I'm posting this here because I know this forum gets read the most. If y'all feel the need to move it that's ok. This is pretty cool and I thought maybe a few people here would be interested. Especially those that have older children. Mine are a little too young as the age limit is 10 or older. They need extras for the filming of Friday Night Lights at the Cotton Bowl and instead of getting paid they will be making donations to Operation Kindness if you go as a representative of their group. With the economic downturn over the past few years many people make their first budget cuts by letting go of their animals. Operation Kindness is the largest NO KILL animal shelter in North TX and they have taken on quite a lot of animals over the past few years. If you could do this it would be a very cool experience and for a great cause all at the same time! Thanks! Sam Greetings All: Please read below, be an extra on TV and help the animals at the same time! This is a great opportunity for all of our YMSL and NCL folks! “Friday Night Lights” is the hit DirecTV/NBC television series from acclaimed Writer/Director Peter Berg. The story behind the series – In Dillon, Texas, high school football isn’t just a sport, it’s a way of life. It is a family drama that not only focuses on football, but on the lives, loves and goals of people in a small Texas town. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Volunteer EXTRAS to play FANS in the football stands. We are looking for men, women and children in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Age limit is restricted to 10 years and older. FILMING DATES We will be filming on BOTH Friday 7/16/10 and Saturday 7/17/10. You are invited to participate on either one or both of these dates. WHERE WILL FILMING TAKE PLACE The Cotton Bowl – 3750 Midway Plaza, Dallas, TX 75210 (located at Fair Park) HOW MUCH TIME IS REQUIRED You will be expected to stay with us for the duration of our filming day, which can last anywhere from 6-10 hours. Start time is still TBD but depending on start, could last as late as 10:00pm on each day. HOW YOUR ORGANIZATION WILL BENEFIT For each person that attends as a representative of your group, a $20.00 per person donation will be made to Operation Kindness. WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED We will provide snacks and beverages for everyone throughout the day. After four (4) to six (6) hours of work, box lunches will also be provided. You are also welcome to bring food/drink with you to the stadium. During the day, there will be giveaways and raffles for great prizes. You will also get the chance to see your favorite “FNL” actors and possibly see yourself on NBC/DirecTV television!! If you are interested, please email Julie at jgoff@operationkindness.org.2 points

I usually get "don't you think that's a little inappropriate for this Quinceanera?" Then I tell them that 1) I don't know what a quinceanera is and 2) If I had, I might've worn pants. Then I think maybe they're talking about the lack of pants. Then I make pants out of toilet paper in the bathroom. Then I get kicked out of the Sheraton. Point being, people are intolerant, and I still wear it.2 points

I have a BBA from NT and a JD from Tech. When people ask me where I went to school, and I respond, they always say "So you are a Tech fan", and I always respond that I could care less about Tech sports and I am a Mean Green club member and season ticket holder of FB and BB at NT. What pisses me off is that many of these people have degrees from NT. If it is any consolation, I know two local lawyers who are Texas State and Texas A&M grads and both have already bought club seats for the new stadium.2 points

1-3. I've been asked all of those. 4. I would have cancelled my order, reminded the "artist" that NT and the students support all the businesses of Denton, and walked out. 5. I don't have that ring, but I do often wear a NT cap or visor and get comments about the nice looking logo. 6. Have been asked this, but without the rolling eyes. I usually answer by letting them know it is where I graduated from and it is my school. Usually an indirect shot at the logo on their hat!2 points

It is the offseason, so I wanted to hear from some of you other diehards who often wear your UNT gear. I have 28 UNT caps so I most often wear a UNT cap, and always wear my UNT ring. I also live here in Denton. Now, since this is the home of our university, you would not think it strange to have on UNT gear, but here are questions I get on a regular basis: 1) Do you work at North Texas? 2) Are you a coach at North Texas? 3) Do you teach at the college? 4) My son had on his North Texas shirt in Subway one day, and the "sandwich artist" told him he should be ashamed to wear it. (Yes, here in Denton). *He did walk out, he is a student at UNT. Now, he eats at New York Subway as he was taught, lesson learned (LOL) 5) Wearing a UNT cap, I was asked if my UNT ring was an aggie ring. My UNT ring has a star w/ a green stone. This was by a UNT student at Rudy's, so I explained that while many Aggie rings have the star, our (UNT's) ring is the only one in Texas that is allowed to have a stone in it. At least, that is what I have been told. 6) Your a fan of North Texas? (while rolling their eyes and looking at me like I don't have a life). Now, I have worn another college team's cap, though not often, and never do I get a comment. I don't let it bother me any more, I just tell them I have pride in the place where I went to school, and good things are really happening. These are just a few questions I am asked on a regular basis. No, they do not bother me, but it is just weird living in Denton and getting these questions. When traveling outside of Denton, and I still wear a UNT cap then, comments are positive. Met a barista in downtown Indianapolis who went to UNT. Lots of comments about the music school. What about you, what kind of comments do you get?1 point

I agree, but he should be given a bit of "counseling" from his boss. To say something like that is just plain STUPID and definitely not good for the hotel's business. Any Denton businessperson who let's this stuff pass from an employee is making a big mistake in my opinion. UNT is a big reason the hotel exists in the first place. Like it or not, UNT and TWU both generate a lot of occupancy for the local hotels. Employees saying negative things about one of the area's largest employers (whether they attend either of the universities or not) is simply BAD BUSINESS!1 point

Once I was wearing a North Texas Football shirt and a guy asked me why I was wearing it. I replied becuase that's where I went to school and I'm a fan. He then said, "are you like their only fan." sarcastically. He was a UNT student at the time also.1 point

How many football fans make it their personal cross to demonstrate every great play that happened in the Colts/Bears Super Bowl and tell you "you just don't get it." At this point, it is what it is.1 point

I actually had a couple of guy's try to steal my UNT SOW hat at the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Greenville Ave. this year! I've never had any negative comments about my UNT attire but I've had to endure many snickers, rolling eyes and apologies during football season when asked the question, "Where did you go to school?" Over the last several years, I too have noticed quite a few more people wearing UNT apparel outside of Denton, while shopping, etc - outside of the normal parameters you'd expect to see UNT gear. On a side note, I receive far more questions when I wear my Wrigley Field t-shirt than I ever get when I wear UNT stuff. Usually, it's an excited, "Are you from Chicago?" And a subsequent look of disappointment when I tell them no. I never knew we had so many Chicagoans in the area.1 point

Two stories: The bad- Attending the UNT vs. OU game in 2003. Chatting it up with 3 OU fans outside the stadium when 2 of them tell me that the 3rd is a UNT grad. I look at the guy, "Grad school at OU?", he replies "No". "Law school?", "No, I just like OU." I then proceeded to light into him while his friends stand there and laughed at him. He scurried away with his tail between his legs. The good- Granbury July 4 parade and festival on the square wearing a UNT shirt. I go into one of the vender booths displaying different drawings, which included the artist drawings of different universities in Texas (The collage type drawing with different venues from the same college on one drawing). Present are the typical UT, Tech, TA&M, Baylor. I begin to gripe to my date about the typical no UNT representation. The artist, who happened to be standing behind me, quickly corrected me and reach behind some of the other school's drawings and produced a UNT drawing. Needing something to add to my office, I bought it on the spot. I couldn't believe that there was actually something representing UNT. The drawing has the Dillo, admin bldg, info sciences bldg, Union bldg, Envir. Ed. Science and Tech bldg, and bad Fouts Field, with the Eagle Statue as the centerpiece. Yes, I informed the artist that for his next rendition, he should go online and look at the new stadium. When I wore the UNT battle flag (Green and White Texas flag) at the Winter Olympics, I got many inquiries;)1 point

Mostly positive comments but last time I wore my SOW cap, my father in law(big UT fan) asked when did I become such a big Philly fan.1 point

I wear North Texas shirts all the time. My wife says that's all I wear. I tell her we need all the exposure we can get. People ask if I am a student, or if I play for the team, but I never get negative comments. I work down in Fort Worth, out by TCU, and many of those students give me dirty looks for wearing UNT shirts at and around their campus. I live in Argyle and when I'm in Denton I see more and more people wearing Mean Green shirts. Many more then I did just 2 years ago, and serveral more then 5-7 years ago.1 point

Sorry, but in the late 80's/early 90's, Frisco was a small farming community with a 2A High School, nobody knew where Allen was and Plano was about the size of Denton. You mention malls? Denton built the Golden Triangle Mall and Frisco courted Stonebriar. Any guess on who won that battle? Some other communities to add in to this discussion. Coppell was nothing but farm/ranch land, as was Colleyville, Southlake, Keller and Roanoke. Grapevine was a quaint little town on the northen edge of DFW airport and Flower Mound was beautiful ranchland west of Lewisville. Face it, everyone of these communities has passed Denton by because Denton is not proactive, not pro-business and has been touting its potential for years. Denton has had every opportunity to grow as the communities listed above, yet they end up with the reputation as being difficult to work with.1 point

Everytime a UT-OU Watching Party (or any watching party at that) is on I show up in UNT gear...the common response from those there is laughter. But when I count that the people in the room went to 1.) Community College for maybe a couple semesters (multiple people) 2.) Stephen F. Austin 3.) Tech (never graduated) after 3 other schools they couldn't hack at 4.) Random Nursing Schools (I have some friends who are Murses or Male Nurses) 5.) or the worst of the worst....those that went to UTEP, UTSA, UTA, UT Pan American or TAMU-Commerce, TAMU-Galveston, TAMU-Corpus who have actually convinced themselves that their "parent school" is deeply connected with their "satellite campus" (*insert self-inflicted gunshot to the face) I quickly remind those in the room that their schools are both sub-par to UNT and lack any real notoriety to those that give two craps (i.e. me) Bandwagoners are the worst type of person to watch sports with.... could never figure out how others can't see how lame they are for having "their favorite team" and trying to justify it with "oh well it's been that way since I was a kid" as if that makes it any more logical for you to try and swipe at me. Needless to say...I come into the room loaded to the hilt with ammo for just about anyone gaulish enough to open their mouth.1 point

I like TCU's uni's (home) from most years but liked both their uni's from late last year. I was in the minority. They had the scaly look on the uni's and the blood lines on the helmets. Navy has great uniforms too. Classic IMO.1 point

I guy who worked at the Home Depot in Hawthorne, NY said "Go Mean Green" when I was wearing my North Texas Alumni shirt. I said it back to him, but I was in a hurry and didn't have a chance to talk to him and hear his story. Pretty cool that there is a fan or 2 up here though.1 point

I wear UNT items quite often and I can recall VERY few negative comments. Most even remotely negative are from fans of other universities whom we play or have recently played. I find they are mostly in fun and just meant to be between two college sports fans. I don't get mad about it as I often have something in kind to say in return. Just having some fun and that's the way i see the comments from other fans. Now the comment from the Subway guy is different...I would have cancelled the order and walked out, but I would have gone a bit further. I would have called back and asked to speak to the owner...not the manager as you never know who that is. I would assume the owner would be interested in knowing that he has an employee that is losing him/her business. I would not try to get the offending employee fired as jobs can be tough for some to come by and that kid/person is obviously "less than intelligent", but I would want the owner to let him know that is a stupid thing to say to a customer wearing Mean Green gear. The employee may be needing a little "education". I am always proud to wear Mean Green/UNT gear...wherever I am. Was in Pensacola, Fl this last weekend for "Blue Angles Weekend" and was wearing a Mean Green shirt...got several positive comments by the way... GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

Someone in East Texas tried to run their mouth about UNT when I had my stuff on and I replied back " Hey where did you a get a degree from? Thats what I thought, no where?"1 point

There's the problem. Why anyone would eat at Subway instead of New York Sub Hub is beyond me.1 point

I live in Corpus Christi and normally wear my UNT hat when out and about. I've never had a negative comment. I've occasionally had someone say "Mean Green", had a few positive comments on our basketball team and some comments from folks hoping that TD would be successful at UNT.1 point

For those of us who have dogs, Operation Kindness (and other similar "no kill" shelters) is a great charity. One of the saddest things a person will ever see is going to a shelter that puts animals down when no one comes to their rescue. mrsgreengoblin, a salute to your group for adding Operation Kindness as a beneficiary to this event.1 point

Ok guys somewhere we got off count. I'm going to assume that when BleedGreen64 posted 4=46=50 he meant to add +4 to our count. I am also a fan of Washington's uniforms. Wyoming? Really? They are brown and yellow. Oh well, to each his own.1 point

I like the all black Tech uni. and the all white UT. One of my favorite is the Ohio State home uniform with the red jersey and Michigan's blue is a classic. I've also always like Florida State's. Not a fan of the team but like the helmet and love the tradition of the flaming spear to begin the games. SUMG, I would have to add Va. Tech with Clemson. Just a bad combination.1 point

I usually don't get any feedback one way or another. I have gotten one comment that kind of ticked me off. I was wearing a NT hat and was at a restaurant in Lewisville. As I was walking out the door, I decided to be polite and hold open the door for the couple walking out behind my wife and I. He was wearing an OU hat (this was after Dodge's first season and the disaster in Norman) and the little turd decided to comment "boomer sooner, that's all I have to say." I almost slammed the door in his douche face, but I didn't say anything and took the high road.0 points

I am a huge fan of the white helmet... I hate to admit it, but one of the best looking uniforms in college football are Oregon's alternate uniforms with the white helmet and green "O" and the all-white unis...
