So, how does the free agent signing work out for Brelan and Zac financially? Isn't there a standard rate paid by the NFL to free agents just for signing?

Looks like they sign for league minimum, and that the signing bonuses are really small, like in the $2,500 range. This from a blog on the Cowboys:

Once a rookie free agent signs a contract, he usually receives a small bonus. These bonuses are mostly in the $3,000 to $5,000 range, but if a particular free agent is heavily sought after by a number of NFL teams, that bonus may go up as far as $20,000. Per the new CBA, only a maximum of about $75,000 per team may be paid to undrafted rookies as signing bonus or amounts treated as signing bonus. That figure will increase or decrease each year in line with the percentage change of the total Rookie Compensation Pool.

Signing bonuses, as the name implies, are paid out immediately after the contract is signed. After that, the UDFAs have to make do with "per diem expenses".

If they make the team I believe the league minimum is 500k. I am sure most UDFA get that until they prove themselves on the field. Granted they both make the 53 man roster.

Awesome! Glad to see him sign with SD. Think he has a pretty good chance to stick around, although it will definitely be an uphill battle. If anyone is up for the battle, it's him.

Currently the Chargers have 12 WRs on their roster, including 1 drafted in the 7th round (Tevin Reese - Baylor), and 4 undrafted free agents.

You have Keenan Allen, Malcolm Floyd, Vincent Brown and Eddie Royal as the incumbents. Seyi Ajirotutu just signed a 1-yr deal in March, after leading the Bolts in special team tackles last year. Hopefully Brelan has a great camp and can beat out the others for the 5th or 6th roster spot, taking over KR/PR duties from Royal.

as a huge Charger fan, I can tell you he has to make it as a kick returner. Royal is solid in punt returns but he does get hurt alot. Our kick return game was one of the worst in the NFL last year. It was so bad that Ronnie Brown was returning kicks late in the year.....he runs about a 4.7 40....not good.

I hope that ST weakness for SD helps dramatically improve Brelan's chnaces of landing a gig there.
