Anyone who blames anyone for this and other oil spills better not have the following: a gasoline powered car electricity anything made of plastic a bicycle that does not have a rusty chain a wagon without a squeaky wheel Look in the mirror to find who is at fault. You and me. This reminds me of the time people DROVE THIER CARS to the Exxon building here in Houston to protest the Valdez incident. That was their oil on the birds and otters.2 points

They really don't have anything to gain by playing UNT at the moment or in recent years. The Cougs have BCS bid dreams while we are still trying to beat the F_U's of the world A win over UNT would not gain any national respect and a loss would be embarrassing. They have enough in state conference games already with Rice,UTEP & Smu while also being able to get teams like Tech , Oklahoma St & Oregon to home and homes with If we can start winning 6+ games a year , pack the new stadium then teams like UofH , UTEP should be a priority for home and homes2 points

http://www.aolnews.com/nation/article/pew-poll-americans-may-be-warming-up-to-socialism/19472978 qoute: "Socialism," two decades beyond the taint left by a collapsed Soviet Union, is still a negative for most Americans but far from all, the study showed. And some segments of the public -- younger Americans and Democrats among them -- favored or opposed "socialism" and "capitalism" in equal measure. Well, looks like the liberalization of the education system has come home to roost. So much for being your own man and making your own way.1 point

I think this is an interesting topic for many reasons. One, it really it hits home on the mountain that UNT faces with the other current Division-1 teams in Texas. The Big XII teams in Texas probably won't play here again, even with a new stadium, because of Jerry World and the Cotton Bowl aggressively hosting games for them. The non-AQ teams that have something, like TCU and UH, have no interest in playing us becasue the benefit just really isn't there for them if they win big versus the huge cost of a loss or close win. As a matter of fact, when we lost at TCU 16-10 back in 2002, their fans at Amon Carter were really bad-mouthing their AD for scheduling that game. But, with teams like Rice or SMU, which have been trying to gain traction and get butts in the seats, UNT has been a good team to schedule. UTEP could certainly fit in with them, too. To me, though, this is why I think extending a hand to UTSA or Texas State to get in the SBC would pay huge dividends for our future. We can get an in-state rivalry going finally and try and schedule OOC with other schools like NMSU, Tulsa, or LA Tech again to fill in the schedule. I also think that you could get a lower-tier Big Ten, PAC-10, ACC, or MWC team to come this way. If I were RV, I would also be on the horn with Boise State, Fresno State, and Nevada today to schedule a series. These teams have solid name recognition, esepcially Boise, and those teams would love some Texas exposure. We have to get creative here, but it is going to be easier to draw quality OOC teams from outside of Texas with our new stadium. Looking at the WAC is great because they don't come to the Metroplex like CUSA or MWC teams already do. If we had an OOC schedule of SMU/Rice/UTEP, one of the other "local" non-AQ teams I mentioned earlier, one of those WAC teams or a BCS lower-tier team, and one money game, I think that would look pretty good to most of us.1 point

I think I may have posted this scenario a few years back when the UTSA program was just starting... for what it is worth my good friends wife is a Prof at UTSA so I picked her brain for the new programs info....she is NOT a sports fan so the info had to be translated by her husband Here is what she said the UTSA plan was 1. follow the model of University of South Florida and U Central Florida 2. hire a big time coach and recruit the big cities 3. Dont get trapped into a small time conference...they are shooting for CUSA right out of the gate when they become D-1 or whatever the heck it is now..... IMO they need to be our travel "partners" if and when we leave the BELT...more positives than negatives1 point

We couldn't be SMU's travel partner. They'd want our players to iron their pink shirts, mow the grass at their alumni supported condo in University Park and change the oil in the BMW's.1 point

Her political thought process is already pretty well formed. She is a part of the most liberal Presidential administration since... FDR? You don't get the solicitor general position unlwss you are completely on board with that administration. You will be arguing for that administration in front of the supreme court. The President is going to make sure that whoever holds this position is in ideological lock step with his administration.1 point

I don't find that to have been a big drawback for Rehnquist (whom I consider a good Chief Justice although he held much more conservative views than me) or, going further back and further left, Louis Brandeis or Harlan Fiske Stone. I do want to see what she has to say; one thing about those gentlemen I mentioned is that they forthrightly expressed strongly held beliefs on controversial issues. In other words, what does she believe, what stands has she taken, and how would that inform her judicial thought process?1 point

Isn't the Tulsa World simply reporting the blog post? Nebraska brings little to the Big 10. If they have truly been offered, they would have to be ecstatic about getting while the getting's good.1 point

Missouri - "No comment" Big 10 - "No comment" "Read my lips, no new taxes" "I did not have sex with that woman"1 point

I appreciate your comments, it is nice to hear from someone who has been there. The facts are that the NCAA limits scholarships based on all three sports, indoor track, outdoor track, and cross country; so although the sports are different they all draw from the same group of athletes. The current ship limits are 12.6 for men and 18 for women thanks to title 9 considerations. I would hope that NT does offer the maximum. I do wonder how WKU with 10 foreigners on their men's team and eight on their women's does it and stays within the rules. What WKU and to a slightly less extent MTSU does, is fill their cross distance team with foreigners, who also dominate the distance events in track. This is a proven strategy used by many schools but it unusual to see a school like WKU who also seems to have a very deep track team. Usually those type of foreign dominated teams are thin and seldom win conference meets but do well in regional and national competition.1 point

I wouldn't put it quite like that. I will say that the nine returning defensive starters in 2007 were wasted on a high school coach as coordinator and businessman as secondary coach (great hires). The problems since then was that the defensive side of the ball was largely neglected in recruiting. It's one of the areas I think Dodge severely underestimated when he came up here. You need really good athletes on the defensive side of the ball at this level. Dodge spent too much time signing receivers who never panned out his first two seasons when he should have been giving another scholarship or two to the defensive side of the ball - especially on the line. That being said, I don't see how DeLoach doesn't continue the improvement. Dropping the points against by 11/12 point in 2009 was excellent. 2010 will show a full year under Charr Gahagan in strength and conditioning as well as a second full season of only college coaches on that side of the ball. If one season with a full compliment of college coaches accounted for an 11/12 point drop, I suspect a second season, with the coaching stability, will lead to another tightening of the defense. I also expect 10-15 more points per game on the offensive side of the ball when all is said and done. Any regular poster on here should recognize that I'm not historically a sunshine pumper. But, what I believe in and have preached - longtime college experience in the coaching staff - is here. The rubber will meet the road one way or the other. I'll either be right about coaching playing the deciding part at this level, or I will not. And, again, the Sun Belt ain't the SEC or Big 12. So, the hole has never been as deep as some here have claimed it was. We can get out of it in short order; that parts are now in place.1 point

I've come to grips, especially during my years on the team, with the fact that track will never get much attention outside of its already established fan base. Not only here, but nation wide. And it is understandable due to the way everything is set up. Football makes the money and track does not. Therefore, I am a football fan too. But please, just because of one bad weekend, don't assume that the track program is in need of repairs. It is one of the most consistent sports NT has. Thanks for the welcome! I've been visiting here on and off but never have posted until now. I will be sure and update on track and field/xc. Go mean green! Edit: I don't think that the team has the max number of scholarships that it can have while WKU most likely does. Plus, the guys have the max amount of guys on the team that RV has allowed (title nine). As for 6 championships a year... cross is different from track and indoor is different from outdoor. Events are different in each. That plays a big role in it. Also, it is difficult to stay in shape for all three championships year around. But, I think this all comes back to limited resources. The cross country guys have only had 6 guys on the team when all others had 7. This has hurt the team the past couple of years. And WKU dominates indoor and outdoor for the reasons I have already stated. While I do give these excuses, I too would like to see championships. Its sucks seeing the program be consistently at the top but never winning one. I think regionals and conference has always been an issue in track nation wide. While the coaches are expected to produce regional qualifiers, they are also expected to do well in conference. Sometimes these meets work together, but sometimes they don't. This is the first year that conference winners are not automatically qualified to regionals. I'm not a fan of it. As far as the press releases let out, I don't think they tell much because they don't believe people care. I'm sure if you were to email them they would tell you everything. I don't know though, but I do agree with you. More info on the team would be nice.1 point

What irks me, and what I can't fathom, is the "I'm gonna improve the program by refusing to attend games" attitude.1 point

I think it is past time for RV to look at the football program. But that is beside the point. As an alumni, I follow the track team and have been since I finished competing. This is my first time on this board. As a letterman this is what I have seen... It is not necessarily the program that needs replacing or fixing, the fact is the team's resources are slim. The coaches are great and are some of the best ones anywhere around. The men's program has been hit hard with title nine and the budget is next to nothing. WKU has been tearing a part the conference the last few years because of two main reasons: they have a at least 10 foreign athletes and they have a ton of athletes (I think almost double what NT has). They can field athletes in pretty much every event and we can't. That is a huge advantage in track and field. If you look at it though, this is the best team NT has had in years. They have more regional qualifiers than previously and finished 2nd in indoor. Bad meets happen. It just sucks that the bad meet was conference. NT has been placing consistently in the top 3 to 4 the previous years. Same with cross country where most of the guys are walk-ons. The cross country team can't even field a full team because the football team needs back up kickers (title nine). It is frustrating to see you guys not give a crap about track but once a year. They do a hands down better job than the dadgum football team yet you think they suck because they don't win conference. Wake up, they are one of the better teams NT has. With more resources, no telling what those coaches could accomplish.1 point

Then why mention it? Outside of getting in another red meat buzz-word. Lesbian is already in the record here (though UNT90 was not advocating it, just pointing out that it will be used by some, right or wrong). All these 'heard tidbits' do is whip up a frenzy that makes any reasoned analysis of her record, writings, and career mute in the face of pro and anti partisan histrionics. Edit: Beat me to it CMJ, and with better research I hope. Of course, we must always, always hold people to crap they said when they were younger, right? Writing stuff decades ago sucks0 points

Who would be the next Big XII schools ? http://www.810whb.com/blog/35090 points

The querstion will be who takes their place in the Big 12. I think, at minimum, Missouri bolts. Nebraska could stay. They'd really be tearing apart good, traditional ties if they left. But, the money is so much better - even if the quality of football isn't near what the Big 12 currently puts up. Missouri has already proven that even in their best years they can't get near OU or Texas. Nebraska's almost 10 years irrelevant since their last BCS bowl bid in ... 2001? 2002? Outside of Arkansas, who I say is going nowhere, I don't really see any fit for a new player in the Big 12. I'm talking size of the college and stadium in addition to tradition. A loss of Missouri would be fine is Arkansas could be picked up. But, it can't. TCU is competitive now - but, it doesn't really play the best competition week in and week out. Our stadium won't be near big enough. Houston or SMU? None of it really rings right. Too bad there can't just be a tournament like in basketball that gives everyone equal shots at bigger money. If that were the case, I'm sure conferences would make better sense geographically. For us, we've got to just keep chopping the wood. No sense is crying over the past. We've truly got to start felling giants on the football field year in and year out. We need to be the rebel program that gives big fellas a black eye. If we can do that over the next few years, people will take us more seriously in these discussions. From a purely "on the paper" standpoint, we should be included, but because we are uncompetitive...well. If we were competitive and had better facilities, we'd have in favor, to wit: -Enrollment would be bigger than all but Texas and Texas A&M -Public school, like 11 of the current 12 Big 12 teams -Realistic driving distance for all Big 12 South opponents -Good proximity to DFW airport thanks to the Bush Tollway -Another place to showcase a team in front of Texas preps I wish like hell we were players in this conversation. We really do need to become The Little Engine That Could among schools our size. We just need that on the field success so badly to get it in gear.-1 points

Wait a minute. BP donated to Obama more than any other politician. Obama gave the green light for more offshore drilling. Just a few weeks later this happened. Coincidence? Why does Obama hate the Gulf Coast so much?-1 points

Obama has been president for a year and a half. Democrats have controlled Congress since 2006. They've had a filibuster-proof majority since Jan 2009. If they wanted to stop offshore drilling or impose heavy regulation, they could have done it by now. Your party is full of spaghetti-spined politicians who don't have the sack to make the changes they promised to make.-1 points

Nice job BP...no sense in investing in Green Energy...We have Oil Reserves floating all around us. Potential negative impact on Gulf Coast Economy is going to be enormous. Hopefully a war will break out or something. I am sure BP will pony up for this disaster. Or will the tax payer...huh!!!-1 points
