Yeah....by all means let's keep waiting on that student fee to bail us out. This is what happens when you have one of the cheapest fanbases in intercollegiate athletics. We have people who won't join the Mean Green Club; we have fans that get in the Mean Green Club and stay at the same level for 25 years; we have fans that have bitched and moaned about wanting a stadium for years, and now that they have the opportunity to donate to a stadium fund, still find an excuse not to give. Guess what? My Wal-Mart credit card....doesn't work at Nieman's. So as long as we want cheap intercollegiate athletics....that's what we'll have.4 points

If we're afraid to play a FCS team, we need to fold our tent and slip out of town at midnight. Geeze4 points

Was Dickey really that good to win 4 straight conference titles and everyone else was that bad? Is Dodge really no that bad and everyone else is really that good? 2001-02 5-6 loss bowl game vs. Colorado St. 5-7 Conference Champs (Dickey) 2002-03 7-5 won bowl game vs. Cinncinnati 8-5 Conference Champs (Dickey) 2003-04 9-3 loss bowl game vs. Memphis 9-4 Conference Champs (Dickey) 2004-05 7-4 loss bowl game vs. Southern Miss 7-5 Conference Champs (Dickey) 2005-06 2-9 (Dickey) 2006-07 3-9 (Dickey) 2007-08 2-10 (Dodge) 2008-09 1-11 (Dodge) 2009-10 2-10 (Dodge) 2010-11 5-7 (prediction) Dodge avg (2 wins) Canalas (will add 2 wins) DeLoach (will add 1 win) 5 win total. 2011-12 7-4 (prediction) Canalas takes over as Head Coach for UNT (FIRST WINNING SEASON IN 7 YEARS) [Possible bowl game invite] 2012-2013 9-3 (Canalas) bowl win game vs. Tulsa 10-3 Then lose Canalas to a bigger school in PAC ?? conference.1 point

I've seen the articles mentioning Jeff Bryant as a possible replacement, and that seems like the most likely scenario, but here are three other names to consider: - Keith Uperesa - Mike Simmonds - Larry Scott **4 candidates for North Texas OL coach** Thoughts?1 point

Tap the breaks...maybe Chico and Leftwich just could not see eye to eye and the Tulsa thing jumped up. Just a thought.1 point

Maybe Chico Canales could talk one of his former coworkers into leaving FCS Indiana State to join him in Denton: Former USF offensive line coach now at Indiana State And he's a hero. Mike Simmonds helped man save drowning son1 point

NOW ... you can call me MAC, or you can call me WAC, or you can call me MWC. But you doesn't have to call me FCS!! REALLY! We must open with a team we could beat that would give us some props from the public. The headlines would read "UNT Blows First Game In New Stadium To Spunky Little (insert FCS team here)" if we schedule an FCS team and lose. Conversely, the headlines would read "UNT Inflicts Loss On (insert FCS team here) As Expected; REAL Test To Come Next Week" if we win. WAY TOO MUCH DOWNSIDE. Until our program is reestablished and recognized as such around the country, we should be playing 100% FBS teams. There are beatable FBS teams out there that people have heard of...find one. Montana will be playing @ Tenn , not UNT. I don't mind playing a FCS team , but they better be sure we win that game. Give me Texas Southern or a PV a&M. We could get off on the right foot and all be treated to a great half time show. Just don't bring Montana to Denton , that game might get ugly1 point

I can understand keeping everything the same and starting new in the stadium next year. I also think green helmets with the new logo are the way to go.1 point

After playing for both men I believe they are both extreemly skilled football minds, just on two complete extreems of the spectrum. They both have their flaws though, and have suffered because of them. I would like to argue the comment that dickey lacked skilled qb's though. Scott Hall or Andrew Smith could have run dodges offense better than anyone he's recruited or played so far. But for the sake of my Alma mater I hope to god we win some games this year! Go Mean Green!!!1 point

Why wasn't it realistic? Do kids not choose schools because they are closer to home? Does NT not offer a wide array of undergraduate degree options, one of which might fit a kid perfectly? Is NT not a beautiful campus? We have PLENTY to sell. Ever notice the phenomenon where a gorgeous girl is with a guy who seems out of her league? Sometimes it's because he....asked.1 point

I would also think that a Todd-Dodge-worn playcalling armband would also fetch a decent amount.1 point

Yes, if he is interested in coming to UNT, I'd definitely be in favor of giving him a second chance. However, it's very doubtful he'd consider UNT, even in his current situation. D.J. Jones was the workhorse in the Denison HS football team in 2008 and 2009. He rushed for over 5,000 yards in 2 1/2 seasons and added an additional 600 yards receiving for a combined 75 TDs. If I recall correctly, he also had several punt and/or kick-off returns for TDs. He was rated 4 stars/5.8, ranked #27 RB in the nation and 48 best player in Texas by Rivals. In addition to his offer by A&M, he had offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Kansas, SMU and Texas Tech. I really wish we could have signed his backfield companion, Denison HS QB Jordan Taylor, last year, but he signed with Rice. Taylor would have given us leverage for Jones. I think it's funny how someone inevitably poses the question about every transfer and/or player that is kicked off a team in the fashion of would/should we accept this player - and no offense to you Marty - it's a legitimate question. I just think we're delusional to think we're in a position to turn away 4-star prospects because of misdemeanors and/or character flaws. We should be so lucky to have D.J. Jones want to come to UNT. Unless a kid has committed a felony, has a history of severe substance abuse and/or has serious personality flaws, I don't think there's any question that UNT should welcome any 5, 4, or even 3-star football prospects with open arms. Remember, these are 17 and 18 year old kids. They're going to make mistakes. We all have. God knows I've made my share. I just thank Him that none of my mistakes were too severe. My parents went to Denison HS so I pay a good deal of attention to their football team. I saw D. J. play a few times and he is an awesome athlete. I can't speak to his character because I didn't follow the team closely enough to know all those details but he did seem to get along well with his team mates and coaches.1 point

only thing i can think of, this staff is unsure if they will be back after this season, if Tulsa offered him a deal for 2 or 3 years, at least he knows he has a job after this season....not saying its right for him to bail so close to the season or that im happy...because this truly sucks...but if this is why it happened i can at least understand it.0 points

Shame...I worked at Hooya for my first 4 years of school...great place to work, great food. I feel really bad for the current owner Jesus...he was the head cook the entire time I worked there, saving up money to eventually buy the place and make it his family business.-1 points

Why are they sooooooooo snobby? They think their poop smells like roses. How come they never let me sit with them in the lunchroom and date all those other skanks instead of me. Let's face it, we are their bottom b!+<#. It sucks but we just aren't that pretty in our adolescent 15th year back in D1. It's allright though, don't cry yourself to sleep staring at your Justin Bieber and Tim Tebo posters. In 10 years we will develope and mature and get a ton of plastic surgery, then we will be to hot for their ass and they will get to watch us go on dates with all their friends. You just wait.-1 points

He says it is Montana in the title, but doesn't talk about that game in the main article? I don't like playing a FCS team, especially in the opening game of the new stadium. Don't like it at all.-1 points

That makes sense. I should have clicked the linked story. That is my biggest fear in playing a FCS team right now. I don't think we are in that position to take that risk. Plus, especially for the 1st game in the new stadium, I want a team that we can get excited about playing and beating.-1 points

I seem to remember seeing something recently that NT has 5 open ships based on Maximimun ships...it will be interesting to see who gets those ships...who transfers...Nt has been so good obtaining late transfer players-2 points

One difference between you and me is that I always look on the positive things that happen, not the bad things. Last year NT had 5 transfers and 2 are still listed on our current roster...LB Julian Herron from SMU (5* rating by Max Emfinger 2* by Rivals coming out out HS) and WR Tyler Stradford from University of Oklahoma (3*by Rivals coming out of HS) Both will get playing time this year... Another thing NT is good at is late recruiting well after signing day has passed. Last year: 1. OG Keenan Flax, 2. SDE La Christopher Anyiam, Allen HS, 3. JC LB Sean January Scottsdale AZ CC and 4. DE KC OBI from Mission Hills CA...who played last year. Flax, Anyiam and January as well as OBI are all still on the roster. All 4 are quality signees. This year NT already sined a late Tight end..Tanner Smith from FW Nolan HS.-2 points

If you guys are looking for a FCS team that will bring a good crowd then you should invite TXST. We typicaly bring 5k or more fans to our FBS games.-3 points
