I was hopeful and wishing that the inevitable grumbling about promotion for this game wouldn't start before the end of summer, at least. Now, my other hand is full of poop and I have a new appreciation for rhetorical idioms.2 points

Thanks Tasty, I knew could count on one of the TY twins to catch me back up. It's the least you owe me after posting the new jersey model pictures and captioning it with all kinds of sexual enuendo between Brock Stickler and I, back in '07. Thanks............2 points

8, 9, or 15 win season? Should we fire Todd Dodge if he gives a bad speech at the kickoff cookout? What if he gets a traffic ticket before then? (Obama/Mexicans): Grave threat to American survival... Or GRAVEST threat to American survival? Soccer: Once every four years, it's not just for kindergartners anymore! Who is faster: The Flash or Superman? What about Wolverine? Being in a conference full of terrible football teams is killing our program! Especially when we keep losing to all of them! Throw in a recent meme of non sequitur Simpsons photos, and that's about all you've missed over the summer. I'll get you a box of crayons and a sheet of butcher paper, or maybe just some fingerpaint, and you can draw up a hypothetical new universe of conferences. Then, you're back up to speed.2 points

Seems to me that the prognosticators have been spot on the past few years. I honestly see NOTHING to indicate this team will be any better than last year. Too many new elements, too few successes to build on. Of course, come late August I will be anxious to see it on the field. Right now, it's too early to drink the kool-aid.2 points

I guess that San Jose and Idaho have raised their budgets along with a lotof MAC schools. This is my concern about the Belt. Most of you probably know that I have been a Belt fan from Day 1. The apparent lack of resources/desire to commit for excellence is my concern. If we are not getting better, we are stagnant. If we are not spending money, we are not going to get better. 4 or 5 schools in the Belt are spending the money to be competitve (somewhat) - the rest are drastically underfunded. I am really considering the WAC invite, hopefully it is still a standing invite.2 points

Who else can we blame? Ourselves? We need blimp to circle Denton the entire of summer with a big graphic on the side that says: Clash of the Titans 2: UNT vs. TT, be there or die1 point

Why don't you and some of your former player buddies make a nice HOF thread about all your friends, fans and athletic supporters here at GMG?1 point

I would be very disappointed if Dickey came anywhere close to the NT Hall of Fame. I give him all the credit for an incredible run in the Belt but character has to be a factor when selecting a coach to the HOF. Even if you disregard the pitiful antics after he was terminated, DD was all about DD. He continued throughout his career to berate his situation at NT, I guess to elevate his achievements despite the poor circumstances at NT. Even though there was more than just a grain of truth in his comments, it didn't do anyone any good to continually be reminded that NT athletics had issues. It is no wonder that recruiting against any other school became increasingly difficult when the HC continually bemoaned the situation at NT. It also didn't help that IMO after a couple of bowl appearances that Dickey appears much more interested in getting a job upgrade than growing or even maintaining the program. Yes, DD had success at NT and build a great Belt program but you can't disregard that he also was responsible for the dismantlement of that program.1 point

Best athlete on the team???? I stopped reading your post once I skimmed that ridiculous line. I really like Riley and was hoping he'd stay at QB, but let's be realistic here. If this team wins 6 games, it's not because Riley all of a sudden is playing slot receiver. The man will contribute, but I really see him as a specialty player. This team already has depth with experience & speed at WR.1 point

I agree...Dickey at some point should get consideration...He had one of the most successful runs in our history. Without DD...what would expectations be today??? Not this ballot, bit eventually he should get some looks1 point

And Reagan? Hell, Reagan showed so much disrespect he didn't even send GHWB. He sent the under secrty of the defense (or some such person). BTW, Obama went to a Nat'l. cemetery. He paid respect, just not at Arlington. But don't let that get in the way of your hate.1 point

I have no doubt Riley will play a big role this season, will ad a few wrinkles and prove he's still a vital contributor...but let's tap the brakes on "best athlete on this team". This team WILL win this season, but it will be because of things like getting plays called without calling a timeout, receivers who can stretch the field and QB's who can get it there, legit size on the lines, and the use of tight ends and multiple looks...not because a kid with above average speed is in the slot. Gee, how many fast slot receivers do you think defensive coordinators have seen and game planned for?1 point

While I'm really looking forward to the first game in the new stadium, I will miss Fouts. I saw the first game at Fouts while home on leave. I thought that it was really "big time" when compared to the old stadium. At that time I thought that all stadia should have tracks around the field. I had great eyesight then but now it's hard for me to see the players bench. Some other memories have been mentioned...the high=scoring Navy game; the monsoon when we played Southern Miss; the two wins over SMU; the blizzard when Florida State came to town and the win over FIU in seven overtimes. To that I add fantastic duel between Greg Cook ov Cincinnati and Steve Ramsey played in a myriad of weather conditions which we finally pulled out. Abner Haynes scoring all eight points in a win over Tulsa that brought our fist MVC championship. Most of our football and track Hall-of-Famers performed at Fouts; I was fortunate enough to see them all. So yes, I will miss the memories of Fouts. Without Fouts we sould still be in the FCS or lower. I think that it was the stadium, more than anything else, that allowed us to join the MVC and major college football. Now I'd like to add one more memory before embracing the new home of the Mean Green, I'd like to see a win over Kansas State in the final game. Then the old girl, who has lost her beauty, can nevertheless go out in style.1 point

Anything is better than this dying sun suck conference. For the life of me I can't understand why ANYONE would be against a conference jump. Budget...that's going to be changing soon. Travel...we don't travel well as it is because no one wants to see us play these sucky schools that no one cares about. So what if BSU leaves the WAC...it's still light years ahead of what we are currently in. Their members are better recognized schools, they play better against named opponents, and they have a better opportunity to jump into a better conference in time. Lets face it...if getting into a better conference is a stepping stone then moving into the WAC is our first step. No other conference is going to be looking to raid the SunBelt, even the CUSA is looking at the Mtn West instead of the Sunbelt. If we pass on another opportunity our football program is doomed. I for one would rather attend a game in our new stadium against Fresno St, Hawaii, or Nevada than ULaLa, or FIU. It's a no brainer.1 point

Harry and others, Thanks for your support of Scott. I hope my reply doesn't spark personal attacks, but will help folks decide if Scott deserves consideration. The criteria for UNT "Hall of Fame" consideration states.... The following are basic guidelines for considering a person as an inductee into the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame: 1. The person should have made an outstanding contribution to North Texas athletics. 2. The inductee should have an honorable and respectable image since leaving the University of North Texas. 3. Candidates are not eligible for induction until at least five years after they left the University of North Texas. 4. A strong consideration will be given those student-athletes who graduated from the University of North Texas. As a parent, of course, I truly believe Scott meets or exceeds the membership criteria for this prestigious honor. Since becoming the youngest Division 1 starting quarterback in the nation in the fall of 2000, Scott has represented The University of North Texas in a positive manner. During his football career, Scott achieved the title of UNT’s All Time Passing Efficiency Leader and high standings in numerous other statistical categories, including 3rd in Touchdowns Thrown (50) and finishing 4th behind Maher, Ramsey and Davis as UNT’s Career Passing Leader and Total Offense Leader. As a 4 year starting quarterback and 2 year Team Captain, Scott was instrumental in helping lead the team to a record setting, 25 game conference winning streak, along with 4 Sunbelt Championships and 4 New Orleans Bowl appearances. While leading a run-based offense “gaudy” passing numbers were not possible, but Scott had the honor of calling the plays (or direction of the run) that led to North Texas having back to back NCAA Rushing Leaders. During his career, Scott was selected as a 2 time “All Sunbelt Conference Quarterback,” a 3 time “Team Offensive Player of the Year” and in 2004 “Team MVP.” Additionally, in 2001, Scott was selected by Dave Campbell and Texas Football Magazine as the “Texas College Football Player of the Year.” While those that saw Scott play can attest to his leadership, toughness and never give up attitude on the field, it’s his off-field, team first attitude that I’m personally the most proud of. Many remember his playing the last 6 games of 2002 in pain with a torn ACL and then returning after a missed season with a torn pectoral muscle, but it was his decision to return to UNT after the loss of his younger brother Aaron in 2003 that showed his character and leadership. While struggling with Aaron’s death and wanting to take a semester off to be home with family, Scott told me he just had to return for the sake of the team. “He owed it to them.” Scott’s leadership and mental toughness was again tested when he was asked by coaches to help the team cope and remain focused after the death of his teammate and good friend, Andrew Smith. From talking with coaches, he was extremely successful in dealing with these very tough issues. Since entering UNT in 2000 and graduating in 2005 with a B.S. Degree in Engineering Technologies, Scott has maintained an honorable and respectable image. He was selected as both the Sunbelt Conference, Student Athlete of the Year and the American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineer of the Year in 2004. Also in 2004, Scott was asked to be a graduation ceremony speaker for the 1st class of graduating seniors of the recently established North Texas Engineering Department. Scott participated as a Junior Mean Green Mentor, a Letterman’s Club member and sponsor for the Andrew Smith Scholarship Fundraiser. In 2007, Scott was recognized for his accomplishments and was inducted into his school district's “Hall of Honor,” the youngest member ever. Scott is currently a partner in a Lumber Construction/Marketing firm and active in his church, where he and his wife Lindsay teach a Special Needs Children Sunday School class. In closing, Yes, I'm a proud parent and biased, but I've tried to provide some information I believe to be true to help others decide. Ultimately it will be decided by the recommendations or lack thereof from fans, teammates, coaches and the HOF Committee. Thanks for reading, Sincerely, Stan Hall "Green Eagle"1 point

Dude, quit being an ass. Or at least try. I am not bringing in politics. I think its sory for ANY president not to attend Arlington. I didnt realize its "outrage" to show displeasure at a president. I thought it was that damn fredom of speech thing. Thanks for setting me straight.0 points

No, if you served your country, you get a pass. Pres. Clinton and Pres. Obama didn't. Clinton undeerstood this and was there every year. Pres. Obama either doesn't understand this or doesn't care. Really not a big deal, other than to show his lack of understanding/doesn't care attitude about the current political landscape. Interesting that you use the 2 Bush Presidents when there were others available for example. Interesting again that everything has to be in republican or democrat terms with you.0 points

Where did I blame Bush for anything? I'm just pointing out that other presidents have done the same thing, but if you have an ® next to your name, you get a pass.0 points

I agree with this person being ignorant! However, the small business person is who is currently squeezed. Paying a majority of the income taxes while being held hostage by government in the following areas. Health Insurance: Tort reform needed to help healthcare providers lower costs. Red tape to get basic prescriptions. Banks: Only loans available are at astronomical rates. How can I expand paying over 15% for anything. Did we just not bail them out. Also they get gov $ to loan at o%. They say Bankruptcy is killing them but they are the ones who extended bad credit in the first place. Oil.. Well I don't know as much about this subject but when the 3 big oil companies are the of the largest corporations in the world and they donate to every party well if that is not collusion then I don't know what is..... When you have corporations gouging the little guy at every turn it is hard to go out on your own. I just want a fair shake for the middle class. Our system is set up to be indebted to the banks, healthcare, and there is no alternate transportation besides using gas to get around. Too much goes to making laws and servicing these laws....We don't let large corporations fail. Why? We let small business' fail every day. We don't have the political power to have a say in government. 99/100 people are not entrepreneurs. Some are just intelligent folks who want to have a home, family, work hard! That is not possible in this country anymore. A truck driver and waitress have to live in squalor with limited healthcare and rent. Our money continues to fly out of this country overseas, to Mexico, and in the pockets of the elite .... I think you are ignoring the real middle class....the forgotten class that works at blue collar jobs.-1 points

While it is a poor decision by President Obama to not visit Arlington this memorial day, he is not the first president to skip the ceremony. He will be giving a speech commemorating the day at the Abe Lincoln cemetery near Chicago. The guy wanted to "go home" and take his family back to Chicago for the holiday. OK, I get that, and there will be veterans who think this is fine and veterans who think he is really disrespecting them and those who gave their lives for this great nation of ours. As a veteran myself and the father of a son currently serving in Iraq, I find it to be a bit of poor judgment and nothing more. When the US is engaged in a war on two fronts and is suffering the loss of some of its soldiers, I would think the "better call" would have been to send the family to Chicago, join them for a day or two and head back on Air Force One for the Memorial day ceremony at Arlington. But, he made the call he wanted to make. Does it say anything about his feelings for the military? I doubt it, but it does give an insight into his thought processes and what he considers important. The fact that he is paying tribute albeit not at Arlington, at least reflects that he is aware of the significance of the day. It's not that big a deal to most veterans, I would think, but it will "stay" in their minds. It is simply an "opportunity missed" by the President.-1 points

This is very encouraging, he really likes Riley. I guess I haven't really considered how Riley will fit into the offense. You have to think Jackson will be the number one choice, then Stradford as the deep threat, followed by Carey and Outlaw. But when it really comes down to it, Riley is still the best athlete on the team. He can really add a different aspect to the offense that DC's will have to account for each week. And don't discount the heart this kid has and the fact that he will want to prove to people that he can still be a huge part of this team, just as Phil Steele does I think Riley will have a hugh season.I am catching some slack for my 7 plus wins prediction on gomeangreen, on this blog, and from friends, but I am not backing down from it, and articles like Phil Steele's is just making my reslove that much stronger, like you said Mr. Vito talent is not the problem it's the use of said talent, this season UNT will use it to have a winning season.-1 points

I was thinking that it's about time for the NY Times to start their 2010 countdown, so I did a bit of searching. I found this: Four teams were in the running for the ignominious spot of No. 120 in the Countdown, but a decision has been made. Just so you know, those four came from the Sun Belt (two), the WAC and the MAC. I won't go any further than that, but here's the hint for tomorrow's No. 120, which will start the four-month show: Our first program won seven games in 2004 — two coaches ago — or only three less than it has won in the five years since. That's a pretty easy one to get things started. In the past, I've had people say the hints were too hard; fewer have said they were too easy. But this is a nice, easy one to get things started. Remember, that team needs to play in either the Sun Belt, WAC or MAC and fit that above criteria. If you'd like, make a guess as to who it may be in the comment section below. Otherwise, check in tomorrow afternoon for the answer. Ok, there's really no need to delay the suspenseful misery any longer. (This has been out since May 6 and I'm sure several GMG posters already saw this and just ignored it like I wish I could.) No. 120: North Texas Ouch! The Sporting News has already started their countdown as well. Fortunately for us, they started from 100 so we're spared from the 120 ranking there. A few notables from The Sporting News' list: 43. Middle Tennessee State 61. Clemson 79. Army 84. Florida International 85. Kansas State 90. Troy-1 points

From Fox News, so I can't speak for it's validity: "OBAMA ISN'T THE FIRST PRESIDENT TO MISS THE CEREMONY. RONALD REAGAN SPOKE AT WEST POINT ONE YEAR AND WENT TO HIS CALIFORNIA RANCH ANOTHER. GEORGE H.W. BUSH DIDN'T GO AT ALL...AND GEORGE W. BUSH DIDN'T GO HIS FIRST TWO YEARS IN OFFICE." You're right Rudy it's pretty sorry. GHWBush didn't go at all, he sent Quayle who used his family's influence to get out of service. W. sent Cheney. Hell, Cheney should have laid 5 wreaths. One for every deferment he got. Obama is going to a service at a national cemetery. It's just in Illinois. Your phony outrage amuses me.-2 points
