Is it just me or is anyone else getting tired of being the laughing stock of the whole country in FB? You can't tell me that in any remotely similar situation that some kid would brave the winters of Boise rather than staying in Texas, but it's happening because absolutely no one has any respect at all for UNT. I truly hope that Riley can instill some pride in this team. I have not seen that spark and confidence since the days of Scott Hall. Give me someone with desire and fire in his gut and I'll take on your pampered blue chippers any day. It just seems we no longer get those recruits who have that pride and desire.

For the past 2-3 years, Boise has signed players out of Houston, something unheard of prior to the Broncs getting in the WAC and the national stage.

You don't think UNT should strive to be Tier 1, the 15th best public university in the nation, and top 50 overall nationally? Or how about an average freshman retention rate of 92.8 %? Ours is 75%, in case you were wondering.

I think that we all get that you hate UT, but at some point you might want to consider the facts.

My point was simply this...

HARVARD

UT

This is an excellent point. Is the SBC thinking about expanding to help Denver? Why should the WAC expand to save Tech?

Sorry to report that the SBC isn’t going to do anything for Denver as I was told a couple weeks ago that Denver has informed the SBC they are leaving the conference in 2010 to join the West Coast Conference (Santa Clara, Portland, Pepperdine. U of San Diego, St. Mary's etc.) This will have a more dramatic effect on sports other than football but may just be the impetus for UNT to consider other conference options. Or, for some type of expansion within the Sunbelt that would hopefully favor football. For most other sports at UNT, Denver has been our travel partner and after next year we will be have an uneven conference of 11 (which leads me to conjure a post for another day, "Why doesn't the SBC drop UNO"?).

Frankly, the WCC is a better fit for Denver as the conference is a bunch of smaller private universities with very competitive sports other than football...and a more favorable travel area for Denver.

I've always wanted to go to Moscow.........oh.....what......it's a different Moscow.........nevermind then.

Remember, whenever someone says how bad Fouts Field is, remind them of the Idaho Vandals facility:

3,772 miles to Honolulu, HI

1,977 miles to Moscow, ID

1,653 miles to San Jose, CA

1,644 miles to Boise, ID

1,629 miles to Reno, NV

1,521 miles to Fresno, CA

1,405 miles to Logan, UT

683 miles to Las Cruces, NM

289 miles to Ruston, LA

First off - Dallas Green hit the nail on the head... this team needs a leader. We haven't had one since Scott Hall.

Secondly, the miles are not as big of a deal as the cost. The problem with those schools has always been the cost to get there. While Miami might be far from Dallas - it is a cheap flight. The same can be said for every school in the Belt for the most part. In order to get to Idaho - you can fly into Boise but there are rarely direct flights, you have to go through Denver and sometimes Washington. Idaho, you can fly into Seattle and charter a bus or fly into Boise and charter a bus, either way it is about 3 hours from a major airport and WAY too far to get a charter. San Jose - usually have to go through a hub like LA or Burbank... Same thing with Fresno, not many direct flights if any at all. Logan, I have made that flight - LONG way from a major airport, which means a charter, which means $$$. Las Cruces, not too bad - flight to El Paso and 2 hour bus ride but again - expensive. Heck, the only affordable destination is Reno. Ruston is a double edged sword, you can fly into Monroe and charter there but you are looking at charter flight and then charter bus.. Hawaii - umm, yeah.

Now - this is just for football. Now think of basketball, volleyball, soccer, and keep adding 13 more sports until you are done. We are a couple of years from adding a baseball team in the Belt... you can throw that out the window for the WAC. The travel costs alone would cripple us.

I just do not see the fascination. Maybe just wanting a change because we stink right now? Change helps to take the focus off the elephant in the room?

Pull up the Sun Belt map and the WAC map. Get online and price out a flight for one. And yes - the athletic department DOES operate like normal human beings, they don't get a special "educational flying" fare. Airfares are up - baggage is being charged for - everything is more expensive now and it is going to keep going up as oil continues to rise about $100 a barrel. The Belt doesn't have a Boise St yet but Troy, FAU, and even North Texas can get there as quickly as they can fall. The top 3 in the WAC are better than the top 3 in the Belt - but the others are all on a level playing field and I could argue that NMSU, USU, and Idaho would be beat by any school in the Belt, including WKY. The difference is at the top and teams fall in and out of the top.

I wonder how folks will feel when Troy ends the season at 10-2 and ranked in the top 25.

It is just funny that our fans blame our problems on the Belt... at least we have a chance of winning in the Belt. And if you seriously think that a recruit gives a darn about the WAC, that is crazy. No games that their family can travel to and if they have a great season - the reward is a bowl in freaking Boise, IDAHO... or Hawaii (most people cannot afford that).. the one bowl that they have that we could realistically get to would be the New Mexico Bowl but I wouldn't trade New Orleans for New Mexico, no thank you.

That is because of the ON THE FIELD success, not the conference, don't you think? If it was the conference - wouldn't recruits be lining up to play for Idaho if Boise didn't offer? How is the WAC helping NMSU or USU? Their attendance has gone down. God, I do not understand why anyone would want us in the Big West, err WAC again.

They play basketball in that same airplane hangar...

Good yto have you back posting stebo. You are willing to research and post what I've known but been too lazy to research for confirmation.

Steps to a better conference:

1. Build your facility

2. Build your football team and start winning games

3. Send basketball team to the NCAA tournament again.

4. Start playing baseball

5. Stop referring to Georgia, Oklahoma or anyone else as a body bag game and start referring to them as opportunities to show the nation that you can beat anyone at their place.

5. Convenience CUSA that you are a better fit then UTEP.

6. Have CUSA tell SMU if they dont like it then they can leave and go to the belt.

Why does CUSA even want Tulsa, SMU, Rice and Tulane. Everyone knows, at least I do, what having small privates does for your reputation.

Rice = Baseball, you are kidding yourself if think that CUSA does not take baseball seriously. Dont ask me why because I can't answer that. But it is what it is. Good location for CUSA

Tulane = historically has a fairly good basketball program and they do have a national championship is football. We all know what having a good basketball program does for a conference. good location for CUSA

Tulsa = a good football program and an Oklahoma school. Again good location for CUSA

SMU = good question. I would like to see them gone I don't care if the metroplex is a good location for CUSA

Honestly, you and MGW have taken my post way too seriously. I understand Rice and Tulsa, Tulane a little, but what about SMU is attractive?

The women, so long as they don't ever say anything.

Otherwise, not much at all, sir. Not much at all.
