The Fake Lonnie Finch
After the FIU debacle to open the season, Coach McCarney said, "No excuses from anyone."

And, so we've held him to that...many of us have. Injuries. Lack of depth. Youth. Any of these excuses could have been used this year at any given time for North Texas.

We will look back at this win and say, though, here was a North Texas team who had every reason to pack it in, quit, and use those excuses to finish out the season with a wimper, and start flying the "next season/rebuilding" banner.

But, you know what...they didn't!

The coaches didn't. The players didn't. And, now, we the fans, can't. If you've got season tickets, you've really got no excuse, outside of family emergency, not to go support these guys against WKU and Middle Tennessee.

Four wins. Many people around the country will look at our lack of depth, youth, and injuries, and say Dan McCarney is working a miracle just to get to four. But, that's not true. Remember, this is the guy who after being blown out said, "No excuses." He's just keeping his promise to us.

Damn right, no excuses. And, that attitude seems to have finally caught on with this team. They're now seeing the ball, being the ball, Danny. Let's go out and support them next Saturday with our friends, neighbors, enemies, and strangers. Let's get them into Apogee and give the team a "No Excuses" attitude from the bleachers.

Troy’s defense continued to hemorrhage points Saturday as the Trojans fell in their fifth consecutive game, 38-33, to North Texas.

North Texas quarterback Derek Thompson completed 31 of 38 passes for 331 yards and connected for two touchdowns. Running back James Hamilton, who replaced injured starter Lance Dunbar, rushed for 110 yards on 19 carries.

“They are a possession, ball control type team that throws just enough to keep you loose,” Troy head coach Larry Blakeney said. “They aren’t the first ones to give us trouble defensively.”

Quarterback Corey Robinson and the Trojan offense showed improved play but not the place it matters most … the scoreboard.

“Offensively, we made some strides,” Robinson said. “But we lost so it doesn’t even really matter until we win.”

Winning is something Troy (2-7, 1-4) has not done recently.

In front of a homecoming crowd of 17,103, the defending Sun Belt champions assured themselves of a losing record and will not be eligible to participate in a bowl game for the first time since 2005. The Trojans have lost back-to-back home games for just the second time under head coach Larry Blakeney.

Trojans Woes Continue

By Harry, in GoMeanGreen.com,

TROY – No Lance Dunbar for most of the game? No problem for North Texas.

No ability to hold on to the ball or stop the other team? Big problems for Troy.

The Trojans fell to North Texas 38-33 Saturday, marking the team’s fifth straight loss and officially guaranteeing that the season will end without a bowl game. Troy is now 2-7, 1-4 in Sun Belt play.

“It’s just a season-long nightmare so far,” quarterback Corey Robinson said. “It just seems like we can’t find a way to get it done, throughout the whole game. I guess we’re just going to have to keep searching for it and try to wake up.”

Troy gave up 503 yards, but the game turned after a deep touchdown pass by North Texas and then a Trojan offensive fumble. Derek Thompson hit Chris Bynes with a 46-yard touchdown pass to give UNT a 31-27 lead with 13:24 left.

On Troy’s next possession, Robinson was hit from behind and fumbled. UNT recovered at the Troy 6, and James Hamilton, who ran for 105 yards and two scores as Dunbar left with a knee injury, scored on the first play to give UNT a 38-27 lead. Dunbar, a Sun Belt Player of the Year candidate, ran for just 38 yards and had to leave the game twice after injuring the right knee.

Troy, Ala. – Troy (2-7, 1-4) suffered three turnovers in it's 38-33 loss to North Texas (4-6, 3-3) on Saturday. The Mean Green managed to capitalize on all three turnovers on their way to victory over the Trojans in Troy's 2011 homecoming game.

Troy's defense would hold North Texas to a minimal gain on their opening drive, the Trojans returned possession to the Mean Green on a fumble on their opening drive. North Texas turned the Trojan error into points on the ensuing drive with a 15 yard touchdown run by quarterback Derek Thompson.

The Trojans quickly answered back on their next offensive series, as Troy capped of a 63-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown rush by quarterback Corey Robinson. The scoring rush would be his first rushing touchdown of his career.

On the following Mean Green drive, North Texas drove 68 yards down the field with the help of a 40-yard completion from Thompson to wide receiver Chris Bynes. However, the Trojan defense would stand tall inside it's own 10-yard line and would force North Texas to settle for a 21-yard field goal giving them a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, after a tough defensive battle, North Texas would get on the board once again in the form of a 52-yard rushing touchdown by Mean Green running back James Hamilton.
