I take my vacation around this football schedule a year in advance and plan accordingly for every home game working family schedules so that we can make kickoff times.

I've already missed one game and was late to another. Now I'll miss the first half of another because the kickoff was moved up and it's too late to make the necessary changes.

It's just another example of a growing list in how little this athletic departmentt cares about it's loyal, investing customers, who hasn't seen more than three wins in a single year in 5 years, but who will be counted on to show up in November once the season is way out of hand.

LAFAYETTE, La.- North Texas, despite hanging with Louisiana-Lafayette for most of the game, could not hold off the Ragin' Cajuns and fell 30-10 at Cajun Field. Louisiana-Lafayette's 17 fourth-quarter points put the game out of reach for the Mean Green.

The Mean Green (2-5, 1-2 Sun Belt) held the Cajuns (5-1, 4-0 Sun Belt) to just 13 points through three quarters, but could not hold them off in the fourth quarter, as Louisiana-Lafayette pulled away. Louisiana-Lafayette was able to contain North Texas running back Lance Dunbar, to just 53 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

Brelan Chancellor led North Texas with 189 all-purpose yards, and nearly threw for a touchdown on a trick play during the first quarter, but Ivan Delgado just missed hauling it in in the end zone. Chancellor caught three passes for 29 yards, and rushed twice on end arounds for 32 yards

The Big East plans to invite Boise State, Air Force and Navy as football-only members, and Central Florida to compete in all sports, after it doubles the exit fee for current members to $10 million.

An official in the Big East, speaking on condition of anonymity because the conference had not authorized anyone to speak publicly about its plans, told The Associated Press the invites could go out as soon as next week, but could take longer.

The Big East is still considering adding Temple, and UCF's Conference USA rivals SMU and Houston. Temple, which was kicked out of the Big East in 2005, plays football in the Mid-American Conference.

The Texas schools would replace the presence in the state the Big East thought it was going to have with TCU, and help make the move to the Big East more palatable to Boise State.

The Saudi ambassador, al-Jubeir, spent some of his formative years in North Texas, graduating from the University of North Texas with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1982. In 2006, UNT awarded him an honorary doctorate and the Distinguished Alumnus award. At the time, groups such as 9-11 Families for a Secure America objected to the university's designation given his role in the Saudi government.

Counter Punched

By Harry, in GoMeanGreen.com,

If this contest was a boxing match, North Texas was the quintessential counter puncher. Rather than take unnecessary risks to dominate early, they patiently waited for FAU to make a mistake. Once the Owls showed their chins, the Mean Green would decisively respond with an uppercut that would, like Little Mac in Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, send them to the mat. All of UNT’s touchdowns came off turnovers.

The weather was a real factor in this one, tactically and strategically. Both teams played a 10 yard game in the first half filled with dumpoff passes and handoffs. Once FAU got behind, they were forced to throw into a swirling wind, and the inaccuracy that followed keyed North Texas on three key interceptions.

Offensively, North Texas struggled early by not taking any shots deep in the first half when they had the wind. FAU’s defense never had to respect the deep pass, and so all the coverage was able to play down close to the line of scrimmage. One would expect this would have something to do not wanting to throw into the teeth of a gusty 20 mile per hour wind, but there were no passes longer than 20 yards even with the wind. My best guess is that they were trying to play it safe and keep the QB upright.

DENTON, TX – The Owls came to Texas looking for their first victory of the 2011 season. What they got instead was another loss, the 5th in row, bowing down 31-17 to North Texas.

Needing a win to spark not only team morale but fan interest heading into FAU’s new on-campus stadium, the offense failed to show up for the first three quarters.

After showing significant improvement in the previous two weeks against Auburn and Louisiana-Lafayette the offense again went into its shell. Three quarters into the game the offense had three first downs and were responsible for three of the Owl’s four turnovers which led to 28 UNT points.

FAU actually outgained UNT after three quarters (210-185) but the scoreboard read something very different: UNT 31 FAU 3.

The defense played well after allowing ULL to gain 459 yards last week but this week it was the offense that was inept. The Owls started the game with four possessions in the first quarter which all resulted in punts and only had 19 yards the entire quarter.
