Fortunately for Etheridge, his failure to kneel down as time expired in regulation — leading to an opposing player stripping him of the ball and running it back for a touchdown — will not be the last memory he has of playing football.
Etheridge regrouped that night and led Winter Springs in a loss to Hagerty in a tiebreaker to determine the Class 5A, District 3 runner-up. Then the season finale against Lake Mary came four days later.
And now he is preparing to convert full time to wide receiver and be a preferred walk-on at North Texas, coached by former Florida assistant Dan McCarney.
