Most people on here know that I like doing research and plugging the numbers into spreadsheets to come up with some interesting statistics. I decided to turn my attention towards UTSA football. Below is a list I compiled of wins that UTSA has logged against FBS programs with a winning record:

  • Tulane

Here's a graph I made:

Wait.

Taco Bueno, El Chico, and Rosas? No wonder you're not finding good Mexican food. You guys don't have those chains down there? I thought Taco Bueno was everywhere in Texas, like Cabana.

Taco Bueno.... lol

What about El Guapos?

You people don't know good Mexican food. Here is a hint: if there are no day laborers eating there, it's not a good Mexican food place.

The best Mexican food place in Denton is La Sabrocita.

Next question.

So, you basically know nothing about college football.

Not surprising, since you never get a chance to actually watch it.

I know enough to know that rankings are bull squat... and even recruting "stars" are bull squat too.

The true measure of any player is what he can produce on the field, and how he can lead on AND off the field.

Yes, where can you find a college football team with a Mexican name?

I've been looking all over...

New Mexico Lobos

Good answer. New Mexico State decided not to play football this year.

Mexican food in Texas: Houston & San Antonio >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Everywhere else. El Guapos is about the only respectable Tex-Mex joint in this town. Every time I go to Houston, I stop at Los Cucos in Katy. Amazing Mexican food on every corner in Houston & SA.

I had some decent quesadillas at Chilis down in San Antonio once. I haven't had much luck otherwise.

I thought we had a rule against obvious and inflammatory flaming?

IMHO: That place is terrible. SOURCE: My abuelita makes the best Mexican food in the world.

There's quite a few I've been too and loads of them that are probably great but haven't been too yet. But some of them that immediately come to mind are:

Mia's - Dallas

Joe T Garcias - Fort Worth........for tourist.

I highly recommend the other restaurant that Joe T's owns....."Esperanzas" It's right there on north main where you turn to get to Joe T's. In addition to their excellent food, they have a mexican bakery there. So you can get some baked goods to take home. Most of the customers at Esperanzas are hispanic.

El Ranchito - Dallas..don't know

Primo's - Dallas..don't know

Desperados - Dallas...don't know

Uncle Julios - Throughout DFW I think.....excellent local chain.

La Hacienda - Throughout DFW....Meh

Herrera's - Dallas (I like it but it seems hit or miss with a lot of folks

Ojeda's - small place located in Plano near where I live. Not many know about it but food is good and they have cheap alcohol. Their salsa is good but spicy as hell.

I'm sure I'm missing some but this would be a good start.

My newest Mexican food find is "Enchilada Ole", at 901 North Sylvaniain Fort Worth

http://enchiladasole.com/

Their food is great.....especially the brisket enchilada.

Another good local chain is El Paseo on Jacksboro Hwy in Fort Worth....just south of loop 820.

If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, nothing beats Olive Garden. When you're there, you're familia!

I swore off Mexican food in San Antonio after the place highly regarded by the locals I was with served me Pollo con Queso that consisted of an obviously frozen chicken breast cooked and topped with a Kraft single. This was the third place in town I'd tried.

I hate your list except for like 2, but your Ojeda's drop means we're practically neighbors. Weird.

It's certainly a starting point list. I'd say those are considered more on the "safer" side when people are looking for Mexican. That's why it sort of depends what one is looking for.

Ah so you're a Plano resident? High five.

Never been there or even heard of it. Need to check it out next time I'm up there.

One place in Denton I am a fan of although haven't eaten there in quite some time is Mi Casita.

El Norte in Plano is underrated. In an old Taco Bueno. Been a few years since I have been there, but while living in Plano it was a regular in the rotation.

There is also an Ojeda's in Lewisville on 121 business on the west side of 35. Hot sauce will sneak up on you if you haven't had it before.

Edit:

I am talking Tex-Mex, not Mexican food. There is a difference.

I'm not sure if it's the same one but there used be a Los Cucos in Plano in a very very prime location for a couple years but that thing closed down. At there once and from what I remember it was pretty good albeit more on the "good generic" Tex/Mex.

I've seen El Norte for many many many years but have never eaten there. I need to make a trip there one of these days.

I grew up in El Paso. That being said, there is no good Mexican food in the Metroplex. Tex Mex yes. Mexican food no.

Listen to this man. He knows of what he speaks. We go there nearly every weekend. The Carrollton location is HUGE and has BBQ chicken that'll blow your socks off.

You might try Taqueria la Esperanza in north Lewisville.
