UNT head coach Dan McCarney said Warner suffered a “Jones fracture,” a break in the fifth metatarsal bone. Warner was in a walking boot after the game and took a cart to the locker room.

He will have surgery this week and is expected to be ready for the beginning of spring practice.

UNT lost starting outside linebacker Jeremy Phillips to a knee injury in a Week 2 loss to Houston. He has not played since, but is expected to return late in the season

“He made a great contribution to our team,” McCarney said of Warner. “There is no question we are going to miss him. That is a great example of the type of young men we need to bring in to get this program to where we want it to be some day.”

Best of luck to Freddie in the surgery and rehab process. He is a key piece of the foundation for this program. He was truly fun to watch this season, and hopefully he can recover and be stronger than ever.

Look forward to a duo of he and Marcus Trice next fall at CB...

why don't we just plan on Med RS Phillips? rather than waste eligibility to a lost cause late in the season?

You sure, the coaches seem to be showing the opposite with some of their play-calling and personnel moves, but I am just some slow, fat slob typing on a keyboard.
