North Texas was right back in a familiar situation on Saturday night.
Starting quarterback Derek Thompson was on the sideline with a game-ending injury, a backup was in the game and the Mean Green’s offense was struggling.
That’s just what happened last year in a loss to Army and a month ago in a loss to Tulsa.
This time it was a concussion that knocked out Thompson on UNT’s second play from scrimmage, and Andrew McNulty was forced to take over in a 37-14 loss to Arkansas State at ASU Stadium.
“Derek has been playing really well and he went out really early,” UNT head coach Dan McCarney said. “I thought Andrew McNulty did some really positive things. You can see the competitor that he is and the toughness he has. It was good to see him score a couple of touchdowns in the second half.”
