I am not really interested in an expanded Sun Belt. I'm interested in getting out and moving to a C-USA that is more Texas-oriented.

Please don't badmouth the Sack n Save. That was a very reliable and convenient source of tortillas when we could bring them into the game. I'll bet their tortilla sales dropped 50% on game days after the ban went into effect.

Four FCS moveups are predicted within the SBC's footprint, or half the country! Could we/ would we ever expand the SBC and split into two divisions of 7 teams? .................... As part of the ongoing NCAA Leadership Council recommendations, schools in FCS conferences that seek to upgrade to FBS will need to have been invited by an FBS conference. This is similar to the recommendations that Division 2 upgrades need to be invited to join a Division I conference before upgrading. If put in place, the new rule would eliminate the ability for a school to upgrade to FBS football as an independent. Schools rumored to upgrade in the near future include UTSA, Texas St, Charlotte and Georgia St. These schools considering FBS upgrades all have the luxury of being in the current Sunbelt footprint, which will soon be 10 football teams once South Alabama joins for football. The WAC is an option as well. I don't think any conference should be bigger than 12. I would much rather have a 12 team Sun Belt than a 14 team Sun Belt. That way the scheduling does not get quirky.

First of all, Scott Hall? How about Andrew Smith? And ask Vizza if he lacked any confidence when he first stepped onto the field in Norman. I think a more objective question might be, did the players not look up to Jamario going into his soph year? I do not mean to discredit whatever experiences you have, but only wish that people would stop assuming whatever they lived and went through automatically applies to any similar situation. I like to think that both QBs have made the most of their opportunities. Tune has the edge in age, but after that I just don't totally agree that the gap is that wide. Based on what I saw last season (and hoping their is carryover into this year), it would not surprise me at all if DT took the job in 2010. Best wishes to both of them and the staff. 2010. Agree, We definitely need baseball, women's gymnastics, and then men's and women's hockey. I still think we could field a national championship caliber team almost immediately. This area is a gold mine waiting to be mined. Baby steps...

SMU has also shown they will throw out money to buy marquee players too, which is why I can't see the other Texas schools wanting them anywhere near the Big 12.

By defination, a quitter is a player that leaves our program. A good player looking for more playing time by coming to North Texas after playing somewhere else is a transfer.

This topic is mind-boggling and will totally change the landscape of Division 1A football. I'm using the term Division 1A because I don't and haven't liked the term FBS. That's one of those buzz words to avoid the inevitability of a playoff system. So I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts about how the makeup of each conference, one conference at a time. Let's start with the Big 10, who is expected to tip the first domino. Probable losses: None Possible Additions: Notre Dame - The Irish may be forced into the Big 10 this go-around. First, the TV package would raise their revenue $10 million per year. Second, I expect the demise of the Big East as a football conference when the Big 10 expands; meaning they would have no choice in a nearby conference for football. Of course, they are in the Big East for all other sports. Lastly, if they refuse to join the Big 10 could make it extremely difficult to schedule games with their conference. It may be simply too costly for Notre Dame not to join. Pittsburgh - Good attendance and gives a natural opponent for Penn State. Cements the vast majority of the Pennsylvania TV market. Storied past with Dorsett and Ditka. Perennial Top 40 team. Rutgers - Would give the Big 10 more a more Easterly presence and the largest share of the New York market, thereby enhancing the value of the TV contract. Those are the three that I believe the Big 10 would take if they stop at 14. There really isn't a great need for further expansion but you can never tell about Delaney. The Big East is pretty well destroyed in football at this juncture and that makes another thread for discussion. If the Big 10 should go to 16 teams the most logical choices at that point would be Missouri and Syracuse. Missouri would add good sized markets in St. Louis and Kansas City and very good attendance. Football is sound and basketball is improving. Frankly, I don't understand the fascination with Syracuse. If it were my choice, I would take Connecticut. Good market and some of the best basketball (men's and women's) played anywhere. They would also have some impact on the New York City market as well as the lion's share of Connecticut. They usually fill a 40K stadium and being a member of the Big 10 should add another 10,000 if they will expand their stadium. Nebraska and Texas could get consideration but I don't think either would be interested unless there was some superconference formed and that would require tossing Indiana, Northwestern, etc. and I don't believe that the Big 10 is willing to do that.

Allow me to play a little devil's advocate and get back to the original discussion... Would our enemies wait to catch us "in the act" before killing us? Do terrorists even care if they are killing soldiers or their own people for that matter. Our resolve to respect civilian life on foreign soil has been honorable but hasn't that hindered our ability to actually "fight" the good fight? Do Terrorists fight a dirty war? How do you win when the enemy has nothing but time to kill and has shown patience? I think of the early Americans and how we were able to turn around the momentum during the revolutionary war. Like our founders, these enemy combatants have great resolve. They also have a religious calling in many of their minds. The British were so damn frustrated that the militias wouldn't line up nicely in a row so that they could trade shot for shot... and eventually their inability to adapt to guerilla warfare was their downfall. Should we wait for the terrorists to be lined up cleanly in a row - ready to go shot for shot? Is that realistic? War is ugly and make no mistake - we are AT WAR. You can't win a war playing nice. Anyone watching the HBO series "The Pacific"? Were we living up to the "American Spirit" and winning over the hearts and minds of the Japanese people when we dropped the bombs that finally brought peace? Were those people tried in a court of law? Had they all declared war on the U.S. or were they simple casualties of war? Does the U.S. do a nice job of helping to rebuild countries after we fight the terrorists that occupied that land? We can demostrate the American spirit when the enemy is dead. One last set of questions - what would our enemy do? Would they try our soldiers or simply cut their heads off and post it on the internet? Would they take out our President at the very first chance? I believe so. It is terrible that we are at war - but we can't forget that this IS a war and a high level commander of the enemy (regardless of where he was born) should be treated as any other enemy. We don't send all enemies back to the U.S. for trial - we kill them. If the opportunity arises, we should kill him. I suggest that you all go back and watch the footage of that day (9/11) and remember the reason why we are at war. Now that we are actually fighting the right enemy (rather than creating and escalating new ones) - I am very supportive of a President that treats war as war. Terrible decisions have to be made during war - or else we will lose the war. Our entire financial system has been brought down by these wars. We have spent trillions trying to keep Americans safe. I like that he would send a message to other rogue leaders that we aren't a bunch of pansies and that we won't wait to catch them with the actual gun in hand. Just my $0.02

As long as we are talking about adding a baseball (100,000% for this, I would try to walk on) die to Title XI we would need to add a girl's sport. I think a gymnastics team would be a wonderful addition to UNT Athletics. Do you know how many Division I girls gymnastics teams there are in Texas? Zero. In fact the only school with any gymnastics program is DII TWU (who has won national championships). If you think about the great Olympic gymnasts in the past Summer Games most are from WOGA in Plano. Gold medalists Nastia Liukin and Carly Patterson were both from the North Texas area and tons of North Texas gymnasts go all across the country for the chance to compete in college (my sister hi tailed it to Alaska). If we the athletic department is looking to add a new sport that has the potential to do well on a national scale I think the conversation should begin and end with women's gymnastics. I know this comment should probably be in a different thread, but this way it may actually get read. And... ummmm.... gymnastics chicks are hot and we need more hot chicks! /man card saved

UTEP is better than us in football & basketball. They are part of the UT system, $. Their stadium is already better than what ours will be AND hosts a bowl game that's been around for a while. I'm sure UTEP commands more viewers in their media market than we do with ours. In what way is UNT more attractive than UTEP? Emerging basketball power? Let's take it one step at a time and continue our 20 win seasons. We're on the way up, but don't lose sight that we've yet to have a quality OOC W under JJ. If CU moves, it's only to the Pac10.

I'd take them both in a New York minute if they're motivated to work enough to get on the field somehwere else and not just use a scholarship to get a free ride. "Quitters" is a term way overused by the majority of the Mean Green fanbase and needs to go by the way-side. Why did they choose not to return to Texas? The article states playing time, but the reasons could go a lot deeper than that. Texas is one of about 5 or 6 schools in the country (Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Florida, Alabama, Ohio State) where the depth and recruiting is so far above other programs, and good "3 star/4 star" high school athletes could never get a chance for a number of reasons. Programs like North Texas can benefit tremendously from athletes like these two in particular. These "bounce back" players tend to bode well for almost every other program in the country, including some of the big programs I listed above (see Colin Peek the TE from Alabama this past year, was a 'bounce back' from Georgia Tech) and these players are everywhere. We certainly have welcomed Tyler Stradford and William Cole with open arms (though Cole was on his last rope academically) and why not welcome as many as possible? Unless there's unspoken off the field baggage that the AD would find out ahead of time, take a chance. What do you have to lose? These guys are probably bigger, faster, and stronger than anyone on the North Texas team at their respective positions. As someone mentioned, Troy does quite well with them, and why can't we?

Just enjoying the +/- thing and seeing it for what it is. Sorry that what I do or don't do seems to bother you so much. I have advocated against the +/- thing as I felt it would become just what it has, but I do get some "jollies" out of messing around with it. You have your "joys" on the board, I have mine. Folks do some "interesting" things when they think they are anonymous. That's why I let any and all know who I really am and enjoy meeting other GMG.com posters in "real life". Some just seem to avoid that possibility so they can continue to post in anonymity, no problem at all. To each his/her own.
