  1. Damn negative Vito. His bias is obvious. I can only imagine how angry I'd have been if I hadn't already canceled my newspaper subscription each of the last 15 times I threw a fit over his yellow journalism. Why does he hate North Texas so much?!? He's trying to destroy us!

  3. Fellas, fellas, fellas, listen... Texas has more than a "Tech" or "Baylor" problem. The problem for Texas is that the conferences are now racially integrated and facemasks are required on all helmets. Before such, Texas ruled. Texas A&M doesn't need Texas. Neither does Oklahoma. A bastard of an Arkansas alum has built a giant stadium in Arlington, Texas. Schools make heaps and gobs of money to go play there - even though it sucks once you are inside of it. So, while Texas is still pretending its 1966, an A&M in the SEC could be pulling down double the jack in TV money and scheduling games in JerryArkansasGradWorld with the likes of Arkansas and LSU for even more dough. If A&M and OU were to both jump ship on Texas, the 'Horns would reap what they deserve - the sissified Pac-10 or a very uncomfortably southern partner in the Big (and Growing) 10. OU could also fill JerryArkansasGradWorld with games against Arkansas, LSU, and A&M. Whatever happens, it's looking more and more like Texas doesn't like the fact that the right people may not ask them to prom, so they aren't going to go. And, I say, fine...stay home where you belong, beyotch! Reap the crappy remnants of the Big 12-2, 'Horns. You've already screwed up one conference with your political shenanigans. Sit amongst the ashes of the second, you parasitic boll weevils of insanity!

  4. Well according to espn Sources: Departure to Pac-10 coming By Joe Schad ESPN Archive The departure of Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to the Pac-10 is imminent, four sources within the Big 12 said Monday. One source said commissioner Dan Beebe's last-minute plan to save the conference has "zero" chance to succeed. Another source said it is "very unlikely" to succeed. Texas' interests in being aligned with the research opportunities and academic missions of Pac-10 schools is driving the decision, along with money. Beebe's last-ditch plan included an emotional plea about preserving rivalries and maintaining the best welfare of the student-athlete, one source said. Texas A&M is now most likely to join the SEC, a source within the Big 12 said. This move, in the wake of Colorado and Nebraska's departure, would further diminish the chance of Beebe's plan succeeding, one source said. Texas' decision is expected to come no later than Tuesday. One source familiar with Texas' plans suggested a hearing on Wednesday at the Texas House of Representatives is "a nonfactor." Joe Schad covers college football for ESPN. I don't know about yall but I dont think anyone knows what the hell is going on.

  7. I see this as good news for UNT. As much as we have to offer with media market, facility improvements, men's BB recent success, and recent success and improvements in non-revenue sports, our football record is our black eye. The commitment is there. Our attendance is even improving yearly despite horrific seasons. I've been afraid that realignment came too soon. I like our chances more if the realignment is small with little movement and we have a couple years to try to get football back on track. The 12-18 month timelines originally set by the Big-10 could be our friend. If we can post a winning season this year and next, or even better have a break out season, then I think our stock goes up significantly. I know it is not always about records and has to do with media markets, commitment, etc. (according to ArkStFan's article), but our record right now is a huge black eye. I can't help but think with the new coaching changes, returning players and seemingly good recruiting, we have to be at that turning point. I really think we are on the verge of a good run and hoping this statement doesn't come back and bite me in the buttocks! I'm afraid right now, we would remain where we are in the Sunbelt and there will not be any realignment for quite a while. That may not be a bad thing depending on how things shake out. Right now, the WAC is a bad option with the travel and time zone without a Boise. Our budget is stretched as it is. We need to be in a league with more Texas teams like a western CUSA. That may even be a pipe dream at this point.

  9. So the Big 12 10 is the new 12 survives and Texas comes out and says "Our evil plan worked! We got rid of Colorado and Nebraska! We just didn't like going there and we love the rest of the gang." This is really starting to smell like Texas hatched a plan to form the PAC-16 and Nebraska just gave them an excuse to launch it. Colorado ran ahead to cut off Baylor and A&M fouled the whole thing by actually considering a plan besides what Texas had it mind. If this is all true, I may have a new found respect for those guys in College Station.

  14. You do realize that Louisiana is the only member of the Sunbelt to not have to go through 1AA hell. They remained 1A the entire time. Most of the Wacy teams had to go through 1AA hell as well. Not sure how University of Louisiana at Lafayette "sounds" like a community college when University of Nevada at Las Vegas does not. Why is it the "bane of the Sunbelt?"

  17. If UNT should try to focus on Collin and Denton Counties, keep in mind that most grads in Collin County are still UT, Texas Tech, and A&M alumni. DFW's most watched bowl games were in that order followed by SMU then TCU who was in the Fiesta Bowl. Where's UNT going to fit in? #6 behind the other 5 big Texas schools? UNT's number of alumni can position itself as a solid #4 in DFW behind the "Big 3" in Texas, but more importantly, #1 out of the 3 in DFW. GrayEagle is right. If UNT is to position itself for growth, it has to get Dallas and Tarrant Counties too minimum. UNT is a directional school, just like U of H, and considering the Coogs won their bodybag games last season against OSU and Texas Tech, UNT can do the same but saying "we don't need them, let them stay south of Lake Lewisville is

  18. Why not partner with SMU? I know sometimes there are some hard feelings here, but I don't get it. Why not forge ahead with the Pony's as a partner in all this?

  21. Understood. What are your thoughts on building the Sun Belt? As I understand it, San Antonio is a good-sized media market and the addition of UTSA could be the boost we need to legitimize the conference.

  25. What if UNT went to C-USA and we could play games every year against our rival SMU? What are you guys thoughts on that?

  26. Just because we're currently part of the Sun Belt conference doesn't mean we have to be in love with the Belt. We don't have to pretend that if CUSA or WAC extended an offer to us we'd 'have to think about it.' I agree the Belt has gotten better. But still the only people who know that are fans of programs within the Belt. As I've said before, I don't know that any of this matters if everything's headed to the super conference but those who are trying to convince themselves that the Sun Belt is just as good as CUSA or the WAC will be jumping up and down if we were to move. Of this I am sure.

  30. A&M would be colossally stupid not to accept an invite to the SEC if there's one on the table. All this realignment has shown is that UT-Austin will do anything to get what they want, and that won't change the next time around. What will change the next time around, is the SEC option might not be there. Of course, this is probably all just a big PR attempt to blame A&M and Nebraska for the collapse of the Big 12.

  31. Wouldn't it be easier to add either NMSU or La Tech to the SBC? That means just one school has to change. We are at 11 immediately and go to 12 when USA moves up in football. The Wacy TV contract is going to be renegotiated, now without Boise who was responsible for nearly 50% of their coverage. The H-Bowl is already making noises about moving with Boise. Without Boise, the SBC actually get MORE BSC money than those Wacy people. None of the time zone problems for news coverage.

  39. As I said it was, "years ago" on the TV ratings things. Also, from Mean Green teams that were winnning more than they were losing. Years ago I say? That is, before our alma mater started its multi-decades quest of doing its best to go back to the womb football-wise and with staffers who fell over themselves trying to do everything "opposite the way Hayden Fry did it in Denton"; rather than what many of us preferred our alma mater do and that would be making giant steps forward like, uh, Southern Miss, Fla. State (who almost dropped football in the early 70's), Louisville, Memphis, Tulsa, etc, etc, etc. All the aformentioned schools that UNT was at one time at the same level with & with some of them even using UNT as their model for more in the Believe It Or Not department of years past. (Check that part out, too, and some on this board know it for fact--in fact, ask Rick V what USM thought of UNT back in those days to bring it closer to home). Go figure why all the aforementioned schools & former conference-mates of ours chose the direction they chose and then...........the direction way too many UNT AD's chose (with a different shade of green coming from each) while many from that group were biding time in Denton waiting for their chance for the Big Time or to get back to the Big Time a la former UNT AD Steve Sloan. Yes, for many on this board, it's been a wild and crazy ride, but I really believe Rick V and Staff have this thing going in a good or best direction we can go at the level we co-exist, but at age 59, I would have preferred we would have progressed like all the other aforementioned schools who went "Beep-Beep" past us when in another era, we were (in deed) models for their scheduling of the Big Boys (which we were doing before most from our level during that era). Yet........it was our "beating" some of those Big Boy/Name Schools which made UNT some of our former conference-mates their models. NOTE: Being on DFW's TV Channel 21 in recent years with teams not doing well in the W/L column would tend to not get good ratings. No argument with that... GMG! PS: Thanks for the kind words, NT03. Feeling is mutual toward all I know on this board and that whether we agree or agree to disagree.! lol!

  40. What the hell? Texas A&M vs Ole Miss is good football but Texas vs Arizona State is a yawn? I guess you'd pick Rosie O'Donnell over Katherine Heigl.

  41. UNT has no pull. Yes we are in the DFW area ,but that doesn't mean we have DFW rating power. In Dallas it's UT,a&m,OU,Tech and that will not change. We don't even have a Denton fanbase much less a metroplex. You think a conference is drooling over UNT because of a dallas tv market ? Feel free to check out any of the ratings we did on our past games on channel 21. Man I can't wait for CLEMSON !!

  45. I think we just need to move conferences. Maybe even for the publicity. Just to let people know we play football. Staying in the Sun Belt is going to do us no good. So maybe the Sun Belt has made progress in the past couple of years, but it has not been enough.
