I usually get "don't you think that's a little inappropriate for this Quinceanera?" Then I tell them that 1) I don't know what a quinceanera is and 2) If I had, I might've worn pants. Then I think maybe they're talking about the lack of pants. Then I make pants out of toilet paper in the bathroom. Then I get kicked out of the Sheraton. Point being, people are intolerant, and I still wear it.4 points

I wear stuff a lot, and almost never get any negative feedback. The coolest thing is when I'm wearing it when i go to visit family in Florida or somewhere else not local and another alum sees me and comes over. That's always cool. Likewise, I've actually started conversations with people wearing gear from other SBC schools when I've been traveling. Here? Never really anything negative... the occasional "you guys need a new coach" or some other shot at football, but it's never been malicious, just generic fan talk. I will say that I HAVE gotten (on more than one occasion) the "you guys were really good for a while there. what happened??"... when that happens, I give them a knowing nod, adjust the playsheet in my pants, and hand them a diet coke.4 points

Another thing UNT must accomplish is to somehow get its fans and supporters to stop badmouthing the program all the time. That and increased season ticket holders, Mean Green Club members, Alumni Association members and overall donors to the program could help a bit as well. Amazing how added support can often help the wins come and keep coming. I just think the supporters of UNT can be their own worst enemy at times. Having graduated from three universities I can honestly say that I don't hear this from the alums and supports of the other two schools in near the magnitude that I hear it from the Mean Green Nation. Neither of the other two schools can be considered football "powerhouses" in their own right either as both have times of major struggle. UNT is building in the right direction and plenty of positive progress is being made. It is true that wins must come on the football field and come on a consistent basis for UNT to garner the recognition it craves on the local, state and national scenes. Those who say winning cures everything are not wrong, but there is just a bit too much of the "it's everyone else who must step forward and then I'll support the program" still around UNT these days. For the life of me I cannot understand the "I cannot be proud of UNT" mentality. Hopefully, more wins will come this season, we'll have a great Fouts Farewell Tour season, the new stadium will open and folks will start feeling much better about the progress being made. The "show me" attitude is not dead and has some validity, but I think there has been plenty of "showing" being done in the last few years by RV and Company and that now it is time for the Mean Green faithful to do whatever they can on an individual basis...however big or small it matters not...to help keep to momentum moving forward. It can start with a great turnout for the Kick-off cookout this year on August 21st. See you there! GO MEAN GREEN!3 points

Our offense will be fine regardless of who the QB is , it's the DLine's play that will be the most important factor in this upcoming season3 points

Newsflash: The only way to gain recognition is to win...or to keep losing. We've already gained a bit of recognition for that. For those of you outside of the North Texas bubble: we're a laughing stock throughout the nation. When someone out here ask who my team is, their response to my reply of "North Texas" is usually a sympathy that is typically reserved for the loss of family members...or a solid belly laugh.3 points

It is the offseason, so I wanted to hear from some of you other diehards who often wear your UNT gear. I have 28 UNT caps so I most often wear a UNT cap, and always wear my UNT ring. I also live here in Denton. Now, since this is the home of our university, you would not think it strange to have on UNT gear, but here are questions I get on a regular basis: 1) Do you work at North Texas? 2) Are you a coach at North Texas? 3) Do you teach at the college? 4) My son had on his North Texas shirt in Subway one day, and the "sandwich artist" told him he should be ashamed to wear it. (Yes, here in Denton). *He did walk out, he is a student at UNT. Now, he eats at New York Subway as he was taught, lesson learned (LOL) 5) Wearing a UNT cap, I was asked if my UNT ring was an aggie ring. My UNT ring has a star w/ a green stone. This was by a UNT student at Rudy's, so I explained that while many Aggie rings have the star, our (UNT's) ring is the only one in Texas that is allowed to have a stone in it. At least, that is what I have been told. 6) Your a fan of North Texas? (while rolling their eyes and looking at me like I don't have a life). Now, I have worn another college team's cap, though not often, and never do I get a comment. I don't let it bother me any more, I just tell them I have pride in the place where I went to school, and good things are really happening. These are just a few questions I am asked on a regular basis. No, they do not bother me, but it is just weird living in Denton and getting these questions. When traveling outside of Denton, and I still wear a UNT cap then, comments are positive. Met a barista in downtown Indianapolis who went to UNT. Lots of comments about the music school. What about you, what kind of comments do you get?2 points

Someone in East Texas tried to run their mouth about UNT when I had my stuff on and I replied back " Hey where did you a get a degree from? Thats what I thought, no where?"2 points

We need to make more of the $100 million we're in the middle of spending on athletics. That is the simplest way to get the point across that UNT IS actually moving forward, athletically. Most of our alums that badmouth the program have all attended games in the biggest dump football stadium in all of D1. It's hard to not come away with a bad impression, honestly. The new stadium will change that....and telling our alums that we're actually getting up off our butts and supporting the program in words that they can plainly understand. $$. Oh...and winning cures all. ...but usually, winning requires having first spent $$.2 points

Sorry, but in the late 80's/early 90's, Frisco was a small farming community with a 2A High School, nobody knew where Allen was and Plano was about the size of Denton. You mention malls? Denton built the Golden Triangle Mall and Frisco courted Stonebriar. Any guess on who won that battle? Some other communities to add in to this discussion. Coppell was nothing but farm/ranch land, as was Colleyville, Southlake, Keller and Roanoke. Grapevine was a quaint little town on the northen edge of DFW airport and Flower Mound was beautiful ranchland west of Lewisville. Face it, everyone of these communities has passed Denton by because Denton is not proactive, not pro-business and has been touting its potential for years. Denton has had every opportunity to grow as the communities listed above, yet they end up with the reputation as being difficult to work with.1 point

Everytime a UT-OU Watching Party (or any watching party at that) is on I show up in UNT gear...the common response from those there is laughter. But when I count that the people in the room went to 1.) Community College for maybe a couple semesters (multiple people) 2.) Stephen F. Austin 3.) Tech (never graduated) after 3 other schools they couldn't hack at 4.) Random Nursing Schools (I have some friends who are Murses or Male Nurses) 5.) or the worst of the worst....those that went to UTEP, UTSA, UTA, UT Pan American or TAMU-Commerce, TAMU-Galveston, TAMU-Corpus who have actually convinced themselves that their "parent school" is deeply connected with their "satellite campus" (*insert self-inflicted gunshot to the face) I quickly remind those in the room that their schools are both sub-par to UNT and lack any real notoriety to those that give two craps (i.e. me) Bandwagoners are the worst type of person to watch sports with.... could never figure out how others can't see how lame they are for having "their favorite team" and trying to justify it with "oh well it's been that way since I was a kid" as if that makes it any more logical for you to try and swipe at me. Needless to say...I come into the room loaded to the hilt with ammo for just about anyone gaulish enough to open their mouth.1 point

Living in Arkansas, the reaction is an inevitable process: (1) confusion, as to why I am the only one around not wearing Razorbacks gear, (2) hatred, which all Arkansans have for all things Texas, and (3) confusion, when I explain that the gear I am wearing has nothing to do with the Texas Longhorns.1 point

1-3. I've been asked all of those. 4. I would have cancelled my order, reminded the "artist" that NT and the students support all the businesses of Denton, and walked out. 5. I don't have that ring, but I do often wear a NT cap or visor and get comments about the nice looking logo. 6. Have been asked this, but without the rolling eyes. I usually answer by letting them know it is where I graduated from and it is my school. Usually an indirect shot at the logo on their hat!1 point

Chico will eat the next kid that gives it away. Then he will run 50 laps around the sun and return in time for Monday's meetings. He will not let this happen anymore. It's Chuck Norris Chico time, baby.1 point

I went to the Great American Shoot-Out in Duncanville last night. My Bride went to elementary through high school with TX Bluechips-Navy coach Stacy Houston and wanted to offer her friend our support after Stacy's recent loss. Stacy Houston is the father of former North Texas recruit Deion Jackson-Houston who was killed in an automobile accident this past week. Stacy is an outstanding man and is handling this devastating loss as well as could possibly be expected by any father. Our prayers are certainly with him and his family during this difficult time. I talked briefly with Johnny Jones at the the Shoot-Out. He said he was there to watch several prospects but as always didn't provide names. He said that he was leaving Saturday morning to go to Oklahoma for a junior college talent showcase. I talked with several former Mean Green players, Ty Thompson who was assisting with the TX Bluechips-Navy, Brandon Gilbert who is now an assistant basketball coach at South Grand Prairie, and Kenneth Mangrum who is an assistant coach for Fred Rike at Angelo State University. Brandon said that he has a very talented point guard on his team that he'd love to see eventually play for North Texas. I talked to former North Texas basketball staff member Ervin Davis and asked him how his younger brother Chris was doing in Europe. He said I should ask Chris when he arrives in a little while. Chris was home on vacation and I had the pleasure of him introducing me to his beautiful bride and precious baby daughter. He said that he is having a wonderful time playing in France but that it is always great to come home. He said that although he understands French pretty well, he cannot speak it fluently, but his older daughter sure can. He said that making North Texas games is extremely difficult because of the conflicting season schedules and the great distances involved but that he has been able to fly home to catch a game during Christmas Break during several of the past years and plans on doing that again this year.1 point

Of the selections offered in this thread I like Design B but would really like a combination of B and the first example in the attached thread above. I like the stripe on the pants, the black accent and no stripe on the helmet. Also, not big on sleeve numbers.1 point

We would definitely take the family out there in Mean Green gear for half-price tickets. I'm sure you've already done it, but reach out to the McKinney Chamber of Commerce and maybe the folks at Craig Ranch (they have a great salesgal named Karen “KK” Taylor) to see about host families in that area.1 point

I am a huge fan of the white helmet... I hate to admit it, but one of the best looking uniforms in college football are Oregon's alternate uniforms with the white helmet and green "O" and the all-white unis... They are on the far left of this picture: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/.a/6a00d83451c3cb69e20115704e3ef3970c-pi&imgrefurl=http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_college/2009/06/oregon-changing-their-stripes-er-feathers-this-football-season.html&h=1024&w=1280&sz=572&tbnid=xZ5hWRujRGT6AM:&tbnh=120&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Doregon%2Bfootball%2Buniforms&hl=en&usg=__WL7qiGk5Zu7DplI8EANAQJJl_KE=&sa=X&ei=zRw3TPXGM8P-8AaI-JmbAw&ved=0CCIQ9QEwAA-1 points

For those of us who have dogs, Operation Kindness (and other similar "no kill" shelters) is a great charity. One of the saddest things a person will ever see is going to a shelter that puts animals down when no one comes to their rescue. mrsgreengoblin, a salute to your group for adding Operation Kindness as a beneficiary to this event.-1 points

I'm posting this here because I know this forum gets read the most. If y'all feel the need to move it that's ok. This is pretty cool and I thought maybe a few people here would be interested. Especially those that have older children. Mine are a little too young as the age limit is 10 or older. They need extras for the filming of Friday Night Lights at the Cotton Bowl and instead of getting paid they will be making donations to Operation Kindness if you go as a representative of their group. With the economic downturn over the past few years many people make their first budget cuts by letting go of their animals. Operation Kindness is the largest NO KILL animal shelter in North TX and they have taken on quite a lot of animals over the past few years. If you could do this it would be a very cool experience and for a great cause all at the same time! Thanks! Sam Greetings All: Please read below, be an extra on TV and help the animals at the same time! This is a great opportunity for all of our YMSL and NCL folks! “Friday Night Lights” is the hit DirecTV/NBC television series from acclaimed Writer/Director Peter Berg. The story behind the series – In Dillon, Texas, high school football isn’t just a sport, it’s a way of life. It is a family drama that not only focuses on football, but on the lives, loves and goals of people in a small Texas town. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Volunteer EXTRAS to play FANS in the football stands. We are looking for men, women and children in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Age limit is restricted to 10 years and older. FILMING DATES We will be filming on BOTH Friday 7/16/10 and Saturday 7/17/10. You are invited to participate on either one or both of these dates. WHERE WILL FILMING TAKE PLACE The Cotton Bowl – 3750 Midway Plaza, Dallas, TX 75210 (located at Fair Park) HOW MUCH TIME IS REQUIRED You will be expected to stay with us for the duration of our filming day, which can last anywhere from 6-10 hours. Start time is still TBD but depending on start, could last as late as 10:00pm on each day. HOW YOUR ORGANIZATION WILL BENEFIT For each person that attends as a representative of your group, a $20.00 per person donation will be made to Operation Kindness. WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED We will provide snacks and beverages for everyone throughout the day. After four (4) to six (6) hours of work, box lunches will also be provided. You are also welcome to bring food/drink with you to the stadium. During the day, there will be giveaways and raffles for great prizes. You will also get the chance to see your favorite “FNL” actors and possibly see yourself on NBC/DirecTV television!! If you are interested, please email Julie at jgoff@operationkindness.org.-1 points

I like TCU's uni's (home) from most years but liked both their uni's from late last year. I was in the minority. They had the scaly look on the uni's and the blood lines on the helmets. Navy has great uniforms too. Classic IMO.-2 points
