I think we had president Rawlins at ours. He talked for like 15 minutes at best. Yay December commencements!

I graduated in December of '95. I have no idea who spoke but it didn't take long.

Heck, mine was in August 2001. I seem to recall the speaker was the Dean of the Library Sciences School. He was actually rather funny and kept it short.

In May of 2008 we had the new head of the Alumni Association speak at ours. He slipped up and called the school UT at one point, then said "Oh come on I just missed a consonant!" after he was booed...

That story is going to be tough to beat.

Awesome! I didn't think I'd actually be looking forward to having to sit through that ceremony. Touche' UNT.

UNT can do a big commencement speaker now due to the commencement changes. Everyone now graduates at the same time out at Apogee on Saturday night. This hopefully will be the first of many big speakers in the future.

Great to hear and as it should be! Kudos to Dr. S for making more positive changes.

We used to have a single commencement speaker and then separate "walk across the stage" ceremonies. When I graduated in 1987 the speaker was H.Ross Perot.

Not sure when we went completely decentralized. 90's or early 2000's?

That's awesome... I had a spare local newsman with UNT ties.

I think I had the same. Wasn't it Brendan Higgins from Channel 5?

Higgins said, ‘You f***ing pieces of s***’ and ‘I’m going to beat you until you’re dead.

"Higgins hit the elevator with his head and then pretended to pass out and slumped to the floor. I could tell that Higgins had not actually passed out because he was giggling.”

"Higgins also threatened Aspen Ambulance paramedics and attempted to bite one who was attempting to bandage a cut on his nose"

I take calling this guy a spare back.

On my display shelf in my loft I have the 3 Deloreans from Back to the Future. The other side is my collection of mini helmets. Yes, I am a nerd.

Politics aside that is probably a good thing for UNT to have him. Is this his first official collegiate address?
