Only Bama has never been known as the "Alabama Elephants." We have historically been known as the "North Texas Eagles."

But let's not start that debate again.

Actually, the story of the Red Elephants nickname sounds very similar to the history of the Mean Green nickname. The Mean Green nickname just expanded to refer to the whole team and stuck better.

NBC 5 was at the Bridge today around noon. I just got back home. Have they run a story on it, or will it be for the 10 p.m. news?
