If we're afraid to schedule a FCS team (SFA, Texas State, etc) to open the stadium before our Sept. 10th game with Houston, we need to fold our tent and slink quietly out of town in the dark of night. Full house for the opener vs a FCS team. Full house for our 1-0 team vs Houston the following week. Two good crowds should negate the need for the typicial "opportunity game" road opener. It's time to think positive and not dwell on worst case scenarios and what ifs.2 points

Seriously--you wouldn't take a 2 for 1 with OU, even if the one were at new Fouts? Every season as far back as I can remember, we have played at least 1 big-name OOC away game--often 2 or 3--with no return game. Yes, ultimately I would like to get to the point of being a UT or Notre Dame where we are in the driver's seat as far as choosing whom, when, and where we play. But for the immediate future, 2 for 1's with the big boys would be a huge improvement.2 points

Seriously, if we refuse to schedule a game against Sam Houston because we MIGHT lose then things are worse than I feared.2 points

Two for us in the green section. I'll just drive my truck 5 more years. I never thought I would see a new stadium. No way we were going to pass this up. By the way, I'm VERY fortunate, my wife was all for it!2 points

The bowl trip...by a landslide. Look, a win over either K-state or Clemson is atomatically put into the "fluke" category without a successful (bowl) season. Want proof? Ask any DFW sports fan who isn't a fan of the SBC this question..."Who won the game between ULL and k-state last year"? After they say "who's ill?" they'll probably guess k-state.1 point

The new coach to go with the new stadium is the best thing that is going to happen to the team this season.1 point

Hmm...that mindset/sense of entitlement, especially as it relates to the expectations of governmental financial support, coupled with a lack of understanding fundamental economic rules, seems awfully familiar to me. On a side note, I saw that shunned 2010 SMU recruit, Jeremy Hall, will be attending UTSA on a scholarship and will be playing football and baseball for the Roadrunners.1 point

But like I tell my wife, "Why would you want to do anything other than go to a Mean Green game?" I'm thinking about this for my wife: "You want us to spend more time together right? Well, on Saturdays I'll be in the club section at the new mean green stadium. Logically, if you want us to spend more time together, shouldn't you be in the club section as well?" Will I get punched in the head?1 point

My school, and those that support it, stepped up and built us a new stadium. Now we have to do our part to pay for it. I hope is that those of us that put up the jack for club seats will enable the university to continue a pricing strategy that allows casual, "off the street" or non-UNT affiliated fans to be able to attend games at a reasonable price, i.e. family section, etc. Of the group of 20-25 with whom we typically tailgate and attend games, at least half did not go to NT and attend because they enjoy being with friends, seeing college football at a price they percieve to be a good value. I think we will get new fans that want to see football, hopefully winning football, in a first-class facility. But I do think there is a contingent of fans described above. To maximize "butts in seats," I look forward to seeing a price structure that can accommodate the high-toned all the way down to steerage. GMG1 point

History could repeat itself by our continuing to miss out on opportunities for advancement. And yes, I've been to both El Paso and San Antonio, as I have lived in both cities for extended periods of time. How about you? And yes again, UTSA has trouble getting coverage in the San Antonio media, but maybe that has something to do with the fact that they do not even have a football team and play other sports in a mediocre conference? Or did UTSA surreptitiously create a FBS program while no one was watching? Btw, thanks for your Chamber of Commerce speech on the qualities of San Antonio. I never would have known they had such things.1 point

I'm donating the proceeds of every fifth sale I close this year. But, since each company I'm contracted with pays commissions differently, I'm putting all of the money into a separate account and making one big donation in January 2011. Other than that, it seems we have to do what everyone else does - get on the phone and dial for dollars. Since donating to Tulsa in December, they've called me at least quarterly, and mailed and e-mailed me monthly. They want that 2010-2011 pledge! All of their stuff is slick, colorful, and pretty detailed. It's hard to say no. But, with the hiring of Chico Canales I'm 164% behind this thing now! I suggest the following (some even seriously): -Cold calling (hey, it sucks to have people tell you to f-off...but, that's sales. If 2% of the people give, it makes up for the 98% f-offs! Some $$ is more than No $$.) -Information packets handed out at every f-ing UNT event held anywhere within a six continent radius of Denton! Jazz shows. Packets at the door. Dance thingys. Packets at the door. Volleyball games. Packets at the door. Sack races. Packets at the door. -Send donation cards to the parents/home address of every student. Hit the students up in their welcome packs. -Rent a gorilla outfit and have someone dress up in it with a sign that says "Donate For The New Stadium" and have him/her jumping around like a gorilla at the entrance to the parking lot. This would be good practice for theatre students and a good way to get them involved in the school spirit side of things. -Hold a bake sale whereby people collecting money for UNT bake things and sell them to people who like to eat baked goods. -Auction off/sell every bit of the Fouts Field during the season! Put a suggested price list in the program and online. Make sure someone with decent accounting/receivables skills can keep an accurate list of who paid you for what. Put everything up! Lockers. Stadium bleachers. Old equipment. Dead crickets. Everything! -Open a clandestine strip club next to the beer barn and charge cover at the door, then use the cover money for proceeds to build the stadium. -Break into a neighbor's house while they are away and steal some of their firearms and panty hose. Put the panty hose on your head and hold up various banks and retail establishments. Use the loot to help pay for the stadium. -Start an internet gambling site offshore, open a bank account on a small, carribean island, and launder the money through it to help pay for the stadium. -When you are partying on the weekends, drink one beer out of a can, then go to the bathroom and keep refilling it with water. You'll stay sober and eventually people will begin to get drunk and pass out. When they do, rife through their wallets and take some cash to help pay for the stadium.1 point

I happen to know that March 14 is the deadline to file for Denton city council election. I hope someone who is pro-UNT and pro-growth runs against Chris Watts. Watts doesn't even live in Denton any more... he keeps a house and has mail delivered, but he lives in Gainesville.1 point

Have you ever said anything that makes sense? UNT should recruit nationally like Nebraska and Oklahoma? Those schools don't recruit players they select them.-1 points

How about when the students actually start caring as well???? I still get mad walking around the campus seeing so many students wearing crap from other colleges and universities! Alums seem to outnumber students at every football and basketball game. That should never be the case. Increased support from both areas is what UNT needs. Alums should definitely donate more $$$$ than students to the program, but students should outnumber alums at all games and should be wearing UNT gear not some other random school's stuff.-1 points
