One difference between you and me is that I always look on the positive things that happen, not the bad things. Last year NT had 5 transfers and 2 are still listed on our current roster...LB Julian Herron from SMU (5* rating by Max Emfinger 2* by Rivals coming out out HS) and WR Tyler Stradford from University of Oklahoma (3*by Rivals coming out of HS) Both will get playing time this year... Another thing NT is good at is late recruiting well after signing day has passed. Last year: 1. OG Keenan Flax, 2. SDE La Christopher Anyiam, Allen HS, 3. JC LB Sean January Scottsdale AZ CC and 4. DE KC OBI from Mission Hills CA...who played last year. Flax, Anyiam and January as well as OBI are all still on the roster. All 4 are quality signees. This year NT already sined a late Tight end..Tanner Smith from FW Nolan HS.2 points

I know someone who was at this wedding. He said the part where McCoy gently caresses Shipley's cheek and whispers "I'll be thinking of you every time.." while pointing at his wife was excluded from the video.2 points

I know everyone loves to bitch and moan about nothing ever getting done, or people holding up progress in Denton, and I'm not one of those guys, but do we really have to kill Denton's only college bar scene? I love the idea of Rayzor Ranch. The 288 development is awesome, I'm sure other things I'm not aware of are great, but do we really have to drop another University Courtyards or Gateway right in the middle of Fry? You know what residential areas necessitate? Quiet. You know what a legitimate bar scene creates? Noise, lots of noise. Great, the half sized Cool Beans gets to remain.... Kiss their live music shows from the roof goodbye. Know what else residential areas necessitate? Lots of parking. Kiss drive up parking on Fry St goodbye. It's great that The Tomato is coming back, but anyone thinking it's gonna be the old Tomato they loved (other than the actual Pizza) will be sorely mistaken I assume. It sounds to me like we're trying to turn Fry into a miniature version of the square. Why do we need two squares? Lame as balls.2 points

They beat a WAC team back in 2007. A WAC TEAM!!! Who doesn't want to associate with that sort of excellence?1 point

Dickey didn't really win--he had 3 winning seasons out of 9. Dodge hasn't come even close to finishing wihtin miles of .500. They both have been severe disappointments in my mind. It doesn't always have to be a comparison between the two. Neither have really fit at UNT, for different reasons. Really, other than Fry and Corky Nelson, no coach has had much success at UNT of significant note over the last 35 years or so. But, in their defense, the administration, alumni, and students didn't really help on this until the last 8 years or so.1 point

That would be Belo. Don't confuse Emmitt with the fact that the guy he "loves to hate" really doesn't OWN the DRC any longer and hasn't for some time. However, the son is still on the management team and editorial board as I recall. I get Emmit's "love to hate" deal as it would be ever so much better to have a MEAN GREEN person in that position. But all through the years the DRC has supported the Mean green and has done a nice job of reporting on the "doings" at UNT overall...with little to no mention of OSU. The guy graduated from OSU and loves the university. It would be nice if a few more UNT alums would show the same love for UNT. It is fine with me if the guy supports the school from which he graduated and wears their colors as often as he likes. Where is the problem with that? He is not anti-UNT by the way as he is a Denton guy and knows how important Denton is to the DRC and his home town. The guy lives in Denton and raises his family there.1 point

The only way to figure this out for sure would be to put them both in the Octagon...a good cage match always solves things.1 point

Apt comparison. Reagan had multiple heart attacks while in office and Dodge was born a Kenyan Muslim.1 point

This is an older article form when Gaines was in HS, but if you glance over the list of players there are some absolute studs on those lists(s). 5 star recruits who are donning rosters as we speak at schools like USC, Oregon, UCLA, Oklahoma, and Utah to name a few.1 point

I seem to remember seeing something recently that NT has 5 open ships based on Maximimun ships...it will be interesting to see who gets those ships...who transfers...Nt has been so good obtaining late transfer players1 point

North Texas was a last minute back-up school for me after some other options fell through...I ended up falling in love with the school and Denton and am very thankful for everything UNT has done for me. In that vain...give me College of San Francisco transfer DE Frank Gaines.1 point

She doesn't have to worry about fielding her position....because batters wont be hitting her stuff....BOOYAH!1 point

Secretly, emmitt is playing this over and over, memorizing the lyrics and tapping his foot in time with this tune.1 point

The uniqueness of her delivery may help with her effectiveness, but I agree that it does not put her in the position to field her position.1 point

An article on youth sports in today's (7/21/10) "Wall Street Journal" quotes the NCAA as saying, "Only about 3% to 6% of high school basketball, football, baseball and soccer players make it to a college team. Only 2% of high school athletes are awarded college athletic scholarships. Far more money is available for academic scholarships. And only 1% to 9% of college athletes make it to the pros." Pretty slim odds. Says a good deal about the level of skills those athletes that do make it to the college sports scene possess, but also says that one should concentrate on their studies as well if they want a college scholarship. When you narrow it down, the odds of a college scholarship are pretty small and then, even if you get a college scholarship, the odds of making it to the pros is minuscule at best.1 point

A murder trail is quite different from receiving gifts, but the catch is this. No matter how many people think O.J. might have done it, the guy was still found innocent. On the other hand, it's a fact that Bush and the school did wrong. I do think the Heisman Committee should take away Bush's trophy though. If he wasn't eligible then whatever he did on the field shouldn't be counted.1 point

Seems like a fair assessment. My question for the board is 4-8, bringing Dodge to a 9-39 over 4 years enough to keep the guy?1 point

Article on the Bleacher Report, "2010 Non-BCS Conference Profiles: Sun Belt Conference http://bleacherreport.com/sun-belt-football Check out North Texas RB, "Lamar Dunbar", who is mentioned twice in the story. Geez! One of the very best RB's in the country and the Bleacher Report cannot report Dunbar's name correctly! IMHO, this article confirms to me the Bleacher Report is about as useful as screen doors on a submarine.0 points

not to get ahead of myself, but will 2011 be a rebuilding year for our head foot ball coach, whoever he is? i think we have about 23 seniors on this team, which is 1st or 2nd in belt, and are still picked next to last in conference play by most pollsters. this doesn't say much for the quality of this class, or t.d.'s recruiting.am i missing something here?0 points

All of your preferences being duly noted (and given their requisite weight...whatever that is) this guy has been a very good neighbor and is an all-around cool guy. He'll more than likely be at my tailgate that game so you can all feel free to come by and see that he's a swell fella. Not to mention the couple other games I'm gonna try to drag him to. Besides, if this guy sporting HIS school's colors gives you such heartburn then I'm sure you've all made every effort to remove the butnt orange from the seats near the 50 yard line...like say the guy whose family owns the DRC, right?0 points

I love you. And don't forget the development around Unicorn Lake...I dig that too. Worse than another version of the square, this sounds a lot more like Uptown...and if thats what was planned for Rayzor Ranch, or they wanted something similar...in Uptown (Denton) I'd be all for that as well. The problem that many of us have is in placing yet another boring, cookie-cutter apartment/retail complex smack dab in the heart of a historical district. Thanks in large part to places like Hailey's, Rubber Gloves and the growth off Industrial, Denton is becoming more and more recognized for its cultural and music scene. Reviving it's most renowned area in a way more befitting of that area's aesthetic needs to be the priority for a competent city planner. Real cities and towns recognize that there are more important things than maximizing "tax revenue." Some of the best real estate in New York City is Central Park. Think anyone wants to build the next Jefferson Common over-looking Turtle Pond?0 points

I'd say just the opposite. You'll have around 700 people, mostly college students or college age people, moving onto the street. With the retail that is already in the area plus the forthcoming retail those 700 people plus their friends will add a significant amount of energy to the area.-1 points

In 1989, the Michigan Wolverines won the NCAA tournament led by Glen Rice and Rumeal Robinson. 19 years later, Rice was arrested for felony battery. A year after that, Robinson was arrested for bank fraud, bribery, wire fraud, and a host of other felonies. He conned his own mother into using her house as collateral for a loan that he wound up defaulting on. That championship banner still hangs proudly. A few years after the championship, the Fab 5 team got some illegal benefits from a booster. The school vacated two championship appearances, conference championships, and a host of other honors and awards connected to the booster scandal. It's not about what sort of shitbags the players wound up being decades later... It's about what they did while they were there. Just like O.J. is still in the NFL Hall of Fame (and his NFL HOF biography mentions the 2000 yard season but nothing about murder allegations), he's still the Heisman winner. I wouldn't honor the guy at halftime if I were USC, but the Heisman is still legit.-1 points
