Just A Theory And Opinion

I wanted to start off by saying this is just a HYPOTHESIS on why a few of Dodges recruits are leaving..I have no inside info on this......

My theory is many of Dodge's recruits are kids coming from large affluent 5A schools with in some cases better facilities (ie stadium) then we have. Not the Athletic center, that is first class..

But many of these 5A programs have better school spirit and community support.

They are also use to being pampered and or sheltered from the real world.

When they get here they realize they are not in their "safe zone" anymore.

The fact that many have the resources to go to a private school and do not NEED football as an escape.

I think you throw in losing everyweek, sometimes 77-20 and you have a 19-20 year old kid wondering "what they heck am I doing here!"

Again this is just my HYPOTHESIS. I know many programs have kids leave after a year or two. I just hope and pray the stadium passes and Dodge gets this thing rolling again.....I miss walking out of Fouts with a "W"..

That's not a theory. That is a hypothesis.

I don't disagree with you but what is the solution? Start recruiting from the projects in Harlem?? Sounds to me like we have a bunch of babies on the team who'd rather lie down and quit than fight the adversity that faces them. When the going gets tough, run to Mommy and Daddy...is that our new team motto?? I know these few can't be representative of the entire team but one bad apple spoils the whole barrel. We've had more than a couple of bad apples.

I fear there may be a more serious problem here. While I agree that most of Dodge's recruits are not used to losing and some can't seem to hack it, I'm afraid they aren't buying into Todd Dodge and don't believe this big green ship can be righted. Because, if losing was the problem and you believed that problem would be alleviated within the next two or three years, why would you give and quit now...when those future victories would be so much sweeter after this bitter taste of losing??? Maybe the tunnel is too long and too dark to see the light at the end??

Sounds like a plausible theory in a couple of the cases. Now this is just PURE speculation, but I hope that Dibrell didn't become a quitter partially because he sensed that his buddy was going to lose his job shortly to the son of the coach, and he and his buddy have both been discussing alternative destinations. Again, pure speculation only.

I'm 37 and I can barely stomach the losses and I haven't played football since High School.

If anything, it takes great character to hang in there so it speaks volumes that a vast majority of our players are plowing through this season one week at a time despite the catastrophic losses.

TD wants character guys on his team and I'm glad that has and will keep bringing these types of young men into our program.

Me and a couple of other Mean Green fans, rightly or wrongly, were thinking the same thing.

This would be a big mistake, in my opinion, replacing Vizza.

Should have redshirted Riley and let Vizza and Dibrell have their time.

Putting Riley at QB against Rice even for just one play was a harbinger of things to come. Isn't Riley now practicing at QB with the second team?

After the terrible and boring start wouldn't you be susceptible to a change at QB? We saw way too much "air attack" last year not to know something isn't right.

Will Riley win? Yes. But Vizza could have too if he had been giving a fair chance.

Just my opinion, nothing more.

Hypothesis or theory it's accurate. And may I ask a rehtorical question? Who can offer an affluent atmosphere in the same area running the same offense? Look for June Jones next preferred walk on after the Padrons ( Kyle on scholarship and Justin walking on) to be Sam Dibrell!!

That was my fear the minute they hired Jones......they can offer the same "lifestyle" many of Dodge's recruits are familiar with.

I think winning cures all...and a brand new stadium would not hurt either.

I have faith Dodge save this ship, but he better hurry before the USS Mean Green takes on any more water

Maybe its the coach. Why isn't Dodge held accountable? Maybe this coaching staff and the team are not on the same page. There sure is a lot of smoke in this program for there not to be deeper issues. It better get fixed quicked, and a new stadium, sorry to say, is not going to fix everything.

I have another theory, opinion, hypothesis on the coach.

I do think the coach has a lot to do with this current situation. Is it stubborness, arrogance or simply being overwhelmed. i think he is suffering growing pains on the job, I just hope he can turn it around HERE and become a great coach.

I hope he learns from his mistakes HERE and does not go on to somewhere else to apply what he learned HERE.

He would be a good offense coach in the college ranks. However, if he fails here, his only head coaching opportunity will be back in high school.

I think you can be "high school" tough without being "college tough." Just like you can be "high school fast" without being "college fast."

At different levels, there are different expectations and different standards of what is par for the course. Take me, for example. I am not "college tough" or "high school tough." I'm probably not even "junior high tough." If we had a classification for "out of shape office jockey tough", then I'd probably be middle to low rated there.

In order for Dibrell to play for SMU he has to be released by NT. I doubt it would ever happen. Padron was released due to medical reasons and then pulled the okie doke.
