The last three football seasons - one high school and two college - have ended due to injury for Riley. Therefore, I don't see the point in redshirting Thompson. It almost inevitable that he'll be needed. In fact, I'd advocate starting him if he's got the strongest arm of the three and can grasp everything Canales wants to do. In all honesty, both Tune and Thompson have better arms than Riley. Either will be fine. But...dadgum...isn't it exciting to see a kid 6'4" and 230 taking snaps? I mean, people talk about Riley being able to run around; but, what about having a QB as big as a linebacker being able to stand in the pocket, take a hit, and deliver the ball? That's every bit as valuable as "running around" with the ball. In fact, I'd say being able to stay in the pocket, take a hit, and deliver is more valuable because the timing of the play isn't messed up. If a QB pulls the ball down, receivers have got to readjust their routes and either (1) looks for an open space, or (2) come back to the ball. Everything's helter skelter at that point...and it led to too many turnovers last year. I like the thought of a bigger kid being able to hang in there and allow the receivers to complete their routes. I love Nathan Tune, but...dadgummit I'm pullng for this kid Thompson!5 points

Expecting: 8 Hoping for: 9 or 10 The only one I think we really don't have a shot at is Clemson. First one, out of the barrell, at a fairly raucous football stadium against an old school "defense first" school who grinds out a run game on offense...probably not going to be pretty. However, I don't think Clemson gets 40+ on us. I'm thinking 30-someting to maybe 10. And, to me, even that would set the tone for an 8-10 win season. I really do think that if we've won the Sun Belt title we've got a good chance of picking off Kansas State in the Last Game EVAR @ Fouts! K-State will have already gotten a good beating in the Big 12. When KSU limps into Fouts in will be their third consecutive road game, and fifth in seven games. Their November opens with Texas and on the road at Missouri. They then have a date with equally questionable Colorado in Boulder before they tiptoe into Denton. Their schedule sets up horribly for them and they may be - excuse the pun - "clawing" for a sixth win and bowl bid by the end of November. If there was ever a time for us to knock off a "name" team, that would be it. Opportunity will be knocking all year long, fellas. We've finally got the coaches in place to answer the door.2 points

Frankly, until I see otherwise, Riley's endurance is still suspect and the "back-up" could easily become a starter.2 points

I would like to see Thompson get the redshirt season back this year. Tune is more than capable as a backup and Baine can be coached up for the year. If we get another year of eligibility back for Thompson, then we will have a QB for a year after Riley graduates, assuming that he starts the next 3 seasons.2 points

It's times like these that I'm glad our president is a peace-loving Kenyan Muslim. Can you imagine what our country would be like if we'd elected a midwestern Christian instead? :shudder:2 points

Uh, sorry to be the spelling police, but there's 2 T's in butter, and a 'C' in duck... and yes, my money is also on butter over duck in the final.2 points

I expect to win 2 games. I hope to win 12. My prediction: somewhere between 0 and 12 wins.2 points

Geeze, it's pre-season and we're undefeated. Hope and dreams should be the norm rather than the exception. We're gonna go 12-0 during the season, win a BCS bowl and be the toast of the football world !1 point

i thought he was just helping out that little girl. the ref was all over her pointing out spots that she missed, so he helped out. i didn't interpret it as some disrespect toward our guys. that said, i love seeing the wildcats lose because of the kstate fans sitting around me in the NORTH TEXAS section. i still can hear them whining about every foul call.1 point

I hope Tobe is drafted in one of the rounds. Not just an unrestricted free agent. (Although I would hope he at least gets a chance even as a UFA.)1 point

I thought the blog guys implied it would be for this upcoming season? I heard earlier this year staffers were looking at some made up helmet options over in the AC. I would be in favor of dropping the North Texas name on the helmet and putting a logo on it instead, like a big program does!1 point

Dodge took over a stable and successful program at SLC. He did not build it. He has done a fantastic job of ensuring it's ongoing success.1 point

Please read further down my original post beyond the first two lines. Harbaugh is mentioned as a top 3. LongJim, This was a good read into the situation TD stepped into. http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30980 Nothing is stable in HS football. You lose 90 percent or more of your team every two years. How many state championships has Permian won since since Garry Gains left? How many state championships has the state HANDED over to Plano since Tom Kimbrough stepped down? How many state chammpionships has Daingerfield won since Dennis Alexander moved on to Henderson? Any more domination and state titles from 4A powerhouse Brownwood since the late Gordon Woond retired? How many state titles did Carrol win under Tom Rapp's leadership after taking over for one of the most successful coaches in 3A? Zero. Just because so and so won somewhere means nothing in High School. The turnover is simply too high for it to simply be "Austomatic" as some seem to think it is for SLC. TD has built his system himself, maintained it through one full classification move and dominated along the way with a complete different style than Rapp or Ledbetter used before him. Rick-1 points
