Not a bad group to be mentioned with!

NORTH TEXAS - Middle Tennessee showed last season that the Sun Belt has talent as it ran through its non-conference slate before being upset in the conference tournament. The Mean Green are going to be favorites in the SBC next season primarily due to their star forward and former top 100 recruit, Tony Mitchell. North Texas finished just one game short of the Big Dance last season. New head coach Tony Benford will have the task of leading North Texas and his star sophomore to the NCAA Tournament before the program joins the Conference USA.

Former North Texas player Forrest Robinson has landed at South Plains C.C. The freshman forward left North Texas for the opportunity to play more extensive minutes at a juco to develop his game. The 6-10 forward/center will be eligible to sign with North Texas, or any other school, for the 2013-2014 season.

This was surely the best developmental route for Forrest and also freed a North Texas scholarship slot for a player that will likely be more integral to this coming season: a great move for all parties involved. Good luck Forrest, we'll all be cheering for you, and hopefully you may be wearing the green again in coming seasons.

OK, following up on the comment about getting a group of willing Mean Green supporters together one Saturday to pass out football posters...we are set to go on SATURDAY, JULY 28th beginning at 9:00AM.

I have arranged to pick up a stack of posters and, hopefully some mini-schedules, for folks to pass out to accomodating businesses in the Denton-Dallas-Ft. Worth or where ever areas.

Those willing to "donate" as little as one hour or as much time as you have to help that Saturday...please PM me and I'll give you the rest of the details and assign an area for you to cover that morning. I can only work that morning and I am sure others are tied up at various times as well...so if you want to just come pick up posters and distribute to your assigned area later...great, no problem. But, the more folks we have going around that morning the better.

PLEASE wear Mean Green gear as well on your appointed rounds....

OK, so, I know some folks have already expressed interest in helping with this project...it really will take very little time...so, just PM me here on GMG.Com and we'll get all the details out to you as far as meet up location. If you have an area in mind that you would like to cover just let me know and we'll make sure you get that assignment as well.

So...who is in on this fun little Saturday project??????

ALSO...if you are a business owner and would like a poster delivered to your place of business...just PM me or let me know in this thread and I'll make certain you are "hand delivered" a poster...and hopefully some mini-schedules if they are available as well.

Folks, this is the sort of thing you can do to support the Mean Green and to make a positive difference for YOUR university and YOUR team that really doesn't cost anything at all in the way of dollars...maybe a little gas money, but that's it. So, if you can and would like to be part of this event...let me know. Should be fun!

GO MEAN GREEN! Hope to see at least 8-10 interested folks...won't take long and it's a positive way to help.

1. Tony Mitchell 6’8.5/236 7’3 (Dallas, TX) North Texas -- Mitchell was easily the top prospect in the event. He's an absolute beast and he took his aggression out on the rim on multiple occasions. He also had some jaw dropping rebounds in which he went way above the rim to bring the ball down. He's similar to Thomas Robinson (almost identical measurements) in that he has a chiseled physique and loves to play physical in the paint. He's also got excellent versatility with the ability to knock down mid range shots and also pass the ball. One scout told me he had Mitchell top 15 had he entered the 2012 draft. He could duplicate T-Rob with a monster sophomore season (he redshirted as a FR) and be taken as high as 5th overall.

What makes me want to quit donating? Is threads like this. Who gives a flying f-ck. This program needs money and more fans. Neither of which hinge on whether fans can attend practice. I read threads like this and think to myself maybe it is time to quit throwing good money after bad. We will always be small time.

Unfortunately for me I have some sort of addiction to the hope of better days for the Mean Green. So I keep sending out the checks.

On a side note. My wife and her entire family attended Ohio State. My father in law and I give about the same amount of money to our respective universities. He gets a bumper sticker and the right to buy 4 nose bleed seats on the 50 yard line. That's it!
What have I recieved? Well I get the right and do buy four club level seats that cost less than his nosebleed seats at the horseshoe. I have attended multiple events in Houston for donors and prospective donors. I have had dinner with the university president. I have had drinks with representatives from the athletic department in Houston. Not to mention the usual gifts from umbrellas to grill sets and so on. As I said before. I don't donate that much! Especially when compared with major universities. Yet here we are discussing the 5 fans that want to see a practice and at what giving level that should be. Instead let's discuss how being a Mean Green fan and donor is the best deal in college sports and according to the attendance and donor levels no one seems to give a crap. I could care less about open or closed practices. What I do care about is that at some point we either hit critical mass or people get tired of trying.

Ok that turned into a rant, sorry. Dear God please let this be a winning season

UNT continued to quickly fill out its recruiting class, especially when it comes to offensive linemen, this month.

The latest player to add to the list of UNT commitments is Fort Bend Austin offensive lineman Dominick Walker.

Walker, 6-5, 275, actually committed to UNT a couple of weeks ago, but I didn’t get him on the phone until this afternoon.
