Im not buying the structural innability excuse for one moment. The Super Pit's roof was more than likely over built as would be expected to hold against structural strain due to time and gravity, weather of all kinds, and it had a center board for many many years up and until a few years back. So there should be no reason it cant happen again.

And I believe all facilities fall under the same director of facilities for the university(Charles Jackson). If there's a need for improvements for the Super Pit for all uses, and there is, it can and will be done. But someone has to request for it to be done and it has to be in the budget before hand. That may have already happened? It may not?

It would be interesting to find out what, if anything is in the future budget plans?

Rick

It would be awesome if it were a center-hanging scoreboard with all video panels like Tulsa is installing. I'm not sure how they'll do it if they put them on the sides...unless they make the panels completely digital.

This would be my guess. A completely digital board the same size or maybe a little larger then the entire scoreboard structure that is there now. During the game you can have advertisements and the player stats but then use the full size of the board for the instant replays and videos played during the game.

"Similar to the video boards at Apogee"

Maybe they'll be in the corners like the one smaller board? That was the first thought I had...hope I'm wrong!

Is this currently going on all stealth-like, or is this an offseason project?

My understanding is that the roof cannot support a center-hanging scoreboard?

The Pit had a center hanging score board in the 1980's.

Building codes change. Scoreboards get obese .

*shrug*

Just repeating what Rick V said.

Code is code. "Can do" can't do nothing about it.

New boards must be lighter. When I was at KU they said same thing. But now KU has center hung video board. My new TV weighs 50% of what my old TV weighs. Assume same would be true of video boards.

Lets continue mentioning "center hanging scoreboard", until the ad logs on and gets the message!

I heard Craig James killed five center hanging scoreboards while at SMU.

Just wondering... What about a really large set of white hanging boards to shine a high powered set of projectors onto? Doable?? Is there a super Powerful Chuck Norris projector that can project bright/ far enough for a 20' by 10' area above the pit (x4 sides of course)

That can be done but wouldn't be as good of a picture.

A center hanging video board is desperately needed. Anything less would be amatuer. And lets get the floor seating situation repaired as well.
