UNT's future is in UNT's hands. SMU and, for that matter, no other school can dictate UNT's future other than UNT and its fan base. If the alums finally start stepping up and recognizing that they are actually part of the solution instead of "dissing" UNT every chance they get, finding every lame excuse in the world why NOT to support their university and acting like they are from some other university then and only then will UNT see its fortunes really start to improve. RV has done more than one really could have expected in improving the athletic facilities at UNT, and the students have stepped up with a fee increase to help make it happen. So, it's really time for the fan base and alumni to "put up or shut up". UNT alums who own companies and/or hold executive level positions in companies need to step up and provide financial support, alums need to join the Mean Green Club and the Alumni Association, alums and fans need to buy season tickets and make donations at any level they can to academic departments and scholarships, students need to actually start coming to games...all this stuff helps move the program forward. If all you can do is donate $15-25 then do it...numbers count and dollars add up. It's not about the size of the donation or the support, it's about the support. A $25 donor if that is what he/she can do is just as important in my book as the $5-25,000+ donor. It is also time that UNT alums and supporters stop thinking and acting like UNT is some small no-name school with some suspect academic credentials. When this happens, UNT will get the respect it deserves and will truly start to matter in the local landscape...SMU, etc. has absolutely no say in this. It's all in those who support UNT hands. Will you join? GO MEAN GREEN!5 points

Vizza didn't leave because UNT didnt offer his major, he left because his BFF Sam Dibrell left. Of course we all know Dibrell coincidentally left after the whole drug test incident. I know a guy who plays football at Texas A&M and I asked him if he knew anything about Vizza. He said he's never even heard of the guy. Vizza quit on this team. He's a quitter in every sense of the word. I don't care how many times he was laid out, the guy was given a chance to start for a Division I program as a true freshman and gave it away to go party in College Station. He gets no pitty from me.3 points

Maybe just by employing Ramon Flanigan at any point in time, you give up any and all transfer/injury waivers retroactively.2 points

Tread lightly here... What's wrong with a degree from the University of North Texas? Surely he didn't come to UNT to make sure he's a first round draft pick? So he chose UNT to play a little football and get an excellent education for FREE! Then, he left. Open season.2 points

I think its actually a good thing. It delays the development of the super conference. If we can get our football team back on track, get a baseball team started (which should be good at the start due to the talent and the lack of schools that have baseball compared to football), get our new stadium, and our other teams continue to improve and/or thrive, we can be in a position to move up to a stronger conference when the super conferences become a reality. Do I think we will be invited to the PACK or the SEC, no, but if a new regional conference were to replace the Big Xii, maybe we can be in a position for it, or the MWC or some sort of a top tier non AQ conference. But in short, I think it buys us time to improve our resume.2 points

Let me get this straight, according to the thread title, "Struggles in football may hurt UNT's chances in realignment", UNT will have realignment problems because of football. Yet, prior to June Jones going to SMU, the 'Stangs had horrific records in football since the death penalty and have moved to two conferences since then.1 point

I was there too, all 4 quarters, not sitting in a comfy press box. We're not too hard on Gio. Actually, many schools are tougher on their players than we are on Gio. The problem with Gio is that he was a little kitty. When he thought there was a chance he may not get to start, did he man up and and say, bring it on Rodge, beat me out of the starter's role? NO. Did he announce his decision to leave at the end of the season, before winter break, or any time that would allow us adequate time to fill his roster spot with a potential recruit? NO. Did he just decide to leave in the dead of winter, AFTER recruiting, and when the team was gearing up for spring ball. YES. Maybe Im just old fashioned, but I think he should have been a man about it and fought for his starting spot, and if he lost it, get his ass ready to play in case Rodge, as we have seen is injury prone, went down. I could reclaim my starter title. But thats just me. Its not like he was getting a free ride through school with a scholarship, or anything. Dickey coached when he wanted to. Which didnt include OOC games or until his job was on the line after the 2001 ULM game, or the SMU home win. Oh, and its not like he didnt call the most loyal, die hard NT fans motherf**Kers or anything, or wait.1 point

Boone might be a bright guy, but he doesn't know much about other schools. TCU has a 44,000 seat stadium. Record attendance was just last year against Utah with 50K and change.1 point

It never gets old. Oh wait, the anti-dodge comments on every thread got old two years ago. He either wins this year or he's gone. That's the fact. So how many of you are now cheering for our failure next season just to get him out of here?1 point

What is truly sad is our starting quarterback could not even manage to walk-on at aTm. Really gives you a feel for the general talent gap between the schools.1 point

I heard he guided his intramural team to 3rd place down at A&M. He set a bunch of offensive records, but his defense was coached by a 12 year old girl with a concussion. Source.1 point

For all the talk about the other schools wanting to control their destiny, the rest of the Big 12 is still toting UT's laundry. The conference should be renamed Texas and the Sheep. That way regardless of how many schools leave or join, the name is still accurate. I wonder if there is any truth to the rumor that aside from Texas, the other schools must remove their helmet logos and put this on it: Texas will let the schools make the sheep their own color and not require it to be burnt orange. In case you can't tell, the Aggies and Sooners have really disappointed me. I thought better of them - I guess I should have known.1 point

I'll be serious for once. Is this little more than Texas leveraging their position to get someone else to finance the infrastructure to create their own Notre Dame-like empire in a few years? When the league ultimately falls apart and Texas breaks into their own stratosphere with a super-TV network in place for any conference or, gasp, station looking for an independent program to feature, will the other teams still be happy they played such a subordinate role? Either way, we're one step closer to the end of amateur college athletics.1 point

I'm a big fan of the vulva but I just don't think playing one in the new Fouts, or the old Fouts for that matter, is the correct place to play with a vulva.1 point

I'll trust that ESPN can put together a good highlight reel. Based on what I saw, they'd have enough material for a 1 minute segment; 2 minutes if they show more than 1 camera angle of the same 2 plays.1 point

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703302604575294231631318728.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_LEADTop Interesting, yes, a tad long, but interestingnone the less one person's perspective on the Obama presidency and what seems to be his "guiding reference". I make no judgements on this opinion piece from today's Wall Street Journal, but I do think it brings into perspective much of what this president believes and how he reacts and acts...not to mention what his ultimate goals may be. You read...you decide. I hope the link works.1 point

Why, he's got you doing it for him for free. You should send him a bill for your services. While you are at it, how about getting him to ship a few million to UNT.0 points

Man...you guy's are really hard on G. Vizza. Gino was true Freshman and was beat to almost a pulp more times than I care to mention. I live in Houston, TX., so I was sitting in the Rice Press Box where all of their big money Alumni watch the game. A friend of mine's Grandfather was the Rice team doctor back in the day. I had bird's eye view of 77 Rice 20 UNT butt kicking, and it was a KICKING. Rice could have scored 100+ if they wanted, but had compassion for UNT and it's HS coach. Yes HS coach. Your knock on G. Vizza is he left UNT because the coach's son..."all world QB recruit" was coming to UNT and R. Dodge knew Daddy's system like the back of his hand. If you're getting the crap sacked out of you and Daddy's son is the new team's savior what would y'all do? Ride the bench like Mangrum (sp) did? I wouldn't...maybe I'm not as selfless as I should be. Was Gino V. the only one leaving UNT football. I wonder how much the UNT football team was being run like a college team, or was our program being run like a glorified HS team in the locker room? On the field we've pretty much looked like a HS team. If you disagree please post our current record under T. Dodge. I'm not a T. Dodge homer...thought D. Dickey was better coach...on a coaching scale where does that leave T. Dodge? UNT football savior? Disagree, please re-sight our record under Mr. Todd Dodge please?0 points

Kind of uppity for a team whose football history spans a whole 8 years, and has had a total of TWO winning season at I-A level. Hey FAU, you can talk when you've won 24 conference championships.0 points

What's even sadder is the guy who hand picked him and annointed him starter over the "seasoned" upperclassmen we already had.0 points

Good idea guys. Lets view someone's honest question as an opportunity to trash a kid who felt it was in his best interest to pursue a degree rather than a football career. Got to love GMG in the offseason.0 points

You're right, we dont have to be "in love" with the Belt. However, to think that the WACky is better than the SBC at this point is ludicrious. Boise was the ONLY thing redemming about that conference. Idaho and Nevada have been decent the past year or two. However, without BSU, the SBC is ranked higher.0 points

A&M would be colossally stupid not to accept an invite to the SEC if there's one on the table. All this realignment has shown is that UT-Austin will do anything to get what they want, and that won't change the next time around. What will change the next time around, is the SEC option might not be there. Of course, this is probably all just a big PR attempt to blame A&M and Nebraska for the collapse of the Big 12.-1 points
-
So the Big 12 10 is the new 12 survives and Texas comes out and says "Our evil plan worked! We got rid of Colorado and Nebraska! We just didn't like going there and we love the rest of the gang." This is really starting to smell like Texas hatched a plan to form the PAC-16 and Nebraska just gave them an excuse to launch it. Colorado ran ahead to cut off Baylor and A&M fouled the whole thing by actually considering a plan besides what Texas had it mind. If this is all true, I may have a new found respect for those guys in College Station.-1 points
