THE STAND

Christopher Walker

Red October?

Ooh. Yes. One of my favorite movie adaptations ever.

Plus, it adds to my running Tom Clancy-Skladany mythos.

Oooh, man.... hold on.

If you had 4 downs from within the 5 yard line to score on our D, how would you do it?

Try to go outside? Pound up the middle? Play Action to a TE?

I would avoid going outside of my line at all costs. The UNT LB's are just too quick at getting sideline to sideline. I'd just try and pound it up the middle and maybe play action to TE or a slot guy coming across the middle. Or, throw up a jump ball to my tallest WR in the corner of the end zone.

Besides being quick, they, and the DB's, played their responsibilities to perfection taking away Rice's options. Text book perfect defense.

9. The students/fans getting louder and louder as "The Stand" progressed.

This! The highlight video with George is amazing with how load it gets with the Rice QB running for his life. What a fun play to watch. There is so much going on in that one play.

In all fairness we probably owe a debt of gratitude to the Rice coaching staff for their bonehead decision to go for it (twice) instead of just taking the 3 points on that first series. Just think what we would have missed if they had simply kicked the field goal.

Ladies and gents...

There are time in life when things just don't go your way...

you may be stuck in traffic...

you may be out of ketchup...

you may have lost your keys...

you may have been dumped by your significant other...

you may not be able to get your significant other away from you...

your boss may have just taken a sh*t on that project you worked on all weekend...

for times like these... there is a prescription...

that prescription is known as...

The Stand...

Guys that was a historical moment in college football... when a Defense stop the ball for 8 times inside the 5 yards, I think it didn't happen before!! So let's make something out of it, nick name, t shirts, posters, frames, promotions, anything. As someone said keep this thread alive forever.

I was unable to watch the game and have only seen the highlights on MGSports...can someone give me a bit of context as to why Rice had so many downs within ten yards of the end zone? I'm assuming they went for it on 4th down and there was a defensive penalty? Legit call?
