  2. Just another example of class warfare. Maybe if you applied yourself and had the work ethic of these men and women and ran for office and made laws you too could have their benefits...but no, you're like every other Socialist in this country and just want to redistribute...if someone else has something better than you you want to tear them down rather than strive to be more like them and achieve! This is not the country I grew up in

  5. The coaches and AD will do their jobs regardless of what we write on this board... I have confidence that they will identify the right guy for the job. However, if we discontinued these 'uselesss threads', there would be nothing to talk about! It's fun to speculate!

  6. Not quite the right quote, but close. I was more going for the Obi-Wan line "That boy's our last hope" line from ESB. (Of course Yoda replies with "No, there is another") ((And now I've outed myself as a huge SW geek))

  7. I am a retired engineer and have a real estate license in the state of Texas. The father of a UNT grad. I have said the same thing about the two coaches in question for three years. I have never bad mounthed the Dodge's or will I. I liked DD but knew it was time for a change how it was handled was in question but that is history. Go to every away game and love to see the boys play.

  8. Yeah, because these lists NEVER include the guy we actually hire. Who's On Your Oc Short List?

  9. So you never heard of Canales nor really wanted him? Seems to me he has a great resume. I think Canales is proof we now have the money, desire and where with all to go out and get solid position coaches and will do so.

  10. Hey, when there's reason to be optimistic, I'm optimistic. When the thing is off the rails, I'm going to say it's off the rails. I've got to tell you, my dauber was down when Dodge was retained and announced all staff was going to be retained. I wonder if RV hadn't lost his sports mind...or, was just in a tight because of (1) compromising photos/video Dodge had of him, or (2) legitimate budgetary problems. But, as this thing has shaken out, I can't help but think that behind the scenes the wheels were turning to give the remaining high school staffers a cover for them "leaving" without firing them outright. And, let's be honest - they were hired in places Todd Dodge has strong ties. Whatever the case may be, it's good for the program because we've picked up a really experienced offensive coordinator and Todd Dodge has humbled himself to backseat driver status. To me, that's the mark of a good coach - he learned what his strengths and weaknesses are at this level, and he's adjusted the way the thing rolls forward as a result. I didn't think he had it in him, but he did. Thankfully. The reality of the whole thing is this - we're in the Sun Belt, the lowest conference on the food chain. It shouldn't have struggled along for as many years as it has. I think this thing will flip really quickly for us now. I also think the Tortas Cubanas at La Duni are good, amigos. Don't hold back when you are dining there. Just order one up and see. ¡Taco Borjas über alles!

  11. I imagine we have been searching for a WR Coach for a while now, and if we have not settled on the candidate yet we are probably down to finalists by now. I really think we will do very well.

  15. If useless then why add to it? I enjoy reading who others think would be a good fit. And many times it is as close as we ever get to civil football discussion. (And I think when people post titles like: "A few WR coaches to consider." They aren't issuing a mandate to the AD but simply saying - "Hey, if I were picking I'd look at these guys first."

  17. Most of the folks who post on our bball board only like to talk when we lose. You should have been here when we were struggling early if you like content.

  18. Ummm, have you seen some of the posts on this board by our graduates? An accidental (I assume) flip of two letters is pretty minor, relatively speaking.

  19. When I saw the thread title, I quickly had a list of 4 or 5 posters in mind that MUST have started this thread.... Sadly, ArkStFan, who is one of my favorite posters on the interweb, was not one of them. Let's just chalk this up to a bad typo at a bad time from an otherwise great poster... like a Peyton Manning Super Bowl pick. Otherwise, agree w CMJ - if ULL can pull out a win, THEN I'll at least begin to think 1 is a real possibility. Until then, I focus on missing WKU as long as possible.

  20. Agree. I'm just hoping that our guys take care of what they can control by winning the remaining games on the schedule. We do that, and I feel confident that we'll be in position for a first round bye in the SBC tourney, which I view as a significant acheivement considering the way things were looking early in the season.

  21. We're still needing too much to go right for us to get too excited about the Division, much less the overall #1. Needing two teams to lose twice PLUS winning out is alot to hope for. As i said earlier, the schedule favors us, but that's still alot of "ifs" - you know?

  22. You know USM has an odd fan base, some really, really super people and then there is a crazed fringe that thinks they have been denied their rightful place in the top four of the SEC and is really hard to deal with and almost no one in-between.

  27. I am so happy with the direction Dodge is going, I wonder if you are right about the "higher Power" and I am also wondering how much this board plays in to it. I used to figure the board had relatively no affect on any decisions. But after some conversations over the past year I think there is much more influence, especially with the recent events involving fans. It makes me wonder if posts by several on here like TFLF and Tasty that had some really compelling arguments for staff change. Again I am happy with the changes and I expect that practice this year will bring a whole new level of intense. I think we have a good shot at heading the big NO for a Bowl. 2010 its time to go back again!!! NEW ORLEANS, NEW ORLEANS. I am ready to break out my beads.

  29. The Blake Dunham reference was not implying any ill thoughts toward Kokjohn. You have to admire a kid like Kokjohn who busts his rear in so many ways to contribute in a small (albeit imporant) manner on Saturdays. But, that being said I wouldn't count out any of the newcomers either.

  31. I don't think Texas will move (reason later) but here is why they'd be nuts to not consider it. First, it is a guaranteed increase in revenue of roughly $10 million if Big 10 revenue grows the 9% needed to not change the distribution. In truth more than that. The Big 10 Network charges a reported 10 cents per month to cable and a satellite providers in non-Big 10 markets per household. There are roughly 8 million TV households in Texas, roughly half (very old numbers) have cable or satellite so that's 4 million. Figure half have Big 10 Net (probably high percentage wise but makes up for old numbers regarding cable penetration), so that is 2 million. That means Big 10 Net makes about $200,000 a month or $1.2 million a year from subscribers in Texas without selling any ads. If they add a team in Texas, the rate goes to a reported $1 per month. That takes annual revenue to $12 million per year in Texas without adding any subscribers. If there is just a 25% increase in the number of subscribers that revenue now goes up to $15 million per year. Viewership also rises so do ad prices. Remember also that Texas represents the bulk of the value of the Big XII tv contract. The Big XII receives a reported $60 million per year. Conservatively I'd estimate that Texas represents $15 million to $20 million of that when it was negotiated and is worth easily double that (remember Vandy's share of the SEC contract is $17 million). Now why won't they go? Politics. In 1990 when Arkansas announced its departure, Texas was given a no leave mandate. It took a few years to soften it up into a partial leave and it required setting the stage for that. A bolt out of the blue won't cut it. But Texas also go concessions from the SWC to keep it patched together. If you are AD at Iowa State you might not like the idea of giving up part of your revenue in a new revenue sharing scheme that provides greater reward to schools for BCS appearances, NCAA appearances, and television appearances but the reduction in income pales in comparison to losing key home games and losing access to the best TV opportunities when you are playing well. Texas is going to hold the Big 12 hostage and take a larger cut of the pie. It will narrow their league revenue gap compared to Ohio State and Alabama and let them keep their local schedule. Texas Tech may not like having their check look like what Louisiville is getting from the Big East but its better than backfilling with MWC schools.

  32. Having just come from the Olympics, many of the locals were shaking their heads, saying "I knew it" when the problems with Cypress came up. It was a huge issue that those venues were placed at Cypress mountain, which is often light on snowfall, and not at Whistler. The events in Whistler will be fine. The may be delayed a couple of days for weather, as was the mens downhill, but that happens at every olympics. I think the Canadians are doing a fine job. If you were stupid enough to buy tickets to the Cypress events without checking out the particulars, well, buyer beware. Nothing but good things from my experience at Whistler mountain.

  46. When Dodge is fired, I think his job came down to what SMU & TCU have done. SMU moreso, IMO. Bowl eligible after just 2 seasons speaks volumes. Yes, I would absolutely agree June is in a completely different league than Dodge. Life isn't fair.....

  47. I think the issue here has never really been about Dan and his coaching ability, but more of "silver spooning" his son into the starting QB role. Cody Hawkins is NOT a FBS caliber player, period. You think the Dodge's have pissed some people off here, just take a look at CU and the Hawkins clan. Wow. At least Riley is a legitimate D1 athlete.
