  1. The impossible is what nobody can do, until somebody does it. I don't know who said it first, I've seen many attributions (of couse, Hornfans.com would claim that Darrell Royal said it. At that site, they attribute everything from 'Let There Be Light' to 'It's A Quarter After One, I'm A Little Drunk, and I Need You Now' to him). Anyway, it's a good little saying. Many people would say it's impossible for us to win the Sun Belt this year, but I sez otherwise! Also, I'm going to put it here at my desk so I can see it while I'm wrangling with underwriters who forget why their insurance companies exist.

  2. McCoy did not go in the first two rounds; therefore, he was not a game decider. So, of course, Ryan Leaf was wonderful, and Tom Brady, sixth round draft choice, is awful. What it takes to be successful in college and in the pros is not always the same. As far as can McCoy make it, I suggest we wait and see. PC changed a lot of games for us. Are we going to disregard that because the pros were not lined up for him when he finished.

  3. Yep, just like. We've had great JUCO transfers. I just like to watch the players grow and mature. And, what can I say? I like watching the big men.

  4. Man, TFLF is getting me fired up with all the positivity lately - and a Todd Dodge quote at the end of the postings? I am most certain now that The RealLonnie Finch has abducted TFLF

  5. All good points about why we would be attractive to other conferences (media market, recruiting base, ect) but the reason why we are not being courted right now is because we do not make use of these things. We have a great media market, but how often do you hear about us on the radio? On TV? How about seeing a regular season basketball game on a local channel (other than UNT's station)? We do not use our market that is available. Since we do not use our market, no big donors or businesses are going to want to sponsor us because they will not get any worth while advertising for their money. If UNT is not all over the local media markets, then how can we expect high caliber recruits, who have grown up hearing all about UT, A&M and now TCU, to want to come to UNT? Everyone it tickled pink when they see a 30 second spot on the local news about UNT but I say that should be considered an insult. You want to be in a power conference? Go down to Austin or College Station and watch their local TV, see how often you see any new not related to their universities or teams. Its a total different world and that is what we need to strive for. I know that the front office is trying, I do, and I also know that the rest of the campus still has the mentality that athletics are separate from academics and their programs. UNT as a whole does not realize that the university encompasses everything and that all parts should support each other. If you dont believe me, then go talk to some of the heads of the colleges or depts. All they care about is their small little corner which they have direct control over. Think of it this way, you (future conference) are looking at buy 2 cars. One (UNT) is a 1969 Camaro SS, but it is rusted out and missing parts. The owner says that if you buy it they will try to replace some of what is missing. Then the other (UTEP, just for example) is a 2008 Chevy Malibu, great condition, has everything you need, will be able to be used to pick up other people immediately and has low miles. Which are you going to buy? Yes the Camaro has the potential but it will cost the buyer so much time and money that the investment is not worth it. Unless these things change we will NEVER be in a power conference. NEVER. Period. Sorry for the rant guys, but I bleed my green with a passion and I just want to see UNT grow.

  7. You mean like White, Thompson, Williams, Knox, & Holmen?

  8. Vicious! I always love when someone prefaces his statement with "no offense, but" type statement, you know someone is about to get blasted. You didn't think labeling someone a "clumsy , tall white guy' would get some reaction? Have you seen Knox play? He is tall and white but I think he moves well for a 6'10 player and has a good stroke. FYI, I have no relationship with Knox, at all. I do know that seldom does a team like NT get a legit ready to play 6' 10 player out of high school. Those types go to the Dukes, UT's or directly to the pros. You will notice that it is common for teams to recruit players like this in hopes that they will mature into players and the benches are full of them. The reason is, if that player does develop then you have a player that could be a real difference-maker for your program. I saw enough out of Knox last year to believe that he could be more than just a role player for NT in the future. There are a lot of people salivating about Morgan coming here, his record thus far in college is not significantly better than Knox and he was a five star can't miss player out of high school. Yes, I know there is a difference in playing in the PAC 10 and Belt, but you are now dealing with potential with both players.

  9. I said this over a year ago, but I think this team has a legit shot at winning the Belt. The main thing that this squad is gonna have to do and do early is learn how to win. We were in alot of games last year that we should've won but didn't. You never know what can happen if you get the ball rolling early and build some momentum.

  10. Dallas Football Classic? That's it? That's all those guy could come up with as a name for a bowl game? What...did they call and ask the Houston/Texas Bowl, Fort Worth Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, Hawaii Bowl, and New Mexico Bowl for advice on naming? Okay, I know...Fort Worth Bowl has changed it's name. But, damn...don't any of these guys have a creative bone in their bodies? 11. Allow me to play a little devil's advocate and get back to the original discussion... Would our enemies wait to catch us "in the act" before killing us? Do terrorists even care if they are killing soldiers or their own people for that matter. Our resolve to respect civilian life on foreign soil has been honorable but hasn't that hindered our ability to actually "fight" the good fight? Do Terrorists fight a dirty war? How do you win when the enemy has nothing but time to kill and has shown patience? I think of the early Americans and how we were able to turn around the momentum during the revolutionary war. Like our founders, these enemy combatants have great resolve. They also have a religious calling in many of their minds. The British were so damn frustrated that the militias wouldn't line up nicely in a row so that they could trade shot for shot... and eventually their inability to adapt to guerilla warfare was their downfall. Should we wait for the terrorists to be lined up cleanly in a row - ready to go shot for shot? Is that realistic? War is ugly and make no mistake - we are AT WAR. You can't win a war playing nice. Anyone watching the HBO series "The Pacific"? Were we living up to the "American Spirit" and winning over the hearts and minds of the Japanese people when we dropped the bombs that finally brought peace? Were those people tried in a court of law? Had they all declared war on the U.S. or were they simple casualties of war? Does the U.S. do a nice job of helping to rebuild countries after we fight the terrorists that occupied that land? We can demostrate the American spirit when the enemy is dead. One last set of questions - what would our enemy do? Would they try our soldiers or simply cut their heads off and post it on the internet? Would they take out our President at the very first chance? I believe so. It is terrible that we are at war - but we can't forget that this IS a war and a high level commander of the enemy (regardless of where he was born) should be treated as any other enemy. We don't send all enemies back to the U.S. for trial - we kill them. If the opportunity arises, we should kill him. I suggest that you all go back and watch the footage of that day (9/11) and remember the reason why we are at war. Now that we are actually fighting the right enemy (rather than creating and escalating new ones) - I am very supportive of a President that treats war as war. Terrible decisions have to be made during war - or else we will lose the war. Our entire financial system has been brought down by these wars. We have spent trillions trying to keep Americans safe. I like that he would send a message to other rogue leaders that we aren't a bunch of pansies and that we won't wait to catch them with the actual gun in hand. Just my $0.02

  12. Wow. Remind me again, how many scholarships did we lose for APR violations, 5 right? You know, students dropping out of school because we didn't change their grade? What a great message the NCAA sends. Become bigtime any way you can. Cheat, lie, steal, murder (oh wait, they punished Baylor, but then again, it's just Baylor), just become a bigtime football program and you will have no consequences about which to worry.

  13. ..because FC Dallas doesn't sell papers or get ratings. In fact, it does almost the opposite on the local sports media front. Look, I live in Frisco, I've been to games, I'm not a Hoops (the team, not the sport) hater, and I dig soccer at least a bit. But comparing the team formerly named after a gonorrhea symptom to the Mavs, Boys, Rangers, or Stars is silly. FCD has averaged less than 12k a game over their entire history, including a year when they averaged sub-8k in a 11k seat high school stadium. They've never averaged more than 15.4k a game for any season, and many of these fans are spanish speaking... I'm not sure what sort of coverage FCD gets in the local Spanish media, however. Fact is, I root for FCD and loosely follow them, but they're a professional sport in so much as the Dallas Vigilantes or Frisco Roughriders are, and get covered more than appropriately in this market.

  14. Really, Bush took everyone's 401K s and gave it all to Wall Street. Then again bankrupted the middle class with inflated gas prices while in essence bailing out oil companies. Then he helped Several other private firms by hiring $120,000 per year merceneries to go to war. Thus bringing our economy to a halt. So go f yourself when you look at this administration's handling of the worse economy since the great depression. Oh yea AIG, Goldman, Exxon Chevron, Halliburton.....all of these just topped the top 20 in Fortune 500.....Oh yea Chase, Bank of America, Deregulation led to their lending practices at 0% while sticking it to small business to the the tune of 17%--29% loans..... What this admin is doing is reeling in the heavy losses suffered by the Middle Class to support the Boujous on Wall Street and in Texas. All in the name of 9/11 my friend.... don't be a sheep for the republicans or the democrats....by the way how did you spend your $300 bush stimulus check???

  18. Agree, We definitely need baseball, women's gymnastics, and then men's and women's hockey. I still think we could field a national championship caliber team almost immediately. This area is a gold mine waiting to be mined. Baby steps...

  19. No kidding. Just imagine what will happen if we eliminate turnovers, focus on scoring in the red zone, play to win, take it one game at a time, manage the clock correctly and win the special teams battle. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say good things will happen if we take care of those things.

  20. Yes, Ryan Leaf had he played for UT last season would have won that game. Brady, as he was in college, wouldn't have. Next question...

  21. I like, no really like, picking up Dez in the first round for the cowboys. Now, after saying that I don't get the selection of the LB from Penn state. Didn't Jerry learn about white linebackers from the Big Ten(Carpenter anyone)? Also, people expect us to believe a QB who couldn't go in the first two rounds would have been the decisive player in the national title game????
