In an odd twist of fate, Todd Dodge takes over at quarterback and Riley Dodge moves over to head coach.3 points

I have ZERO problem with the HOF being loaded up with players from those championship teams. None. In the frame of our football history, that group is beyond worthy....a reasonable case could be made for every player mentioned in this thread. Not saying they should all go in, but to "cap" the number of players from one era doesn't make sense to me.2 points

There is no possible way for us to begin the season 0-3 with this coaching staff. I'd be shocked if we weren't 2-1 and Kansas State was worried because of our strong showing at Clemson. Chew on that, Chico haters!2 points

During our time in the Big West - it included about half the schools that are currently in the WAC. Just about all our programs competed terribly in the league and our attendance/support was God awful. Seriously, I think anyone who remembers the Big West would be very hesitant about joining the current WAC.2 points

[Comment From HookEmHookEm: ] Why do you Ticket guys hate on Texas football so much? There is a huge fanbase in Dallas you know. Pandering to ou/SMU/TCU crowd? Friday May 28, 2010 11:14 HookEm 11:15 I guess cuz we have some Sooners on the staff. Personally I don't, and I always have been a Horn fan. Hey, HookEm: Go listen to Randy Galloway if you want someone to slobber all over Texas. The Ticket, thankfully, is like the majority of people in Texas and could care less about the Longhorns.2 points

unm oversigned and had to rid itself of two players. brown wrote a letter to the albuquerque journal saying he wanted to stay. he is a good shot blocker and the people i play basketball with who have season tickets to the loblows talk highly of him. i have lived in albuquerque since 1983, cooler summers than dallas and when the sun goes down the temp drops into the 60's. i miss the green, the rain and denton. i just bought a lot in denton and in the next five years i will be building my home and will be supporting the mean green in all sports. oh yeah, albuquerque must be down to two pretty women, i married one of the three. there are more than three pretty women here, you must of have been on old route 66 looking at the crack whores, the three pretty ones were guys or cops. the crime rate is out of control in albuquerque. say what you will but to get loblow basketball tickets is a feat, they sell the place out. i know the next line is there is nothing to do here. the locals who have never attended the college still support the program and show up to the games. i think the pit holds 18,000 but it is going to hold less because they are adding corporate suites, they are spending more on their remodel than we are on a new football stadium.1 point

Sadly, Oranges go away after U-12. Time to get competitive and not just play for fun. Tatu was the Nolan Ryan of the Sidekicks. The face of the franchise. The Indoor Soccer league has been dead since the early 2000s (at least in Dallas). Brazil & Argentina are the powerhouses of S. America. They compete well on the world stage too. Spain/Germany/England/Italy/Netherlands/Portugal are some other teams to be aware of. Some of the African teams are good too like the Ivory Coast. Usually, if you go by one name, you're either Brazilian, or yeah, you're good. Listen for Messi (sounds like "messee") from Argenina, Chrisiano Ronaldo of Spain, Kaka of Brazil, Xavi from Spain. Beckham will be suited up for England this year. Yes, he is still under contract in LA, but he plays mostly in Europe. Freddy Adu did not make the team. Yet another catastrophe of Nike hyping someone too much. The E.Texan(Nacogdoches) you're talking about is Clint Dempsey. He's probably the best field player on the US team. Mia Hamm is the Jordan of Women's Soccer. She's the reason the Americans were so dominant in the 90's. Great Player. Alexi Lalas was OK, but now he runs some MLS team as a GM or something. All teams are qualified and are in groups of 4 right now (32 total teams). The teams will all play the other teams in their group and the top 2 teams/group advance to the round of 16. After that, it's single elimination all the way to the final. Go for the Americans! Expect them to be #2 in their opening group behind England. After that, who knows... Enjoy the Cup!1 point

About as much as I miss root canals and premature... Seriously, I have been to close to 150 events in fun-filled Fouts Field and will fondly say farewell when we finally finalize football forever. There are things I am curious about regarding the new stadium, including: ** the attention the school will put to accomodating tailgating (and those who like to stake a claim and put down tailgating roots in the same area) ** are solutions being identified to turn tailgaters into game-gaters (wins help)? ** will the athletics department feel compelled to trick up the new stadium with the traditional after-loss celebration we call fireworks? ** whether the birds that apparently vacation over Section H will move to the new stadium (and in which section of the bird flu lottery wheel will said birds land?) ** how close to the field will the fans be, and will their noise remain in the stadium, and how will said noise affect play on the field? ** will Kettle Korn make the trek south? ** will mid-level Mean Green Club donations merit a green-colored rainsuit gift instead of an umbrella that can be awarded (at the stadium!) to he who donates so generously but not used at same stadium? ** will there be dividers placed between urinators in the men's room? ** will monitors placed above the concessions work? ** will the ticket office designate some sections of the stadium as standing and yelling sections so that fans who choose to do either will do so among fan friends, not enemies who chose to do their evening reading at a football stadium instead of a library? ** how likely is it that I know some rich alums well enough to get invited into their club level suite? ** will the old Fouts Field scoreboard (the really old one) be given a proper burial? ** will the deteriorating, maggot-infested corpse of Fouts Field be left standing to remind us of days gone by, or will that last previously mentioned post-game fireworks incorporate some sort of non-radiation bearing explosive that effectively dismisses the old girl? Will the answers to these and other questions provide sweet respite from the post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD), cold sweat sleep interuptions that so befittingly describe my recall of Fouts Field?1 point

I will NOT miss Fouts one bit 1st game : 09/22/09 vs UNLV Most memorable game : 11/23/02 vs NMSU1 point

My first Fouts Field game was against SMU in 2006. I haven't been a Mean Green fan for very long. I have never known this team to be a winner. But in just a few years I have some memories at Fouts. SMU in 2006, my first UNT game. We destroyed SMU 24-6. One month later, 7 overtimes vs FIU, tying an NCAA record. Navy, in 2007, the highest scoring regulation game in NCAA history. Double overtime game in the driving rain again Ohio last year. But my favorite memory of Fouts will be the documentary film I participated in where I got to see the guts of Fouts - the locker rooms, the press box, the concession stands, and the horrible state of the old lady. And my favorite thing about Fouts is the effort to get rid of it.1 point

There were (and will be some made this fall) some great on the field memories (and off the field for that matter) at Fouts Field over the years. However, as far as facilities are concerned, no one I know will miss anything about Fouts.1 point

Ok I've really never followed this soccer game so people please help me out a little. I'm staying at a beach house in a few weeks with nothing but soccer fans so I need a little info. Here's what I know : When I played that 1 year when I was 5 they gave us oranges at the half I met some guy named Tatu ? that played for the Dallas Sidekicks ? a long time ago in the indoor league. I think he was pretty good. Is that league still around ? I think Brazil & Argentina are the powerhouses ? Usually if you go by 1 name your pretty good ? Pele , Rolando & and a Maradona ? That Beckman guy plays , but is no longer very good... Is he still in America ? I've heard of Freddy Adu because he signed realy young ( like 13) and some guy from East Texas is really good ( saw that on espn) I've got to meet Mia Hamm a few times because she grew up in Wichita Falls and she gave me a autographed UNC hat and a autograph of Lexi Laulis ( something like that ) so I've heard of him and know what he looks like Other than that I don't know anything Can someone just explain to me how the World Cup works ? Have all the teams already qualified or do they have to have " play in " games ? Thanks very much in advance. If this oil spill gets to Fl,AL I'll probably just be stuck at the sports bars & house watching this so I need a little info to sound somewhat informed1 point

The last time we were invited to the WAC they only wanted one team. Had they offered ASU and ULL along with us I believe we would have gone. A non AQ conference consisting of teams primarily from the Mountain and Pacific time zones is not a good option (Idaho, Utah St., SJSU, Fresno, Nevada, and Hawaii are to far away). A 12 team WAC with an eastern division that includes LT, NMSU, NT,and 3 additional Central time zone teams might work. Nonetheless, I would want the option to leave on short notice with minimal fees to join and to exit.1 point
-
I am getting there, too. If we were to say no - the WAC really has no other choie but to offer an invitation to a school that is ready to move up - Texas State at San Marcos... or a school that promises to move up, UTSA... or BOTH. How would we all feel about the Belt if the two upstarts in Texas were now in the WAC and we were still in the Belt? We have to show separation from them. Agreed about the budget problems of the Belt. If we do stick with the Belt, the schools need to make a commitment to athletic success, monetarily. NT, WKY, USA, Troy, MTSU, UL, and the F_U's have all put the resources into their programs. ULM is a Southland school playing in the Belt... their budget is an embarrasment to Div I. If the WAC invite comes around, we should probably take it this time. We can afford the WAC now - our new fee kicks in this year after the stadium is completed... we would have a legitimate reason to max out the 10% annual increase for the next 8 years to cover the increased travel costs. It might be time to get a little WACKY just to show separation from the upstarts in Texas.1 point

If Boise were to leave the WAC, and they were the only team to leave, I would still be in favor of joining the WAC. By leaving Boise will prove that dominating that league and winning impressive ooc games is a magic formual for advancing in the college football world. We won 4 straight conference titles in the Belt, and most people still didn't care. We won 26 straight conference games in that span. We were never able to put up impressive ooc wins like Boise, but most of those ooc schedules weren't intended to be wins. They were money games. Troy has won 4 straight titles now, and they have some impressive ooc wins, but big conferences aren't looking to add them. I think it comes down to the Sun Belt being weighed down by under funded teams, that have to take bodybag games to keep in operation. A Sun Belt team has no realistic chance at an undefeated season like Boise, be cause funding issues will always require them to accept bodybag games on the road against the reigning, or future National Championship team. In my opinion, that's not a formual for growth or success. Any way I look at it, if we can't get into C-USA then I'm ready for the WAC. I don't think our program can afford to stay in the Sun Belt for 10 more seasons. If we do, Texas State and UTSA will probably pass us by.1 point

A WAC invite is probably coming, but we need more teams in the east. If the WAC can't attract anyone in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, or Arkansas, I say we take a pass....1 point

Harry and others, Thanks for your support of Scott. I hope my reply doesn't spark personal attacks, but will help folks decide if Scott deserves consideration. The criteria for UNT "Hall of Fame" consideration states.... The following are basic guidelines for considering a person as an inductee into the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame: 1. The person should have made an outstanding contribution to North Texas athletics. 2. The inductee should have an honorable and respectable image since leaving the University of North Texas. 3. Candidates are not eligible for induction until at least five years after they left the University of North Texas. 4. A strong consideration will be given those student-athletes who graduated from the University of North Texas. As a parent, of course, I truly believe Scott meets or exceeds the membership criteria for this prestigious honor. Since becoming the youngest Division 1 starting quarterback in the nation in the fall of 2000, Scott has represented The University of North Texas in a positive manner. During his football career, Scott achieved the title of UNT’s All Time Passing Efficiency Leader and high standings in numerous other statistical categories, including 3rd in Touchdowns Thrown (50) and finishing 4th behind Maher, Ramsey and Davis as UNT’s Career Passing Leader and Total Offense Leader. As a 4 year starting quarterback and 2 year Team Captain, Scott was instrumental in helping lead the team to a record setting, 25 game conference winning streak, along with 4 Sunbelt Championships and 4 New Orleans Bowl appearances. While leading a run-based offense “gaudy” passing numbers were not possible, but Scott had the honor of calling the plays (or direction of the run) that led to North Texas having back to back NCAA Rushing Leaders. During his career, Scott was selected as a 2 time “All Sunbelt Conference Quarterback,” a 3 time “Team Offensive Player of the Year” and in 2004 “Team MVP.” Additionally, in 2001, Scott was selected by Dave Campbell and Texas Football Magazine as the “Texas College Football Player of the Year.” While those that saw Scott play can attest to his leadership, toughness and never give up attitude on the field, it’s his off-field, team first attitude that I’m personally the most proud of. Many remember his playing the last 6 games of 2002 in pain with a torn ACL and then returning after a missed season with a torn pectoral muscle, but it was his decision to return to UNT after the loss of his younger brother Aaron in 2003 that showed his character and leadership. While struggling with Aaron’s death and wanting to take a semester off to be home with family, Scott told me he just had to return for the sake of the team. “He owed it to them.” Scott’s leadership and mental toughness was again tested when he was asked by coaches to help the team cope and remain focused after the death of his teammate and good friend, Andrew Smith. From talking with coaches, he was extremely successful in dealing with these very tough issues. Since entering UNT in 2000 and graduating in 2005 with a B.S. Degree in Engineering Technologies, Scott has maintained an honorable and respectable image. He was selected as both the Sunbelt Conference, Student Athlete of the Year and the American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineer of the Year in 2004. Also in 2004, Scott was asked to be a graduation ceremony speaker for the 1st class of graduating seniors of the recently established North Texas Engineering Department. Scott participated as a Junior Mean Green Mentor, a Letterman’s Club member and sponsor for the Andrew Smith Scholarship Fundraiser. In 2007, Scott was recognized for his accomplishments and was inducted into his school district's “Hall of Honor,” the youngest member ever. Scott is currently a partner in a Lumber Construction/Marketing firm and active in his church, where he and his wife Lindsay teach a Special Needs Children Sunday School class. In closing, Yes, I'm a proud parent and biased, but I've tried to provide some information I believe to be true to help others decide. Ultimately it will be decided by the recommendations or lack thereof from fans, teammates, coaches and the HOF Committee. Thanks for reading, Sincerely, Stan Hall "Green Eagle"1 point

With your $15,000,000 say goodbye to ULL ($12,000,000), USA ($12,875,000)and Arkansas State ($10,745,000)along with ULM. Also would make FAU ($14,110,000) and Troy ($14,389,000) borderline along with saying no thanks to Tech (13,900,000). The Belt is what it is. The lowest hanging fruit on the tree.1 point

No, you don't terminate anybody based on the first three games, NT will most likely be the underdog against all three schools although I feel like two are very winnable. What possible good could come out of changing coaches that early? if you remember RV let lame duck DD coach after he had been terminated, an unfortunate move for all but it certainly doesn't point to RV making any rash changes. My only hope, is that our AD will have a new coach picked or a very short list before he announces a decision. I don't want what we got last year. RV ostensibly reviewing the coach after the year with apparently no other options identified. I was far bringing back Dodge at that point, rather then going through a long progress and ending up with most likely a hurried choice. I do think Dodge has a good chance to turn it around this year, however if the team doesn't show improvement in the first half of the season, I hope the athletic administration is doing everything they can to select the next coach.1 point
-
Hypothetically, how many coaches actually retain assistants from a failed regime ? They want a staff that they assemble and are personally comfortable with. New coaches bring a new enthusiasm and approach. I'm hoping that this year will be successful, but if not we need a total change as we move forward with our new stadium.1 point

This thread = desperation for forum content. Except for Auburn with Tony Franklin, even assistants aren't fired 3 games into the season. Under these criteria, it would have been hard to justify keeping Dickey for the second half of the 2001 season. Of course, he had beaten then 1-AA Boise State twice by then. I did love the win over Texas Tech, but New Mexico State was pretty bad the two times we beat them. Considering the level of competition he was playing against at Louisville (buy hey, he owned Western Kentucky), Schnellenberger should have been ripe for firing by the 3rd game of his 4th year, instead of hanging around to go 8-3 and setting Louisville on the right path. I mean, Schnelly's only multiple wins against anyone recognizable as D1 in those years were against Tulane; the second one of those was in Mack Brown's 3rd season, when he finally went 6-6, after starting out 1-10 and 4-7. My prediction: this thread may be interesting by the 3rd game of next season. In the meantime, I'm dreaming about Thompson or Tune throwing the long one downfield, when Dunbar isn't running free in the opposing secondary. At this time of year, a man can dream big.1 point

I heard some sad news, and I hope it is not true. The President will not be visiting Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. I hear he is going on vacation. If this is true, this really bothers me. Our soldiers deserve to be honored. I don't know why he is choosing not to attend, and right now I don't care to speculate. I don't want to make this political. I don't care if you are a Republican or Democrat. I just want to request a favor. If we have any Eagles or know anyone in the D.C. area, it would be nice if you people might stop by Arlington for a few minutes and pay respect. As a nation, we must not forget what these soldiers gave for us to be free. This weekend I will talk to my great uncle, who fought in WWII, and I'll be thinking about my wifes grand father, who served in Korea. Have a good Memorial Day weekend, and thank you to all of our military.0 points

Anything is better than this dying sun suck conference. For the life of me I can't understand why ANYONE would be against a conference jump. Budget...that's going to be changing soon. Travel...we don't travel well as it is because no one wants to see us play these sucky schools that no one cares about. So what if BSU leaves the WAC...it's still light years ahead of what we are currently in. Their members are better recognized schools, they play better against named opponents, and they have a better opportunity to jump into a better conference in time. Lets face it...if getting into a better conference is a stepping stone then moving into the WAC is our first step. No other conference is going to be looking to raid the SunBelt, even the CUSA is looking at the Mtn West instead of the Sunbelt. If we pass on another opportunity our football program is doomed. I for one would rather attend a game in our new stadium against Fresno St, Hawaii, or Nevada than ULaLa, or FIU. It's a no brainer.0 points

"Miss" is a strong word. I'm sure I'll have some nostalgia for the place, and I'll probably be sad when they actually knock the old thing down. But I am fairly confident I'll never wish our team were back playing there once we are in the new stadium.0 points

Obviously, the Belt picked ULM; how else did they become a member. I would be a little careful throwing around reported athletic budgets, because there are practically no reporting standards and they can be very misleading. For example, private school tuition such as SMU could amount to over a $6m difference between their budget and NT and yet their real out of pocket costs are close to the same. Unless they have recently changed, athletes tuition in Louisiana is not counted in the athletic budget. A lot if not most universities do about everything they can to hide the obvious, they lose a lot of money on athletes. Instead of berating ULM maybe we should hire someone from there, with their budget they are playing the same number of sports and have about the same number of coaches as NT. I am not so sure that NT is not going to have more budget problems with this new stadium. Unless, they have some major donations they are keeping undercover; paying for half of the stadium may put a definite drain on the budget and revenues that would normally go for operating expenses may be used for debt service. I certainly hope that doesn't happen but even new revenue streams such as premium seating and suites may not be enough to cover stadium construction costs. Back to ULM, based on what I have recently read all football programs in Louisiana expect LSU are heavily subsidized by the state. ULL and ULM may get over half their athletic budget from the state. With more state cutbacks probably coming in Louisiana, it may be very tough for not only ULM but ULL and La Tech to remain viable in the FB division. Just be aware that weeding out the undesired may have some very bad consequences. NT is at the bottom in almost every category when compared to the FB schools as a whole; budget, attendance, and stadium size.-1 points
