In a nutshell, yes. We're at the bottom of the food chain conference-wise. No one really gets top recruits. Not even Troy. It's what you do with what you get. Whether anyone admits it or not, Darrell Dickey took some unknowns, unheralded players and he and his coaching staff turned them into a machine - in the Sun Belt. I'd match this coaching staff with any other Belt team. In fact, I wouldn't trade it straight up for any of the others. Every hire since Ron Mendoza and Robert Drake left have been 164% on target with what we need - Deloach, Gahagan, Nelson, Canales, and Peterson. Deloach: Has done it here, and produced NFL safeties at UCLA Gahagan: Experience at Southern Cal Nelson: Over a decade of the best Iowa State football in its history Canales: Part of taking South Florida from start up to giant killer Peterson: A decade during the remarkable Kansas State turnaround I mean...these are all guys with dozens and dozens of All-League, All-American, and NFL draft picks and signees under their belts. How can anyone not be excited about what is happening now? Look at it this way: except for Gahagan, all have been a part of "turn around" stories or "doing it from scratch" stories - North Texas, South Florida, Kansas State and Iowa State. These coaches have all seen programs that needed building up and played major roles in helping them do so. And, with the exception of Deloach, all did so in BCS conferences (Big East, Big 12, and Pac-10). Sorry, guys, but I'm legitimately excited about what's going on with football these days. And, you should be, too.7 points

The key is to have more points than the other guys at the end of each game. I don't care how we get there.4 points

Not quite the same Old Timer. Olekaibe is a Class of 2010 grad....meaning we've offered him a spot on the team next year. The other two guys, great prospects btw....are Class of 2011 grads. So the earliest they can sign with us....is early signing period in November 2010. Olekaibe, on the other hand, can sign with us in April, 2010....and be on campus in late August. And the other poster is right.....we now have 2 scholarships to give, since Richard Thomas left. One of those is committed to Edwards, so we do have one more to give for the 2010-2011 team.3 points

I'd add MUTS and Troy to the "not winnable" list. They were just too far ahead of us last season to reasonably think we've made up that ground in this short period of time. So that's at least 4 losses that I see. On the other hand, I think this team with experience and the coaching upgrades will be able to turn those 4-7 point losses from last season into 4-7 point wins. Sooooooooo...I don't see 7 wins as impossible at all.3 points

I have read your liberal dribble for the past few years on here, I have yet to see a political remark from you that didn't ooze with liberal sediment. If you think you are remotely conservative you are delusional, and I must know you better then you know yourself. BTW - I have served as an election Judge twice -- woo, even had the little course twice. Though today I had to work a real job for only 12 hours, that means I didn't stand around with a clipboard all day acting important. So please don't piss down my back and tell me it is raining.2 points

1965 = 3-7, 1966 = 8-2 (Odus Mitchell) 1972 = 1-10, 1973 = 5-5-1 (Hayden Fry) 1974 = 2-7-2, 1975 = 7-4 (Hayden Fry) 1982 = 2-9, 1983 = 8-4 (Corky Nelson) 1993 = 4-7, 1994 = 7-4-1 (Matt Simon) 2001 = 5-7, 2002 = 8-5 (Darrell Dickey) So, can North Texas go from 2-10 to at least 7-5 in 2010? Yes, yes we can. .2 points

I am not convinced that Medina won't sneak in against Perry. (she has a lot of rabid supporters that thinks she will cut taxes** despite the fact we are already now 49th in state taxes now, Mississippi is lower per capita) 10 years is enough of Perry in my opinion, but I expect him survive. He will easily defeat Medina in a run-off but KBH would give him a rougher time... if she can even made the run-off. Bill White wins an easy victory on the other side.. against a long list of no-name candidates and Shami. . (my opinions) **can't imagine how since we are about leanest running state anyway. [close state parks, not fix highways, close or barely fund colleges not in UT/A&M system ( they don't share in university land fund) ] ??? Do they really understand the situation?1 point

I think the biggest factor in us winning it all is Eric staying out of foul trouble. We werent the same team without him and I want to say we are 12-2 when he came back. With those 2 losses being to ASU and MTSU. The ASU game he didnt start and didnt play a ton of minutes and the MTSU game he was in foul trouble and didnt hardly play and we still had a chance to win it with a minute left. We are just a completely different team with him in there. So please please Eric stay out of foul trouble.1 point

He showed up out of shape and not ready to play. Running the court was an issue for him. Why is this of no significance to anybody?1 point

I was told that Jenkins left in December, not sure if it effected the number of kids that we signed in February (or mid term transfers) but hopefully the scholarship goes to good use.1 point

I sure wish KBH stood a chance against Perry. I would much rather have her in there. I will be voting for Bill White which in this state means I might as well write in Snow White. No Democrat stands a chance. I will say as a Houstonian (ok fine South Side Place) I think Bill White did an incredible job and would make a terriffic Governor.1 point

I have to admit I am one of those... Although I did attend UNT in the 80's (when we were still 1AA) I graduated from UTEP and have been a Miner diehard my entire life win (not that often) or lose (quite often)... When my wife and I moved to McKinney I was looking for a college team to support and since I had been a student at UNT it seemed natural... I only get to watch UTEP play in person in DFW once every other year in football and once every year in basketball, so that hardly meets my need for a sports fix... I have attended about 10 UNT games in the 11 years I have lived here, but with my 9 year old becoming a football maniac this next year I am going to break down and buy season tickets for the both of us and then again for the season to open the new stadium... I am exactly the kind of person that needs to be chased by the university marketing team... I don't have a large vested interest in the fortunes of UNT sports, but I have greatly enjoyed the games I've been to, have bought gear for my son and I and have been really made to feel part of something by the fans we have met tailgating, etc... That being said, any idea when football season tickets go on sale...??1 point

i do know i invited 25 people...who all showed....who had never been to a UNT basketball game....every single one told me after the game they will be back for some games next season after tonight! so that's a plus!1 point

I remember reading an article that his mom had major health issues and he almost left the program earlier because of that. I'm sure this is related somehow. Good Luck to you, Big Nate. Thanks for your time at NT.0 points

--Now I am considered a liberal because I opposed the last administration doubling the national debt. That seems like a conservative item to me. There is a sign in my yard supporting a GOP local judge and a supreme court (GOP) candidate was in my den when the Cowboys lost to Minnesota. You have no clue... I served as an election judge today for 14+ hours... What did you do besides post messages. . True -- I don't care for Perry... He is killing education and increasing tuition and causing local taxes to be raised like crazy by cutting state funding.... despite his claims. You have no clue about anything about me.0 points

Intellence or arrogance? I report, you decide. And I refuse to use the word democratic to describe the Democrat party. No way in hell the Republicans nominate "Big hair" Perry for President. He is George W. Bush Ultra Light in national conservative circles. Although if Pres. Obama continues on the current course, George W. Bush Ultra Light may be what the country will be desiring.0 points

I honestly think we will turn the corner this year and this schedule helps. I think some of those close losses will turn into wins b/c of experience. I could see 6-8 wins this year.0 points

............. Great job to FFJ for finding the information. I spoke to THE source today. As it turns out, the AD's and commissioner sat down prior to the season and decided that due to the odd amount of teams playing each other, and the fact thatsomeone was going to play more teams than others, that they would go with the overall best record in head to head play. My oppinion is I don't believe they thought it would play out as it did because the conference forgot to tell the rest of the outside world about this decision or update it on their website. Our AD dept was on the phone with the conference all this morning getting it straighteend out. I assure you no one is happy about the outcome and I was assured today that that message was sent loud and clear to the conference that for the next season(even though we don't have to worry about playing another set of odd opponents in conferenc) they will get it corrected and in writing so there won't be any confusion in the future. I am not sure why you care, last I checked you were spouting some crazy liberal agenda, not like you would vote for any of above republicans anyway. Low taxes is not the same as low revenues, low taxes attract business and growth. Plus high taxes do not guarantee more money for parks and schools. New York has some of the highest taxes in the land, and they are deep in debt. They haven't had money to fund their parks department for years, they used to have great parks in the state. Their Appalachian trail used to be incredible to hike. But the last ten plus years the parks have lost all funding in favor of extreme social programs that bleed them dry. So these once wonderful trails are now over grown and the foot bridges, steps, and other improvements these trails once had are falling apart. Maybe you would be better off living in New York, maybe California where you can feel better and pay much higher taxes.0 points

I mean, not to sound overly optimistic, but outside of Clemson and K-State, the rest of these games should be deemed "winnable". We've also never had a better chance to beat a Big 12 conference member (not named Baylor) better than this coming season. We get them at the end of the year (maybe) in a "home" game... that could be a great benefit.-1 points

Does this not concern anyone: Greg Peterson enters his second season at Colorado State, his 26th year in the profession. He joined the Rams on Jan. 14, 2008. Peterson not only served as the Rams' offensive coordinator, but also coached the wide receivers... So he has gone from the Mountain West Offensive coordinator to a struggling SunBelt WR coach?!-3 points

I like the schedule. Easy October, tough November. 4 straight weeks at home. If Dodge can't get it done with this schedule (which he won't) then he shouldn't be the coach.-8 points
