DENTON – The University of North Texas will begin selling beer on the concourse level of Apogee Stadium for all home

football games this fall, beginning with the home opener against SMU on Sept. 6.

North Texas joins a growing list of schools already selling beer in public areas at athletic events. SMU announced it will

follow last season’s basketball introduction with beer sales at Gerald J. Ford Stadium this football season, and will join

Texas, Texas Tech, UT Arlington, UT-El Paso, UT-San Antonio and Houston as state universities that currently serve beer

at designated athletic events.

“We carefully studied all issues related to making beer available in Apogee Stadium, and from every angle, it makes

sense,” said UNT President Neal Smatresk. “At UNLV, my experience was that selling beer helped to more carefully

regulate alcohol consumption and encouraged more fans to watch the game in the stadium. It also cumulatively improved

revenues and had no negative impact on the overall experience of all fans.”

The athletics department, university administration, the office of risk management and University police were all part

of the collaborative effort to develop a plan to create an environment that will not negatively affect the enjoyment of the

game for any fans. Beer will only be sold in controlled areas of the stadium, away from the designated family fun area

under the north end zone stands.

Here's what Houston offered at Robertson stadium

Some selections you will see offered on draft are Shock Top, Ziegenbock, Houston's own St. Arnold's, and a Cougar special called "Coug Brew," which was almost reddish in tint and I found to be decent. Another plus for the Cougars is that they have stadium vendors walking through the stands selling Budweiser, Bud Light and such in the bottle for the fan who would rather not miss the game. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by what the Cougars had to offer and how it was priced.

From the story on CBS 11

The University applied for and was granted a license to sell alcoholic beverages throughout the facility when it was constructed three years ago.

Wait. What? Seriously? So why the delay? I've heard so many Denton County Sheriff this, TABC that, against state law here, etc. So what it really boiled down to for three years was, "Because think of the children?"

Ouch.

Seriously, call OSDH, have them set up a special stand, and the deal would be golden

Beer snobs are so cosmopolitan. I guess someone had to complain though. After a 6 pack or two it all tastes the same. Uber stock just went up too.

Beer snobs think they know about beer but little do they realize that the hops and barely these craft beers use are actually leftovers that MillerCoors and Bud sells to them.

Hopefully this means I can carry a beer out of the club now.

Only if it's in a brown paper bag.

Can someone give elPresidente a +1? I just gave him a -1 on accident. There is truth in what he is saying BTW.

I have it on good authority that the student/young alumni side will have Stones, High Life, and Natty Light. The alumni side will have Shiner, the usuals, Michelob Ultra and Metamucil.

Ha Ha, love the negative vote on the Talon comment. Are they even still around other than the cannon crew?

Stuff is solid. Enjoyed their Blood & Honey poolside, last weekend. Interesting beer.

Also, on the other end of the spectrum, really enjoyed Lakewood's "Temptress". Outstanding milk stout. Stout, too, at 9% ABV.

I am sure that if you and Emeril buy the same ingredients at the store his dish is going to taste better.
