IN OTHER ACTION

The University of North Texas Board of Regents also took the following action in Thursday’s meeting:

* approved $1 million for the Interstate 35E pedestrian overpass bridge

* authorized selection of an architect for the University Union expansion

* adopted the UNT Discovery Park master plan

* increased the $10 million budget for the science research building renovation by $2 million

That's a hefty pricetag for a walkway. Any naming ideas for it?

Do we know exactly where it will be? Will it be closer to the North Texas Blvd bridge or closer to the stadium?

I'm hoping that Luke's Locker will be the sponsor, and it will be called the:

The plans show it between Fouts and the Murchison and the other side is near the Alumni Pavillion.

I'm actually surprised it's only gonna be a million bucks.

Once completed, parking for non mean green club members becomes a non-issue.

Good or bad?

Good to see this moving forward. The price tag does seem high, but with all the "impact studies", right of way testing, safety issues, etc., etc. that are required for such things these days it adds up fast. Who knows it will probably have to be completely covered to keep the one in a million idiot from jumping or falling off...makes it more expensive than it would otherwise have to be...or they will have to cover it to keep some idiot from getting on it and throwing rocks at the passing cars beneath it...these things cost money...too bad, but true. Just glad to see the walkway getting traction and moving forward so it can be in place for the 2012 season...I hope...I hope!

With the walk-way in place, Fouts field might just be the best parking option going.

Sept. 10th is going to be GREAT!

Wonder if it will be wide enough for both pedestrians and a shuttle? I could see a structure like that costing quite a bit. Concrete ain't cheap right now folks.

That bridge should be another great opportunity to market the school. Have a design that looks good and fits in with the Athletic Village. Have "University of North Texas" on it and I'm sure you could find a sponsor to put on it as well. If done right it could be a very cool looking structure.

How about..."down the corridor of years". OR, since it's leading to the football stadium "down the corridor of cheers".

It would be nice if we could do something with it special and unique. We need to find the next big donor to foot the bill for a green moving walkway right up to the complex.

As things are going right now with the Lee Jackson led branding HELL we are currently wading through, I would bet it will simply have UNT all over it.

If Lee Jackson has anything to do with it, he'll name it the UNT-Dallas bridge.

Are we sure the bridge wouldn't just go to Dallas?

A pedestrian bridge from the Murch to the Dallas campus? I hope Lee is working those financial friends he has... Seems like something he might think would be a good idea though.

I'll chip in $5 to get it named the GOMEANGREEN.COM Walkway. Who's with me?

Hell, we're damn lucky Lee Jackson didn't make them build the stadium in Dallas! But then the Denia folks wouldnt have anything to bitch about.
