  2. Antwone Matlock, thanks for toiling away in practice so we could be conference champions. I always enjoyed when you got playing time! Eric Tramiel....you were such a warrior for us. I will miss you donning the green and white. You were arguably our best player the last two years, and one of the best leaders I've ever seen.

  9. ESPN NCAA FB Blog As we told you last week, coach David Bailiff can't be feeling too secure about his job with a new, trigger-happy athletic director in place. But Bailiff may finally have the pieces -- at least on offense -- to get the Owls over .500. Rice's top two rushers -- sophomore Charles Ross and junior Tyler Smith -- return. Add to them heralded Michigan transfer Sam McGuffie, a sophomore who ripped off two TD runs in Tuesday's intrasquad scrimmage, including a 50-yarder, and redshirt freshman Turner Petersen, whose physical style belies a guy who came to Rice as a WR, and the Owls suddenly have the depth to run the ball all day. Moreover, at QB, junior returning starter Nick Fanuzzi is expected to have his hands full fighting off challenges from the two Taylors (and we don't mean Lautner and Swift): sophomore Miami transfer Taylor Cook, a Ryan Mallett clone at 6-foot-7, and redshirt freshman Taylor McHargue, who is considered the best athlete among the three. The college football world is littered with transfers who never lived up to their hype, but if Rice's pair can deliver, the Owls could make a move in Conference USA.

  11. Agreed X100 If we're able to come up with anything to almost resemble Tramster(I'm looking at you Knoxxy) we're as good or better next year. To Tramster, I love you almost as much as Woody. Adios Broseph.

  16. Look, it is a compliment to our program that JJ is being mentioned for bigger jobs. This is exatly what we need. It's publicity, people, which is a VERY good thing. Johnny is going nowhere without a win or a very close game tomorrow. Mark it. Now, next year, that may change. Any publicity is good pubicity. What people will take away from this is that UNT has the best Basketball program in the metroplex. Chill out, Folks.

  17. I don't know what to say really. Three minutes to the biggest battle of our professional lives all comes down to today. Either we heal as a team or we are going to crumble. dribble by dribble Jumper by Jumper till we're finished. We are in hell right now, gentlemen believe me and we can stay here and get the shit kicked out of us or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb out of hell. One half-court desperation attempt, at a time. Now I can't do it for you. I'm too old. I look around and I see these young faces and I think I mean I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make. I uh.... I pissed away all my money believe it or not. I chased off anyone who has ever loved me. And lately, I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror. You know when you get old in life things get taken from you. That's, that's part of life. But, you only learn that when you start losing stuff. You find out that life is just a game of backboard shattering slam dunks. So is basketball Because in either game life or basketball the margin for error is so small. I mean one half step too late or to early you don't quite make it. One half second too slow or too fast and you don't quite swat it in into the stands. The bounce passes we need are everywhere around us. They are in ever break of the game every minute, every second. On this team, we fight for that bucket On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us to pieces for that Monster Jam. We CLAW with our finger nails for that sweet no-look pass. Cause we know when we add up all those 3 pointers that's going to make the f-ing difference between WINNING and LOSING between LIVING and DYING. I'll tell you this in any fight it is the guy who is willing to die who is going to win that opening tip. And I know if I am going to have any life anymore it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that crunk alley-oop because that is what LIVING is. The six inches in front of your face. Now I can't make you do it. You gotta look at the guy next to you. Look into his eyes. Now I think you are going to see a guy who will shoot free throws with you. You are going to see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team because he knows when it comes down to it, you are gonna do the same thing for him. That's a team, gentlemen and either we heal now, as a team, or we will die as individuals. That's basketball guys. That's all it is. Now, whattaya gonna do?

  23. I was there and I estimated the crowd at 70-80. Since it's Spring Break, the band, cheerleaders and Dancers weren't there. But all in all, it was a nice turnout. I think Coach JJ and the players were touched by it. And FYI....there will be a Game Day Send Off from the team hotel at 12 on Thursday. That one will be rockin'.

  29. ...at the same time, it would have been just as exciting, if not even more for you and others here who also watched that era of NT basketball, "IF" 7 of the 8 season's Blakeley coached here we were playing in the 21'st ranked basketball conference and not as an independent, and at the same time there were more than 32 teams qualifying for the the NCAA tournament and more than 16 teams qualifying for the NIT tournament, for a grand total of 46 teams qualifying to play in the post season? That would have been something for sure. With that, God bless Coach Blakeley, who I hear is in poor health and currently struggling with cancer. It's always nice that so many here remembers and/or respects our past and those who made it happen and those who actually watched it in person which I'm certain he appreciates? Rick

  31. I understand this one guy's story doesn't sweep it clean, but his story makes you wonder if the others are indeed legit? Here's an interesting report concerning something that I have seen personally 4 times while on duty. Toyota Sudden Acceleration: Is It All Older Drivers' Fault? Whenever my kids and I exit a grocery store/convenience store in which customers pull directly into a space towards the store, I will have each one by the arm and will not allow them to walk in front of someone pulling in until that someone turns their vehicle off, especially if the driver is a senior individual. Why? Because I have seen it 4 times in which little ol grandma/grandpa hit the accelerator instead of the brake and ran their car right up into the store. The first one I remember was at The Exxon Station on Camp Bowie and Bryant Irvin Road in '97 and I'll never forget how amazing it was to see it? And every guy I work with has a story in which they've seen it also. It's just one of those things that happens and seems to happen quite a bit apparently? So my experiences and others plus the hoax leads me skeptical that the Toyota scare is AS BIG as congress and the media is making it out to be? I'm not dismissing the accidental deaths that may be legit. They are horrible. But we see and know human nature and behavior behind the wheel of autos, so..? Rick

  33. Forbes.com:Toyota Hybrid Horror Hoax Just like this guy's story above, I suspect this whole Toyota mess is a bunch of crap! It's strange, being a Ford guy and all, defending Toyota. But I just don't buy the stories that there's this massive problem with their cars. Their QC history has just been too good over the years. Rick

  38. .....at least that's what it seems the message is here in this article. DENTON -- Johnny Jones should be gone. He deserves it. What he has done in his tenure as men's basketball coach at North Texas has been largely ignored, but it's deserving of an opportunity to coach in a higher profile conference. Read more: http://www.star-telegram.com/2010/03/16/2045432/johnny-jones-has-turned-north.html#ixzz0iURTvK47 Jesus H!!! First that asshole on channel 8 asking JJ when is he going to leave for a bigger program, now this? It mentions in the article one of the factors why we have won 20 games a year for 4 years in a row: Our schedule. Then seems to hint he's too good for us? Maybe I'm reading this wrong but is North Texas not allowed to have a good basketball program, and when we do we shouldn't expect it? F------- Amazing!!!! Rick
