  1. Just goes to show how little people around here give a bleep about our history.

  2. Great article with a very compelling premise. We can't seem to agree with each other politically so we don't believe the "facts" that the other side proposes. I liked his followup to a particularly poignant paragraph... He is right in his assertion that we are breaking down what should be logical discussions into partisan politics void of critical thought. However he is showing his own partisanship in his choice of examples. By comparing Global Warming to the 'Birthers' he contradicts his own point, as if to say, "see, look at all the facts associated with the global warming thing and no one can come up with anything to counter them. See, we global warming proponents were right all along and anyone reading this who disagrees with us is holding up progress!!!!!!" As we have seen here on this very board many times there are facts both for and against the occurrence of global warming and this individuals choice of examples in his otherwise, IMO, coherent piece, illustrates his contempt for those who wish to indulge in an open debate of the subject thanks to the volumes of "facts" out there that counter his view. The article is god in concept but the delivery, IMO, is just as partisan as the negative subject that he writes about.

  4. Clearly he doesn't care about the FACT that the IPCC has admitted the Himalayan glacier claim was bogus and they knew it, that they kept it in the report for political reasons. Or that they intentionally omitted the dissenting opinions of scientists on the IPCC. Hmm, kind of like their admission that the WHO overstated the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s in order to get nations to act. Can we believe ANYTHING the U.N. or their team of scientists tell us anymore?

  7. Um , it's the off season. What else can we talk that is not speculation ? I guess my question is , would a K State win be enough to keep TD here as we head into the new stadium ? And I would so choose the 2'11 girl , as long as she is "of age". I like girls with small hands...

  8. Back in my day we didn't have a mid-major top 25, in fact nobody ever heard the term mid -major, we didn't even have a top twenty five we had a top twenty and we liked it, we played real basketball against really good teams and if someone was bleeding we didn't stop the game like we do today for the wimpy panty waists, we didn't have a fancy three point shot and some players still averaged 30+ points a game, we wore real shorts and not these baggy draws that hang below the knees like they do today, and only the top 32 teams went to the NCAA tournament, it wasn't like today where everybody gets a trophy and they whine and want more teams in...etc.

  9. This Thursday Johnny Jones' boys play ULL for what will be win #20. That's four straight years of twenty wins. The team is currently tied for the west division #1 spot and a win Thursday and then against ULM to end the season could give us the regular season title, assuring a NIT bid, and the #1 seed heading into the SBC tourney. Oh yeah, and it's the last time this group of seniors will play at the pit. In short they have EARNED your attendance. So brave the traffic people. Feel free to move this as technically it's not football related. Then again if Todd Dodge were on the verge of a fourth straight winning season we'd tailgate all day for this game and take the day off work. And SBC basketball isn't even rated as the worst conference in America.

  13. Not to undermine the comic vibe going now, but here's a bit of serious info that bodes well for our chances on Thursday: Gradnigo expected to be out vs. North Texas. For anyone who doesn't follow the rest of the conference very closely, Chris Gradnigo is sort of like the Odufuwa/Quincy Williams to Tyren Johnson's Tramiel/Keith Wooden. Johnson carries the statistical weight and scores more points, but Gradnigo is arguably the one that makes the whole system work. Gradnigo averages 14 points, and his absence will put even more pressure on Johnson to produce and avoid foul trouble (and the guy has already been basically carrying that team on his back all year). It will also stress the Cajun bench, as they'd be stuck with only 9 available players. I believe they're under scholarship sanctions from the NCAA, and they already lost point guard Ryan McCoy (a onetime North Texas recruit who couldn't make the grades) to academic ineligibility back in January. Gradnigo hasn't practiced at all since severely bruising his back on Saturday. The writer of the article starts by saying that it will take an "overnight recovery of miraculous proportions" for Gradnigo to suit up against North Texas. Final status will be determined today. Lafayette is 1-6 on the road against SBC teams this year, and 3-10 overall. They haven't won at the Super Pit in 5 years. They're probably going to have to play without their 2nd best player, or at best, with their 2nd best player in severe pain and seriously limited. It's unfortunate that part of it relates to a guy getting hurt... But things seem to be shaping up nicely for us tomorrow night.

  14. Apparently none of you can read. He never once mentiones "Man Made Global Warming". he just states the FACT that the temperature is higher right now than it was at another time in history. I personaly dont think humans have any effect on the temperature of the earth, but the author has not expressed any opinions on that subject. You are all proving his point

  20. What is LJ's agenda? Where do his loyalties lie? UNT or the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Dallas, the Southern Sector Development Initiative, the Dallas Citizens Council and the Dallas Education Foundation? I'd say most of his decisions regarding UNT are directly tied to his place on the Dallas Chamber's Board of Directors and, arguably, benefit them far more than they benefit UNT.

  22. Rick, you're probably the most recognizable supporter of UNT athletics period. The respect for you is there my friend. You've been on the block much longer than I have (BA '05), so you know the history first hand. To me it's history, and I really appreciate history. For me, Patrick Cobbs is the best RB I've seen here at UNT. Brandon Kennedy is the best D-Lineman I have seen at UNT. My appreciation of history tells me that maybe Abner Haynes is the best RB ever, and Joe Greene is the best D-Lineman ever. That doesn't diminish my thoughts of Cobbs & Booger. It's not a lack of respect by any means... I just didn't see those guys. I'm sure other 'youngbloods' are the same as me. We love the guys that we saw play!

  23. Count me in for that road trip...Ha! Emmitt has to go too. Flanny LOVED him some Emmitt. We could hold up big blank white posters with nothing on them. When their fans asks us what that means?, we tell them. "We dont draw, and by this time next year, you'll wish Flannigan didnt either..." GMG!!!

  28. Can we please wait till that situation is a reasonable possibility before we worry about that please. The choice you gave is like being asked if you would rather date a girl 8 feet tall or one 2 foot 11 - there is no good choice.

  29. hahahahahahahaha.... Leonard Pitts? hahahahahahahaha... So what he is saying is he wants you to believe what he believes are facts, not what necessarily are real facts. And round and round we go. I would put a lot more faith in an article like this if it were written by John Stosell.

  30. Yep, I got a complimentary copy back in January. It hit the shelves about two weeks before national signing day. This is just the second year of publication for the DCTF winter edition and I'm not sure how much longer it will last. They had two versions ready to go this year - the one that printed and an alternate version that would have been a special commemorative issue, devoted primarily to Texas Longhorn coverage, had UT been victorious in the national championship game. It's a fraction of the size of the fall issue and the information is already dated as soon as it's printed. For example, it shows Javia Hall committed to North Texas - we all know how that turned out. I think it would make more sense for them to hold off until after signing day, but I guess they prefer to wait until the fall issue to provide more in-depth analysis of each school's signing class. Aside from the above comments, I guess it provides a decent enough recap of the season. Personally, and this is not a knock on Vito (he authors most of the DCTF coverage on UNT), I'd love to see a different perspective on UNT football every now and then. For that reason, I found the ESPN article by Graham Watson interesting.

  32. Here are just a few quick names I have. Before anyone comments that any of these guys are out of our league, remember Canales appeared that way too. Mike Schultz – currently unemployed - former OC at Illinois (2009) and TCU He recently interviewed at Louisiana Tech for the WR Coach position. Also coached at Sam Houston State, SW Texas State, New Mexico, UTEP and Kansas State. Clarence James – currently on Tulsa staff as Outside WR Coach and Director of Recruiting – has strong ties to the DFW area, having coached at Allen HS, SMU and UNT in the past. He's also coached at Kansas, Texas Tech, OU and Texas. Gerad Parker – currently on UT-Martin's staff as Recruiting Coordinator, Passing Game Coordinator and WR Coach – was a finalist for Kentucky's WR Coach position that Tee Martin got. No ties to the DFW metroplex that I could find but is a young, talented coach on the rise IMO. Shannon Dawson - currently on Stephen F. Austin's staff as OC and QB coach. I'll add a few more later.

  33. It looks like Mike Schultz is in the running for MTSU's open OC job. There's a bit of irony in that Schultz previously interviewed for the La Tech WR coach position under Tony Franklin, MTSU's former OC. According to footballscoop: Middle Tennessee State: Rivals' Tom Dienhart reports Rick Stockstill talked with former TCU and Illinois offensive coordinator Mike Schultz.

  36. I am just curious, what was the thinking of building it so big. It holds what, almost 11K, right ? I know there used to be big crowds in the Snake Pit, so did they think there would be big crowds at the Super Pit as well or did they plan on making it an events type center where it could be used for a lot different things ? I want to say and i would have to look back for sure but the first year it was opened it average about 5K but ever since then it hasnt been close to averaging that. There has only been like 6 or 7 years since it has been opened that it averaged more than 3K for a season. Its a wonderful venue and I wish that we could average 5 to 6K a game but not sure if we ever will again. So for the people that were around during that time, what were the thoughts ?

  37. Kind of made me chuckle. He assumes JJ has had other opportunities that he has turned down, that if he is offerred other opportunities that he won't leave, and, worst of all, assumes that there would have been no expectations for Gillepsie in College Station then implies that there should basically be no greater expectations here than what we have already experienced. So JJ has made it and can coast to retirement?? Really a joke of an article. I expect partisianship from the athletic web site, but come on.

  42. I posted in another thread already but we will not be there because it's my baby girl's 7th birthday and she has a 7:45pm soccer game that night. Bummer right? About the soccer game part, not her birthday. We totally wish we could be there! Cheer for us! I know we will be cheering the boys on no matter where we are!
