy tortillas and then throwing them.

  39. I did see the Ball State game...gave me hope, which quickly dissipated. You can't play well in one game , then turnover the ball multiple times in other games and be considered a good QB....what good does a running back do for you if he is a great rusher and is always turning the ball over and killing drives (and spirits). Again, I am sure RD is a nice guy and this is only college football...not life and death, just a game, but a qb in this game he is not. Lack of consistancy all round...except in maybe the turnover part.

  41. First off...again...for some reason people on here seem to think that by not spending the most money and getting the most expensive packages they are not "supporting" the university as much as others. This is not the case at all. I would say keep your $10K seats and just bring 10 extra people with you to the game. And most likely the reason the students/alumni discounted our winning seasons is because they saw the reality of the conference we were in. This reality that many on here overlook.

  42. I watched it...but I also watched Middle Tenn, Army, ULL and ULM where in each game he threw 3 interceptions. We cannot win games no matter how much our defense improves if games like this occur again. I don't bash Reilly but I cannot see how you are so quick to thumbs down a guy for saying what so many are thinking....when do we get a star QB like Hall again?

  45. I can't believe I'm going to agree with anything written by DD, but I think he is right on the point highlighted above. Not everyone can afford club seats, $500 plus donations to the Mean Green Club or season tickets to the games. This is especially true for recent graduates. Just wearing a NT sweatshirt and telling people you support the team helps with minimal cost. But when you say you aren't going to watch the teams in the Sunbelt Conference I have to point out how terrible the games were when we were in the Big West and had teams like Boise, Nevada, Utah State and Idaho coming to town. Those games were just awful. The Sunbelt is a huge improvement.

  46. From the original post, it appears the Rice Media Guide lists the record of 2-0 Rice. We beat them 33-17 in Houston on 11-19-1988. Link here. Of course we were then shut out by 1AA Marshall the next game.
