He also mentions just about every walk-on running back.....and leaves out Jeremi Mathis. He mentions Tanner Smith as an incoming TE.....leaves out Austin Fitzpatrick. I agree...this was not his best effort. But I do appreciate his site...and the fact that he has uncovered some info.3 points

UT ARLINGTON – Allen Adams has left and has been replaced by former Indiana player Andrae Patterson. The Mavericks aren’t in any tournaments and have non-conference road games at North Texas (11-30), Louisiana Tech (12-18), Texas Tech (12-22), Kansas (12-29) and at Arkansas (12-31). No one is transferring in or out of the program.2 points

UTSA already has Baylor on a future schedule. The SBC is not our problem --being competitive on the field with the SBC is the UNT problem. Until we can get the $$ to compete we will continue to get kicked by TROY (whom we are light years behind from a competitive standpoint), FAU (never ever been beaten by NT), MTSU who hired a coach that has kicked our rears ever year since, etc. Criticize the SBC if you must, just remember whose bringing up the rear in the SBC when you criticize.2 points

This will make all of the Southland Conference and FCS lovers really happy. Let be in the same conference as Sam Houston, no football team UTSA, Texas State San Marcos, SFA, and whoever. That way we play teams we have a history with. Geeze! Now I know why Louisiana Tech always wanted to "separate" themselves from the Sun Belt.2 points

Wonderful! Let's just get back in the old Southland where we belong and go from there! Why did we leave that high toned thing in the first place if we just want to stand pat and avoid the evil mileage consuming and time zone bastardization of the WAC? I mean, why travel all the way to desolate places and backward newbie programs like they have in Honolulu, the Lake Tahoe area, and the Frisco area, when we can just hang out in nearby resort areas like Beaumont, Nacogdoches, Huntsville, and such? I mean, it just makes no since at all to run off to these far away unheard of programs when we have so much old D1A history right in our own neighborhood with almost negligible travel costs! Let's do it!!2 points

7 of those 10 games are against regional opponents. 8 of 10 are after RV brought tailgating to NT, so that says a lot about what that has done about the total gameday experience fans get.2 points

I finally read the actual article. First, this is obviously a current student or very recent graduate and not someone used to actually fact checking before he types. Second, most of his "proposals" have already clearly demonstrated to be bad ideas. Third, a few new bad ideas include using the Great West conference as some sort of halfway house for wayward FCS programs. There is no reason at all to believe they would provide this community service at great expense to their current members by temporarily destroying their scheduling to accommodate programs over 1000 miles away. But most importantly, this article clearly shows there is never anything worthy of reading posted on The Bleacher Report.1 point

I'd say that 34K was artificially inflated (like most SMU attendance figures) because of SMU's Sellout Campaign 2009. So, as you can see, 18,000 of those tickets were sold to only 18 people. I have no idea how many of those were given away, but I have to suspect most of them were. If that was indeed the case, I'd estimate their attendance was closer to 16,000 people who actually paid for and used their own tickets.1 point

As a UT parent for ten years I can definitely tell you there is a sports fee. It's just hidden with the other tons of fees that sometimes are nearly as much as tuition. Since about 2002 there are no breakdowns of fees on the bills. Attitude is that if you don't agree with paying the fees don't let the door hit you. The lines, bracelets needed to keep spots, charges at full price for visitors, and student charges for tickets are a way of life at UT and all BCS schools. Our students pay half the athletic fee of UTSA, TSSM, Lamar and others that are FCS not even D-1. I think you have to count grants and financial aid as support. Both are more available now than at any time in history. Our students have been spoiled and seen as the "poor working commuters" too long. They have been given tickets since sports began @ NT and never appreciated it. No, we don't have a UT or A$M program but when we are even below some TX FCS schools, it's time to quit playing "the poor downtroden card" for students. Something that costs nothing is perceived as worth nothing. Pertaining to the original intent of this thread, I feel that the Homecoming game in 1967 which matched Steve Ramsey of NT against Greg Cook of Cincinnati may have been the most exciting and unusual game played in Fouts. NT had a very good H/C crowd @ K/O but threats of storms and tornadoes sent most scurrying for cover near half time. The last half was played in a driving rainstorm but both QBs threw like it was a dry day. The score was something like 55-30--- NT won. Both QBs went on to decent NFL careers. It still amazes me how far we have fallen from a competitive stand point to what we had in the late 60s and most of the 70s. As a retired coach once told me Fry & Blakeley were actually bad for future coaches because they won and recruited with minimal school and alumni $$$ and no athletic fee. The eggheads at the top for more than two decades thought that because Fry & Blakeley could win and compete with next to nothing that their successors could do it as well.1 point

I don't blame alot of these schools for wanting to move up. Its probably a good time for them to start looking at their options before the BcS big boys are able to successfully form their superconferences. Of course they don't expect to be included in the superconferences., but they can try to get into a mid level conference after some of the shakeups. All the more reason to light a fire under our collective arses so they don't pass us.1 point

I understand that your comment is pointing out that the stadium will be too small. However, I see this as a positive. If UNT can generate enough buzz (via winning) that the new stadium sells out constantly, then RV and the rest of the AD staff will be in a position to begin charging more, or dare I say...charging students to come to the games. That would generate more revenue and get us started on expanding the stadium! UT/A&M charge $100's for "all sports" passes. If UNT can build enough excitement around campus, I don't think students would scoff at paying $50 - $100 for an "all sports" pass. Maybe I'm off though. What do those of you who are students think? If the product on the field were good enough to consistently sell out a 30K seat stadium, would you pay $100 for an "all sports" pass (you're basically paying for football and getting all other sports for free)?1 point

We just don't have fan support... True, we could definitely improve here. But a 2-10 team over the last several years still draws top of the Belt in attendance. Someone else can verify, but I think we were top 3? That sounds pretty good to me.1 point

Well, I'm humbled with that sick burn from one of the most habitually negative people around. I didn't know serious sports talk *tm was the angry caller persona where you list out reasons for change you pull out of the air and tell the people in charge you know more than them. You've been perfecting that for years, so I suggest you leverage this expertise into a stint with 105.3 The Fan. Maybe they'll sponsor the board or help with the stadium if you call in, text or email a really good idea of how to change college sports and improve the program. Let's pick up from that comment about how Hawaii and Fresno are kicking BCS arse and really hash this out with some serious sports talk *tm. Or we can just agree to ignore each other unless the conversation paths cross, not have a slap fight and move on.0 points

Hmmm. Seven of the 10 are against regional opponents. I wonder what that says about scheduling regional opponents. Does it say anything? Or, does it say nothing at all? And, if it says something, what exactly does it say? And, if it says nothing, what further information is needed to draw a conclusion? I like a scheduled game against Oklahoma State. I also like a scheduled game against Texas State. I also like a scheduled game against SMU. I also like a scheduled game against Tulsa. I also like a scheduled game against TCU. I also like a scheduled game against Louisiana Tech. I also like a scheduled game against UTEP. I also like a scheduled game against Rice. I also like a scheduled game against Houston. I also like a schedule game against Kansas State. I also like a scheduled game against Kansas. I also like a scheduled game against Sam Houston State. I also like a scheduled game against Stephen F. Austin even though he's dead. I also like a scheduled game against Southern Mississippi. I also like a scheduled game against Missouri State. I like all of those schedule games if they are scheduled to be played at our home field to give us a home field advantage in attendance and crowd noise favor.0 points

Im sorry forever. You cannot compare the schools listed to UNT and the reason being because usually they play an SBC in the home opener and everyone is so excited about the game that they dont care who they play. And secondly (specifically UT) seats are harder to come by there so getting in to see a game, any game, is something that a fan desires. I can also say that when UT plays against a SBC team the tickets are all of a sudden given away and easier to get. Your argument doesn't work. And to those that say to get students to come to the games it's all about winning...why didn't it work during the seasons we won the SBC championships? Why is our attendance higher now than it was then? Why is our attendance higher when we play named opponents? Because when I ask students and my fraternity brothers why they dont go to the games their response is overwhelmingly because the teams we play suck. The layman's definition of suck is an opponent they haven't heard of. I can't believe that you people are arguing that the SBC is somehow superior to the WAC.-1 points

Glad to hear others making good arguments for moving to the WAC. We can't be scared of a Big West conference from 15 years ago. Things change, and if we don't, we will be left behind.-1 points

My fellow GMGers: I have come to decide that this board is right and that the Sunbelt Conference is better than the WAC. I don't want to recreate the Big West conference of 10+ years ago. I will forever look forward to the day that the Sunbelt gets the recognition it so desperately deserves; hopefully another 10 years will do just that. I think by staying in this conference we can help build it to its full potential and then we can really build a name for ourselves, even if it takes another decade. I am committed to sitting by and watching the other Sunbelt schools advance go to other conferences (which are not near the quality of the SBC) while we wait and build. Furthermore, I am extremely excited to see what the newly accepted D-2 or equivalent schools will bring to the Belt. Forgive me for disagreeing with your points of view and being so stubborn in my thinking that I did not catch on to this truth sooner. Carry on and long live the Belt.-1 points
