By Terry Lefton, Editor-at-Large

Published August 11, 2011

The Univ. of North Texas will announce tomorrow that campus networking firm Apogee is the naming-rights partner for the school's new $79M football stadium, in a 20-year deal that averages around $1M a year. Austin-based Apogee has been a supplier to UNT since '08...

If you want to actually meet lots of the crazy fans you should really make a point of coming to the flag football and basketball games. mrsgreengoblin loves having other girl players so she isn't the only one and ArmyofMom refuses to play any of our reindeer games.

I went to the GMG Bowl a couple months ago! And I'm an avid basketball fan as well... went to most games last season and Hot Springs! I'm sure I'll eventually learn my way around here...

I love all the speculation but lets remember our speculating over the new coach. In that case, we had a lot better handle on things than this one and still no one got it right. Lets just wait for tomorrow and continue talking about the jerseys.

And again, Eppy was right.

Since I'm unfamiliar with gay asian brothels, I'll just take your word for it.

What can I say, I'm a huge David Carridine fan.

I had it my Freshman year in Clark. There were different levels of service you could buy. I purchased the premium and my internet was very fast.

This money is not for AD operations am I correct? It goes 100% to the stadium... at least, it should. The student fee can only pay for 1/2 of the stadium.

Don't look for the end of 'body bag' games, coaching raises, and a brand new baseball stadium next month. This money should be allocated 100% to the stadium with the donor's name on it.

It doesn't have to. The athletic department sold naming rights to the stadium, but that does not legally bind them to use it to pay the mortgage. I'm sure the bean counters will work it all out.

I don't know. I'm not quite sure if the shade of green is right and it doesn't seem to quite match my shoes.

But seriously, even with the time value of money taken into consideration, this is a great deal for UNT. It's a million bucks a year that wasn't there yesterday. That anyone could find fault with that is pretty befuddling to me. Wait. All things considered, it really isn't.

We go out and land the 2nd best naming rights deal in the country?!?! Better than Texas Tech?! We've officially got bragging rights over a Big 12 school!

Is the "sleeping giant" finally waking up??

Plus the Mean Green are 3-1 the past four trips to Jones(Fouts West) Stadium.

Rick

P.S. We were one last-second fumble away from being 4-0 the last four trips there. "Don't throw it to stone hands!!!!!".

What a wild stretch in our history. We just had their number!

Q: Was that all under Dickey, or did those (almost) 4 wins start before his tenure?

Can these types of good things come in twenties?

I know Matt Simon had at least one of those.

My only small complaint is that I wish they would have kept "Mean Green" in the official stadium name somehow, but Apogee Stadium really doesn't sound bad at all.

Isn't there going to be a meaningful announcement at the Houston game?

1. Naming Rights deal with Apogee

2. Voertman's $8 million dollar donation

3. Hiring of Bill Lively (will prove to be on the same level as time goes on)

4. August 15th announcement.

5. Hiring of Lane Rawlins as President of UNT. Look at what has happened since he arrived.

I would say if we could add one more to this list, we would have two sets of "three's."

APOGEE is a great name for the stadium. It sounds like what you get when you mix the APATHY many alumni have for the university with the APOLOGY they owe. With all the fantastic changes on campus, I look forward to welcoming many of our departed bretheren back to the green side.

Started with Corky Nelson in '88 when we were 1-AA.

Why does it need to be recognizable? Maybe the whole reason for this agreement with us is so they become more recognizable. Besides, would you rather change names with some of the "more recognizable" companies on the list posted...like taco bell? I actually do think it rolls off the tongue and think it could have been much, much worse! I'm happy!

i just wanted it to be Mean Green Stadium. I didn't want to see naming rights sold, that's all.
