  1. This game can nearly clinch the division. How many times in the past have we joked about the magnitude of a single game, or a "huge stretch" of games(or again A game for comedic value)? The importance of this game is hard to devalue tho. They beat us the first time in their house(where they've been about as clutch as Denver in their barn) -- we've also been very tough at home. We have a 5 game league winning streak...this ties our longest ever such streak. Can we set a new record on Thursday? Will we?

  2. Billy Gillespie in the house today. Also, Dr. B was there for at least a little while. Walked out past us a little after halftime, and I had a chance to tell her that I appreciated the time she spent with us and that she'll be missed. She says "I'm really going to miss this place, too." Glad she made the trip out today.

  3. To be fair... your first two posts were more about why in the hell can't this coaching staff keep a kid on the roster, ranther than Thomas's actual situation. Not trying to pile on.

  7. I just can't concede the DFW market to TCU and SMU. As a teacher in Fort Worth I can tell you most of my students are very indifferent to TCU. They feel TCU is a school most of them are excluded from having any chance of attending. They see North Texas everywhere in my room, and many prefer to support our large public school, even though we have been struggling. I think much of the population in Dallas probably feels the same way. We must do more to become more visable in DFW.

  8. MeanGreenSoho and I are staying at the Austin, which is right next to the arena, maybe a 5 minute walk. The men's team is staying there as well; in fact, I called them and was able to get the same rate that they gave the team, around $85/night. It's within walking distance of the official Mean Green Hot Springs Headquarters, Lucky's Bar and Grill (great job by the athletic dept. in getting this set up). I agree with Tasty in that you will want to see all of the men's games that you can. Really, nothing beats tournament basketball. We watched quite a few of the women's games last year too, but really enjoyed all of the men's games, even when we weren't playing.

  13. Oh, you can pile on or read into it any way you want. I know what I posted and know what I meant. My second post gives the staff credit in assuming they could do whatever it takes to keep him here. As it turns out that wasn't the case at all and it's a life and death situation which no one could possibly help overcome as we can only imagine. Rick

  14. Give the government an inch, and they will always, ALWAYS, take a mile. Taxes always expand. Just about every tax starts out as a "temporary measure", and just simply gets extended again and again until it becomes permanent. I recently forgot to pay my $2.30 toll from the 183A tollroad in Austin (bill got buried under some paperwork, completely my fault). I was 15 days late and was informed that my new total was $17.30!!! So, a 600% penalty for being a half month late!! Just another way to get in your pocket. I really hate that toll roads are making inroads into Tarrant County, the last major county in Texas that is toll free. This is why the government controlling health care scares me to death.

  19. Are we in T-Ball now were everyone gets a trophy so nobody's feelings get hurt ? This is BIG TIME COLLEGE FOOTBALL. Coaches get fired all the time , it's part of the job. Good coaches get fired , bad coaches get fired it's just the way of life. This is a profession that takes thick skin, there is no shame in getting fired. If these guys were really fired months ago , but the school/dodge/rv didn't want to announce it because feelings might get hurt then this University is in more trouble than I thought. On the flip side , if they weren't told to look for other jobs , but did anyway it just shows the confidence they have in Dodge turning this thing around. Now we will have 2 coaches who are already behind. Coaches learning players and players learning coaches. Who knows maybe if we brought in 2 coaches earlier in the process they could have made a bigger impact on recruiting Either way it's a bad reflection if you ask me Do we have tutors assigned to our football players ? I know most colleges do and I know Dickey had tutors for certain players... I just don't see how the Cole situation could be so bad unless he just really didn't care A All around POS day for the MeanGreen

  21. So when did UNT start paying Vito's salary???
    1 point
  22. Never said they were all equally qualified, just there is a huge group that is considerably more qualified. In any industry, you have to pay if you're looking for gauranteed results. The best will command the highest salaries.

  24. Entry level? Hardly. Yes we are at the bottom of the pay scale, but we are an FBS school. When the entire Tech Sector has shipped jobs over seas and others are shutting down due to poor business cycles, the market becomes saturated with high quality potential employees. You can be shrewd in your salary offerings. Hmm, 120 FBS schools equals 120 head coaching jobs available. 1000+ candidates ready to step right in. Sound familiar, doesn't it?

  26. Not trying to argue, I just see it differently. He may very well develop into a good FBS coach. Unfortunately. he has learned on the job at NT's expense. That expense goes way beyond the subject of money, IMO.

  27. Dodge gambled with the all out punt block. I think percentages are probably better for a blocked punt than a return for touchdown. Still, you can run punt block and still have a single return man to field teh kick. May not get much with the blocking scheme waived for the rush.

  28. Not a silly half baked analogy,IMO. RV is the CEO, not Dodge. RV has a UNT Football machine that's in bad shape: inefficient, minimal uptime, poor producer. Instead of hiring from a saturated market of quality Service Engineers with experience on that system, he hires a guy straight out of "school". This new guy has to learn on the job, pull out manuals & schematics, and contact vendors for minor issues; issues an experienced Engineer could solve fairly quickly. Now, the company loses confidence in this machine because of it's poor performance and even considers reducing funding for repairs/upgrades/etc. Sound familiar??? It does to me, I see it all the time. You CANNOT substitute anything for experience. Period.

  29. You guys might want to check in to all the Federal gun-control legislation the Democratic party is working on with regards to gun ownership & ammunition and then you might realize that there is a real reason for all this. From every bullet will be registered, to all out ban of guns. Never say never In Congress is House Resolution 45, a federal license to own guns. It is pretty intrusive and obnoxious. Plus talk of the only legal ammo would have to be registered with a serial number on each bullet with a per bullet tax. That means old ammo becomes illegal as well as all reloading. Those are two of the things I know is going on.

  31. It's got everything to do with how people belittle the past. Everything! And our lack of respect for the past, or tradition as some may like to call it, may just be why we can't average 2600 fans a game in this greatest era of NT basketball of all time? Rick

  33. OK, a bit over the top. And for this board...somewhat uncalled for. I wouldn't know what they "do first" in a socialist country, since I've never lived in one. This notion that the government is going to go house to house and take your guns is pure bullshit. If the govenment was inclined to do that, it would have done so during the Clinton Administration, when there (rightly) WAS a ban on assault-type weapons. No one has any business (other than the aforementioned fantacies of shooting people) owning any assault-type weapons. Hoarding ammo and assault-type weapons is only going to benefit the makers of guns and ammo. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the ones behind all the hysterical blogs about Obama and (alleged) gun control. I'm sorry, but I thought that the average person was having a hard time paying their mortgages and buying the essentials for their families. Of course, the dimwitted do have their own priorities, and there are obviously plenty of people out there ready to exploit their lack of reasoning abilites. One of my former supervisors (a Major in the Army) used to advise people that the ideal weapon for home defense is a legal sawed-off shotgun...like this... http://www.winchesterguns.com/prodinfo/cat...52&cat=021C

  34. The Bush administration (who presided over this mess) starting throwing billions in bail out money even before the election and the current administration took over. You see control by govenment, I see a return to sane regulation. Business has been preying on the poorly informed (remember all those sub-prime mortages?) for too long. Big business and Bankers are going to have to start really telling the truth when they do business from now on. I applaud the changes and regulations. Especially since they have now started turning their attention to the biggest bloodsuckers of all, the credit card companys. I look forward to an era of "bloodsuckers beware" instead of buyer beware. AND if the government goes too far in it's control, the boodsuckers (and all their minions and toadies) have only themselves to blame.

  35. Silver, Your attempting the impossible. You're trying to convince non-thinkers (KRAM) to think. It is an impossible task. His family and friends have been attempting it for years. Take some advice from a friend, don't be dragged down to his level. Continue to think through things before you make your decision and don't blindly follow the crowd who want to bash the president, who won the election with a clear cut majority of the popular vote as well as the electorial college, which is more than can be said about the previous administration.

  36. Ok, he was humoring the other person and you overheard it. 99% huh. Did you take that survey yourself? I was not talking about all gun owners, just the ones that want to own assault-type weapons and/or 50 ca. sniper rifles. Once again, they only want to own those type weapons because they have fantacies about shooting someone. OR maybe it's a more affordable phallic symbol for them than a Hummer or a Vette.

BTW, I don't have any buddies in Washington. I probably have an FBI file however. It probably has something to do with that solicitation for contributions that the John Tower re-election committee sent me (back in 69) and my "colorful response" that I mailed back to the committee.........
