  1. This post is a fine example of another of NT's traditions. Those that find something wrong with everything NT does or does not do.

  2. So according to you, people like myself who never attended UNT and my wife who only worked there for a short time should have no say. I suppose you think we should just cancel our season tickets too right? We need more people in the community to support the athletic programs and we go to more basketball games than most students...

  3. Stick by the supposed 7 win ultimatum. As much as I hate to say it, you have to give Teflon Todd a legitimate chance to get there. As soon as the 6th loss goes down, it all becomes moot anyway and he will be a sitting duck. There's no benefit in firing him early, IMO. I'm confident he'll be canned before next season.

  4. We used to play Boise, New Mexico State, Nevada every year. It was the same tired excuse then with these teams (no one wants to see us play [insert team of choice here] because no one cares) that it is now with our current conference mates. Why is Boise so attractive now? Is it because they are in the WAC or because they have put together a winning program? We did not capitalize on our run at the beginning of the decade and we don't compete or win against top 25/top 50, etc. teams. If we did that on a regular basis, then everything else would take care of itself. Keith

  8. Could you please explain this arrogance you speak of. As a TCU alumnus I always root for UNT and have been extremely excited to see y'all in the tournament over the last few years. If you're talking about football scheduling, try putting yourself in our shoes. Most TCU fans don't even want to schedule smew anymore, it does us no good. Not knocking your program, but TCU is trying to build a national reputation more than a north Texas reputation (which we've achieved to it's fullest as a small private school). It would be cool to have more local games (i.e. Oregon State at Jerryworld), but at this point it doesn't fit with our goals to play UNT or smew. Again, I'm not trying to downplay your team or sound arrogant, although I'm sure it will come off like that, and look forward to watching some games at your new stadium (which looks awesome). Best of luck next season guys. Go Frogs Go Mean Green

  10. Sam was dominant. Randy could throw a mean ball, but had eyebrow issues. Bill's bald head was distracting, but I liked how he could throw the ball out of the screen and have it just land on some guy.

  13. Valid point... ...but you've never seen me at a baseball game, either. LOL!

  14. I guess you have never heard of baseball. It takes 3 plus hours to get a 1-0 game in baseball...at least soccer gets it done in 90 min.

  16. Silver, I really not sure you actually believe this. All fans, students, faculty, staff, alumni, etc. helped to create the traditions that I witnessed and have enjoyed by having graduated from three different universities and having attended a fourth. Several schools I know have had BIG TIME traditions started by a member of the coaching staff, some have had faculty/staff input and, yes, some were 100% student driven. But, anyone who supports the Mean Green gets a hand in creating and maintaining traditions. Many traditions would die away if it were not for the fans (grads or not) who support "their" universities win, lose or draw. I, for one, am plenty happy to have folks like Army of Dad and Army of Mom who are not grads, but who support the Mean Green. In fact, one of the biggest local supports of the Mean Green attended, but never graduated from UNT. Should he not be involved in setting and maintaining traditions for the Mean Green? Also, many traditions just develop over time. They are not planned by anyone. While we often disagree on politics, we seldom disagree on support for the Mean Green. On this one, we will just have to "agree to disagree". GO MEAN GREEN!

  17. Traditions are made by the fans, be those fans students, faculty, or local supporters. The students should make up the majority of that group because the should be the most fervent supporters. However we don't need to be turning people away from the program they support because they aren't "fan enough" or aren't a student. We have been talking about getting more community support for years and that attitude is not helpful. Besides, traditions only become traditions if they are kept and followed. If the fans don't like the tradition then they won't follow them and they don't become traditions in the first place...

  18. You have the right to have use of the seats that you purchased, and pull for NT if you choose. But I don't believe that you should be allowed to be a decision maker when it comes to traditions at North Texas.

  20. I tend to agree with some who have posted here before about how Dodge should have retained some of Dickey's assistants, some of whom have done quite well after being hired elsewhere. If a hypothetical new coach should be given a free hand, shouldn't the decision to retain one or more assistants be his prerogative?

  22. I think Scott Hall was a very nice player and a very decent person...but Hall of Fame worthy? That might be a stretch, especially considering the staples of the championship teams were the run game and the defense. Cobbs and Kennedy are no-brainers...maybe mix in a LB like Spencer or Hurd and an OL like Lineberry or Brewster.

  24. 1. If we have a losing season, I want RV to clean house and give pink slips to ALL of the coaches. Wipe the slate clean. 2. No more excuses, no more 'we're making progress', just NO MORE. It's time to produce or hit the road. 3. Don't be concerned about losing recruits, if we have another bad season we wouldn't pull that well anyhow. 3. If SMU can find a coach that can turn their horrible program into a winner quickly, so can we. SMU went 1-11 the year before Jones was hired. 1-11 in his first year and TO A BOWL GAME in his 2nd year. It can be done. 4. Don't get me started on our conference situation. 5. Our new stadium will be a reality soon. I want a winning team playing there in 2011 or a new coaching staff to match our new stadium.

  26. I hear what your saying too. But, TCU is now in a place where we can schedule a Clemson, Oklahoma or Oregon State and it not hurt them too much if they lose. I don't make the schedules, I don't have any inside information I'm just giving you the general viewpoint of a TCU fan. We're both trying to get better, think bigger and look out for ourselves (which we should). For that, much respect to UNT for putting your money where your dream is.

  27. I heard what you've written and does make sense. But, consider it this way: what does UT or UCLA or Florida have to gain by scheduling TCU? Again, a win means very little to them and a lot destroys their season. The coaches and ADs know TCU is good enough to potentially beat them so why run the risk for no reward? TCU is in a similar situation, just much higher on the food chain. How about TCU schedules a North Texas home and home every five or six years? That is what you would like Texas to do isn't it? And I have a number of TCU and SMU alumni as friends and the vast majority root for the local team in any game where their own school isn't playing just as I do.

  28. I think we should treat all coaches at NT the same. Dodge should get the same treatment Coach Jones receives during the basketball season. If we don't come out and score 35 points in the first quarter against Clemson @ Clemson, then Dodge should be shot on the spot, tied to the top of the team bus (ala Aunt Edna of "Vacation" fame) and thrown in to the Mississippi River on the team's trip home.

  29. But dodge already changed the color of our jersey's, so he is one step ahead of DD for his last game.

  30. The current definition of "season" is 12 games. We have brought TD back for a fourth season and owe the man the opportunity to coach this team of good young men to 7 wins during the "season". To put it another way, I'm staying for the WHOLE Mass...no ducking out the side door after communion for me!

  31. The time to evaluate the season is at the end of the season. In 2001 we got off to a miserable start. After the La-Monroe game I had pretty much given up hope for the season. I came very close to mailing back my tickets for the rest of the home games. One week later we upset Middle Tennessee and started our run to New Orleans. I was sure glad that I did not mail back those tickets. I do not think Todd Dodge can get it done but he deserves the entire season to show what he can do.

  35. I'm not sure if I follow. Chico and D-Lo will both have pretty close to total control over the offense and the defense. If we lose the first 3 games, at least one of those two will be every bit as much to blame as Coach Dodge. So we then throw the added responsibility of head coach upon one of them instead of allowing them to direct all their focus on their side of the line? I don't agree, unless something is pointing to Dodge as the problem. At the end of the season, if we have a season like any of the last 5, there needs to be a complete housecleaning. But really, considering this is before the season even starts, I see this as an unnecessary thread. Our recent history has not been kind, but can't we show a little hope for the new season?

  40. What's the point of a message board then ? You want me to pump you full of Green Kool Aid. How about if we start out 3 - 0 , should we give Dodge a extension ? Of the 2 cases , which one is more likely ? Your right, our past is why there is liitle hope and until something is proven on the field this is a very legit question

  41. Well I'm assuming he won't be able to rally the troops through such a start, thus making him on the path to getting fired is all.

  42. OK, I can't name 10 with expected speed...but, how about I start with two... Micah Mosley - I think he is the fastest back we have on the roster. Have you ever noticed how this kid can motor? In fact, I not sure UNT couldn't use him on some down field pass plays. Jaamal Jackson - my $$$ might just be on him to be the overall fastest UNT has in the 40. Come on...someone else surely has an opinion. I know this isn't conference realignment stuff, but hey, it's the off season with 100 days to go! Let's talk some UNT football! GO MEAN GREEN!

  44. Let's say we start out 0 - 3. Do we go ahead and fire TD & let Chico or DeLoach take over for the rest of the season ? Would give us a clean slate & must needed boost before conference starts I don't care if we lose by 7 pts to Rice and 3 pts to Army , moral victories are over for this era. No reason we can't beat Rice & Army. I really hope we start out 2 - 1 and have a ton of confidence heading into FAU. I think I speak for 99% of all of our fans when I say " we can't handle another poor start" I think naming Chico HC after the Army game ( if we start 0-3) would be our only chance to win a few games in Belt play and gain some enthusiasm as we head into the new stadium * I hope we don't have to think about this , but what if ? *

  45. Good point. We have a great tradition of... lets see... screaming 'North... Texas' at random times until it finally just dies off. Firing an annoying cannon (even after a loss). Oh, and we've stolen traditions from other schools by making up stories of how we 'earned' them somehow. You're right, we just need to recognize the great traditions already in place.
    -5 points
  46. I completely agree. Our "traditions" are terrible and the only people that think they are good have probably never been to a large school with real traditions to witness how great they can be. You also forgot about the one of parking the old car on the track...what are we going to do about that one when we don't have a track anymore? I guess we can just park it in the parking lot with the rest of the cars. Or what about the tradition of leaving at half time or not even coming into the games? Clearly we need to just get more people to adhere to these.
