The Office of Governor Jim Gibbons was notified today that President Barack Obama has refused to meet with the Governor and key business leaders from Nevada. Governor Gibbons requested the meeting in a letter to President Obama so the President could address statements he made that were critical to Nevada and have caused economic damage to convention business and tourism business in the Silver State. Earlier this year, the President told an audience in Elkhart, Indiana, "You can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer's dime." That quote was seen by many as an insult to Las Vegas and as a message to companies across the Nation to stay away from Las Vegas for corporate meetings and conventions....

...The cancelled conventions and meetings have cost the Las Vegas economy over $100-million, not including gaming revenue.

Big fan of Vegas? What's your favorite part of their economy? Hookers, Gambling, or the way it protects the sanctity of marriage? Please choose one (and no, employing Elvis impersonators is not an option. Everyone is in agreement on that).

That's a huge leap of logic there. So uhm, -1 on this.

And really, no one should be making trips to Vegas on the taxpayer's dime. I think the Nevada governor is talking out of his rectum, and those thinking "oh no, I shouldn't go to Vegas" need to remember that there's the all important, "on the taxpayer's dime" statement at the end of it.

Ugh.

Since Obama has dumped bundles of money from helicopters on almost every industry, the argument can be made that a lot of companies attending a Vegas convention would be "on the taxpayer's dime."

This is one of the many dangers of massive bailouts - suddenly the President and his cabinet act like they can tell your business what to do, like telling GM they need to cut their advertising budget. That's logical. Slash the marketing budget that helps generate sales and revenue.

Butt out, Barack. The problem is not that business models have failed, it's that credit markets completely dried up and many businesses are having trouble financing operations. Stop telling business leaders how to run their firms.

The problem stems from companies that haven't received hand outs from the government not wanting to draw the ire of the media (and therefore the public). BO just saying that certain companies shouldn't be doing something on the tax payers' dime made a huge impression on companies that have the fear that they could be next. The government is getting involved in private business at an alarming rate.

no worries, though in typical Democrat/Liberal hypocrisy Obama will be coming to Las Vegas soon for a high dollar fund raiser along side Barbie Striesand and Sheryl Crow.

Guess they will not need much TP if they follow Crow's lead.
