TROY – No Lance Dunbar for most of the game? No problem for North Texas.

No ability to hold on to the ball or stop the other team? Big problems for Troy.

The Trojans fell to North Texas 38-33 Saturday, marking the team’s fifth straight loss and officially guaranteeing that the season will end without a bowl game. Troy is now 2-7, 1-4 in Sun Belt play.

“It’s just a season-long nightmare so far,” quarterback Corey Robinson said. “It just seems like we can’t find a way to get it done, throughout the whole game. I guess we’re just going to have to keep searching for it and try to wake up.”

Troy gave up 503 yards, but the game turned after a deep touchdown pass by North Texas and then a Trojan offensive fumble. Derek Thompson hit Chris Bynes with a 46-yard touchdown pass to give UNT a 31-27 lead with 13:24 left.

On Troy’s next possession, Robinson was hit from behind and fumbled. UNT recovered at the Troy 6, and James Hamilton, who ran for 105 yards and two scores as Dunbar left with a knee injury, scored on the first play to give UNT a 38-27 lead. Dunbar, a Sun Belt Player of the Year candidate, ran for just 38 yards and had to leave the game twice after injuring the right knee.
